How is HTC going to control the mass download situation?
Remember what happened when v1.09 came out? I got mine at blazing speed of about .371834 B/s! ;)
Will there be any new changes to the update system or webpage download? What are the current plans? Maybe a few dedicated pilots can be given 1.10 a few hours prior to release so they can host it on a few mirrors to help control the huge load. Any other suggestions/comments?

I'm sure a bunch of us will put up mirrors for our squads like we did during the last release.

I had no problem actually. DL'ed the update in less than 1.5 minutes.

Hope I can download it on my 56k in under 5 hours....:)

You could always keep some perspective on this, remember its just a game, and download it the next day or two latter.
Hans.

It's NEVER just a game.
What about fileplanet for the patch? i know that many, including myself, can't stand it, but it is fairly reliable...

Wait a day or two??? You must be joking! If I don't get my daily 'fix' of AH, I'll be climbing the walls! :p

heck this was with a road runner cable connection! it was insane.
ammo when did you attempt the download? i was online at the time when HT/pyro/whoever announced it was ready for download via hitechcreations.com. I alt-f4'd and raced to the DL page, got a solid rate (about 90 kb/s) then the puter froze. 2nd attempt no more than 5 minutes later and i had a solid connect of about 2.3 kb/s. Things cleared up after a few hours...but it still felt bogged for quite a while.

My puter froze 10x at least trying to DL 1.09.... and im on roadrunner too (cable) I'd love to host a mirror for anyone but even though I'm halfway through my MCSE certification and know tons about networks and corporate systems i know very little about web pages. how do you host a mirror? do you need your own web server? i have a free website but im not gonna pay for web space... i have no need for it. actually noone in my squad knows how to do this. so if another squad is going to host a mirror and is willing to let us know where to go we'd really appreciate it.

Here's a suggestion:
Have HTC give people that have mirrors the file and have them set it up on their ends.
When released, Add a link to the mirrors IN THE ANNOUNCEMENT FORUMS. This will guarantee that most of us will use the mirrors instead of the HTC server.
Fileplanet is also a great idea.
This way we can avoid the "ohshit its out" and everyone downloading the thing and those that have the mirrors will also be stuck with the extremely slow downloads before they can put it up in their mirrors.
You cannot prepare for the unknown, but you can prepare to be surprised!

Maybe HTC should use Fileplanet or some other site to help download their patches?
I had a cow last time we had a patch problem d/l ! I was like a crackhead looking for a second fix!

Time is not a matter...just wish I wouldn't have to babysit the auto-updater making sure its not back at the first menu. :( ;)
-
hint: do not use autoupdater
