Armament:
Six .50 caliber (12.7 mm) Browning M-2 machine guns with 2,400 rounds mounted in the wings. Later models could substitute two 20 mm guns for the two inboard .50 calibers.
how about adding a second weapons loadout to include the 2 inboard 20mm guns...just a little suggestion

The mixed battery Hellcat would make a nice low price perk option. I haven't seen any pictures of 20mm armed Hellcats that weren't also nightfighters, although the various sources I have read imply that 20mms were mounted on some F6F-5s in addition to 5N/Es. Maybe 20mms were only mounted in nightfighters and maybe not. However some proof, like a picture, that some dayfighter -5s carried 20mms would probably go a long way towards convincing HTC to add the aircraft.

i know i can only find a pick of the F6F-5N nightfighter
but this info might help ( Some F6F-5 and F6F-5N Hellcats had 2 x 20 mm cannon plus 4 x 0.5 inch machine-guns) so from my understanding some F6F-5s did have 2 inboard 20mms
i'm not saying we should have it but it might be a nice feature for Hellcat Flyers
(opinions HTC?)

I just recently read about this in "Hellcat, The F6F in WW2" -Tillman.
"Area 8: All F6F-5 with provisions for three .50-Cal. MG or two .50-Cal. MG and one 20 mm in each wing; all late modelmodel F6F-5Ns delivered with mixed battery." Pg 21
I'm guessing the heavy projectiles weren't really needed against the lightly armored Japanese aircraft in favor of a greater rate of fire. But had the Hellcat performed a whole lot more in Europe, things might've been different. (In an MA setting like Aces High, who wouldn't want a 20mm and two 50-Cals in each wing!?) Sounds like the provisions were there for the 20 mm's, just that no one chose to really utilize them in practice.

Get this option and the "perk the La-7" movement will be a mere sideshow. :D

Steven,
Keep in mind that late war Japanese aircraft like the N1K2-J, Ki-67, Ki-84, ect, ect all had armor protection inline with US, RAF, VVS and Luftwaffe aircraft.
Its only the early stuff that was so underbuilt, and even then there are exceptions like the H8K "Emily".

Also remember that F6F's were used as ground support..

No thank you.

I really think the 6 50s are enough on the hellcat. Of course I tend to fly planes with weaker guns before we get to the pac setups in the ct. I am all for an option if it existed though.
ground support f6f.... somebody was watchn john wayne yesterday.....
-
are you saying that the F6F's were not used in grond support ergRTC ?
-
no just thought it was odd that jw was on amc yesterday doing the ground support thing with the f6f, and somebody just happened to mention that in here as well.
-
hehe, ok.
Im in Norway, so I didn't see that yesterday.. Think I have seen it a few years back. :)

20mm on the hellcat?
Hell no.
Don't need 'em, don't want 'em....
