Title: Left or Right...
Post by: SKurj on May 27, 2002, 02:45:31 PM
Perhaps this belongs in aircraft and vehicles but anyways....

of the single engined fighters in AH, which actually turn better one way than the other?

I have never really noticed...

Can anyone give me a rough breakdown?
Not based on reality please +) but AH

You talking about rolling rate?

I think Skurj is talking about the tendency for the plane to roll, which affects the easy of turning especially at low speeds.  Like for the C.205, I find it easier to turn to the left because, the torque from the engine makes the plane snap and tilt to the left.  I believe this is true for most planes like the N1K2, Spits, La5, Ki-61,... actually I haven't found a plane that turns better to the right... yet!

190's and 109s roll worse to the right. Very handy when roping the mothers hehehe.

ok ok sorry could have been clearer...

Which aircraft have
 A) higher turn rate one way than the other
 B) smaller turn radius one way than the other

+) lol i dunno if anyone has any data on this but if your fav ride goes better left than right (or vice versa) lemme know please +)

This is a torque issue, some planes like the Tiffie, the props rotate opposite of most other aircraft. So it rolls better with the rotation of the prop. The 38's twin props rotate opposite of each other and cancel out torque effect. You can tell on the runway which way the plane will roll best by opening the throttle full and seeing which way it trys to run off the strip. That will be the direction of the best roll rate.
