Title: Cannot read the MAP
Post by: Kanth on May 27, 2002, 05:15:49 AM
I have serious problems reading the map.

if I zoom in, it doesn't unclutter. The whole cluttered map gets blown up and pixelated looking and stays cluttered. The colors on the map don't even contrast, it's either red or it's green for everything.

It's a problem every time I fly.

If you look at mapquest for example, this doesn't happen.

You zoom in and one towns name doesn't cover another town up in big pixelated letters.

It's really hard to coordinate anything when I can't find the bases.

I can't even read the coordinates on the map it's really screwed up.

try using page up and down to zoom the map or right click on your mouse.

Hear hear! I agree.  Perhaps HTC can work on designing a more legible map.  That would be a great help.

This is an open offer to HTC for doing the same kind of map treatment that I did in Sundog's recent Battle of Britain terrain. Check it out in the CT or offline. The clipboard map has gotten alot of positive feedback. It really isn't difficult or time consuming to do, either.

Wotan, I can manipulate the map fine, it's reading it I have an issue with.

It's cluttered and unreadable.

If when it zoomed, things would spread out so there was some space between things I could read it. But right now every thing just gets bigger and stays close together.

You've seen it.

Tell me it's not a test of some sort ;)

If you right click on the clip board + and - buttons, every thing will spread out to give you a clearer picture.  From what you describe, it sounds to me like you are left clicking on the + and - buttons on the clip board which only makes the clip board bigger.

Is there any reason this is under right click instead of left?

I don't think alot of people will think to 'right click on a button'.

Thanks for the help, I'll try the right click when I get home.

Title: Sucky map
Post by: Vomit Man on June 02, 2002, 06:56:09 AM
I must agree! this game has the most pants map for any flight sim, it sucks so much it makes me wanna puke

the clipboard is also dumb as is the camera tracking round control towers when u change bases, it just takes too long and is frustrating.

but it should be obvious even to the most rabid AH bellybutton kissers that the map blows, its unreadable IT SUCKS :P

I attached a screen shot showing what you can do to the map.  I think the map is quite readable at the normal clipboard size, but you can make it larger by pressing the + button in the lower right corner.  You can zoom the map in and out with the insert delete keys on the keyboard.  Another nice feature is if you press the shift buttion and left click on the map, you can pan the map.

I have a 19 inch monitor and have the game set for 1025x768 and 32 bit.  Maybe if you are running lower resolutions and smaller screen size it may be harder to read.

Note, this is like like showing how good a new TV looks in a TV commercial.  It's also a compressed JPG file, so some of the detail is lost.  I hope it helps explain what the others are trying to say.
