Post by: SKurj on May 27, 2002, 02:26:19 PM
Sweet!!!

graphics are amazing as well as the gameplay

be warned though it can be pretty hard in places, unlike the original which was tooo easy.

talking single player.  Not tried multi since the MP test which was BOOORING

hehe, I had to do a Google search to figure out what you were talking about.

Skurj, how would you compare it with the Delta Force series? I really like DF, and the multiplayer was pretty good too.

I was disappointed with the Ghost Recon demo I played. Rogue Spear is good, but you really have to spend a LOT of time at it. Same with OFP. DF is a game that's both fun and not impossibly hard.

I'm always looking for a good FPS.

To me this is just another FPS, nothing more, nothing, less. It does have pretty graphics.
Same concept, One man army

I spent an extremely small amount of time playing any of the delta force games...

SOF2 is based on the Q3 engine, and doesn't do huge outdoor expanses well.  Thats about the only comparison i can really make..

It is more of a one man army game.

Alot of realistic weapons, not sure how realistically their effects are modelled though.

I wish more FPS games would hurry up and get RID of the damn crosshair!! and give me real sights +)

I prefer it to RtCW, though I rate MOHAA a step above.(single player) based on my perception of realism and entertainment value..

Ohh one thing i've not seen before (or tried yet) SOF2 has a random mission generator... soon as i complete single i will see what happens with this feature..

I can't believe they want $50 for what boils down to a Q3 mod...

For all you wondering about the game, there is a demo of the single player out... it's big, and you will probably want to turn down the head-sway so you don't puke, but it's fun for a few minutes...

SOF2, RtCW, MoH:AA... lol, now I know how my friends feel whenever I start spewing DoD acronyms.

Thanks for the tip, I'll d/l the demo. :)

BTW... Unreal: now that's FUN.

SoF is the only game where damage has been tried to model realistically.. You see which part of the body you hit and it effects them accordingly.

A shotgun blows a leg off, arm off etc.. A rifle shot to the head blows the brains off etc.

I've played the multiplayer quite a lot and its a good and free break from AH.

That's not true at all- the only thing SOF did was add in a toejamload of gore to go with the locational damage.

ofp has a realistic damage model.

head shots give instant kills, leg shots they go prone, some chest shots kill instantly some you need another hit.

one thing that ive never seen though is realistic deteriation of condition, i've never seen a shooter game where they survive the shot initially then die over a period of time without more shots

I had a memory of punks limping after you hit them to the leg etc. in SoF, maybe I remember wrong.

Anyway, more gore = better. As long as it's not Al.

oh yeah they limp, when ya shoot a weapon out of their hands they either get out another, or they back away from their gun and return to it shortly, pick it up and start shootin back.

alotta gore yes (highly adjustable)

I found the headbob in MOH made me feel ill... or at least thats what I thought at first...  turning down detail to increase framerate solved the problem. I had to do the same in SOF2

Not sure how to turn headbob down in sof2...

q3 mods released this year...

MOHAA
Jedi Knight 2
SOF2

q3 mods released last year..

that star trek FPS
RtCW

q3 mods coming...

Team Fortress 2
half life 2

and there are likely more q3 mods for sale i've missed +)

Very few original engined games appearing of late...

look how long they kept the quake 1 engine going... (Half Life)

I don't care who does the engine... one thing i wish they would add is an environment that can be interacted with more..

I had been watching the development of HALO for the past few years in great anticipation. Developed by Bungie (Marathon for the Mac), it promised to be the FPS to end all. You could get into vehicles and spacecraft and control them, plus a killer FPS with big open outdoors and complex indoor environments.

It finally came out for the X-Box only... I hope they get around to making it PC-compatible.

In the demo, I like to take the knife and cut the corpses faces, it looks very gruesome.

riiiiiigghhtttt....

Actaully I thought SOF2 Demo/SOF was a  pretty stupid game...at least in the run and shoot genre , DOD has something extra that seemed to fail in SOF - gameplay. I thought SOF only real selling point was it's reliance of gore to make it different to the slew of extra games coming out.
I've always prefered OpFlashpoint as a single player fps, and DOD in multi.

Well, DoD offers better MULTIPLAYER gameplay than probably all FPS games out there at the moment...

But!! i probably won't bother with MP much, I have AH fer that.

Having said that +)  the AI is pretty good in SOF2 to a point.  They use cover, they appear to work together to encircle you.  They hear ya coming alot of the time and will either lie in wait or if they have a real good idea where you are u'll find grenades a raining down.

IMO one of the best single player fps
MP = same old same old i think..

Really?  STILL?  I gave up hope on TF2 about..oh, a year and a half ago lol  (If I remember correctly the origional est release date for TF2 was late 2000.. not sure on that).

Considering all the origional hype about TF2, IF they manage to pump it out, it "could" be the end-all-be-all of FPS's.

True Combat Q3 (http://www.truecombat.com) has realistic sights and NO CROSSHAIR. A blast of a mod, pity it's development seems halted atm.
