200 Perk Points:
The Me 262 has 1767 kills and has been killed 321 times.
The Me262A has a K/D ratio of 5.5 to 1 and 0.44% of the total kills.
70 Perk Points:
The Tempest has 1015 kills and has been killed 213 times.
The Tempest Mk V has a K/D ratio of 4.77 to 1 and 0.25% of the total kills.
60 Perk Points:
The Spitfire Mk XIV has 691 kills and has been killed 502 times.
The Spitfire Mk XIVc has a K/D ratio of 1.38 to 1 and 0.17% of the total kills.
50 Perk Points:
The F4U-4 has 534 kills and has been killed 262 times.
The F4U-4 Corsair as a K/D ratio of 2.04 to 1 and 0.13% of the total kills.
20 Perk Points:
The Ta 152H has 484 kills and has been killed 314 times.
The Ta152H-1 has a K/D ratio of 1.54 to 1 and 0.12% of the total kills.
10 Perk Points:
The F4U-1C has 5278 kills and has been killed 2577 times.
The F4U-1C Corsair has a K/D ratio of 2.05 to 1 and 1.31% of the total kills.
Based on these stats it seems to me that the perk fighters with prices that represent the actual value of the fighter are the Me262A, Tempest Mk V and F4U-1C Corsair, and even then the Me262A and Tempest Mk V may be a little too expensive.
The Spitfire Mk XIVc, F4U-4 Corsair and Ta152H-1 do not seem to approach the value of their perk prices. They all have significantly lower usage and K/D ratios than the other perk fighters. Even the 10 point F4U-1C Corsair easily outdoes the K/D ratios of these aircraft. I would suggest that the Spitfire Mk XIVc's perk price might be more accurate at 20, the F4U-4 Corsair's perk price more accurate at 15 and the Ta152H-1's perk price more accurate at 10. It seems that whatever performance edge these aircraft have over the free fighters, or the cheaper F4U-1C, is more than mitigated by the icons that single them out as the target of choice for so many.
Thoughts?

Just for fun and comparison, here are the stats of what I consider to be the top end free fighters:
0 Perk Points:
The P-51D has 25600 kills and has been killed 24580 times.
The P-51D Mustang as a K/D ratio of 1.04 to 1 and 6.37% of the total kills.
The La-7 has 22525 kills and has been killed 17812 times.
The La-7 has a K/D ratio of 1.26 to 1 and 5.6% of the total kills.
The Typhoon IB has 13934 kills and has been killed 11326 times.
The Typhoon Mk Ib has a K/D ratio of 1.23 to 1 and 3.47% of the total kills.
The Bf 109G-10 has 10208 kills and has been killed 9773 times.
The Bf109G-10 has a K/D ratio of 1.04 to 1 and 2.54% of the total kills.
The Fw 190D-9 has 9326 kills and has been killed 7098 times.
The Fw190D-9 has a K/D ratio of 1.31 to 1 and 2.32% of the total kills.

Me 262 - 150-200 perks
Tempest - 50-70
Spitfire Mk XIV - 20
F4U-4 - 15
F4U-1C - 10
Ta-152 - free or 5 max
is my opinion.
The Spitfire XIV would have a better K/D if people wouldn't take it down low and start turning hard with it. I've seen three XIVs in my time playing. One was flown well, kept fast and tore up everything in the area. I stayed low and out of it's way in my Spit I. The second one tangled with me in a Spit I, and if it wasn't for an La-7 and Rude's P-51D coming in, I think he woulda goofed up and let me get him. (let's say I was droolin' even with the La-7. It was Rude's P-51 that got me to where the Spit XIV could hispano me.) The 3rd one came in low over the hills in that island in the southwest of the Mindanao terrain. I was only at about 5000 ft, but I dove down, caught and killed him in about 7-10 seconds in a Spitfire V. Point is flown right, this is a 20 point perk ride easy.
I've never even seen a F4U-4... *shrugs*
Me262 and Tempest stats speak for themselves. I dunno, maybe if people flew the Spit XIV (and F4U-4) like they do the Tempest, the K/D's would be about the same.
Ta-152 K/D isn't that much better than the free D-9. I say unperk it for a tour or two and see what happens.

Here's what I think:
262= 100 perks
Ta152= 12 perks
F4U-C = 4 perks
Tempest = 10 perks
F4U-4 = 10 perks
Arado = 40 perks
Spit14 = 10 perks
ADD:
La7 - 2 perks
P51D - 2 perks
190D9 - 2 perks
109G10 - 2 perks
AND Icons should not reflect their perk status if they are visually similar to other models.
F4U's should read F4U , LA5&7 = Lav , Spits= Spit , Tempest = Typh, Ta152 = 190
After all, this is already done for the various, VASTLY different performing 109's and 190's. The biggest reason perk planes arent flown that much is because the icon SCREAMS "PIŅATA!!" and everyone and everything goes to get a shot at it.
Especially if the next version will have a lot of early war rides. The late war models should be controlled with cheap perk costs imo.

Lower the perk points for the planes and reset everyones perks at the first of the month.

I wouldn't touch the C-Hogs perk value, it seems to have a nice balance. I do agree some of the other planes seem awefully expensive on perk points for what they offer.
The problem is, in their element many of these perk planes really are superior but often they aren't flown there. The SpitXIV is a perfect example, at 12K it is a rocketship, but at sealevel it's a dog. I've flown it a couple of times and know my engagement ceiling/floor and have done pretty well. If you get out of the sweet-spot though it becomes really average, or worse. too many people just expect it to be an La7/Spit cross at all altitudes but at sea level it's more like a normal SpitIX.

good assesment Karnak.

The reason the c-hog does so well is the gangbang tags. If you were to remove them, without touching perk costs, the kill ratios would probably fall into place about where they should be.
Personally, it's not the cost that stops me from flying them, I'm not about to paint a giant "KILL ME" sign on me to fly a plane thats a bit better than the free planes.
-
I think the perk values are pretty good the way they are, with the exception of the -4.
200 for the 262 is great because it keeps it rare in the arena. I hate seeing one of those damn things.
The Tempest is a monster and should stay a fairly high perk.
If flown correctly the Spit is a deadly plane, but people like to turn fight too much with it and the K/D ratio shows it.
I love the -4 but it doesn't seem all that outstanding for 50 perks.
20 perks for the TA 152H is about right to keep it rare in the arena. It's K/D ratio is bad because it was meant to kill buffs and people use it for that most of the time. It's hard to get a good K/D ratio against buffs.
The -C was perked for balance reasons and 10 perks seems to have done the job well. The K/D ratio is lower because it is used in the ground attack role mostly and that is an inherently dangerous occupation :)
-
Frost,
I agree with you about the F4U-4, but I think your assesments of the Spit XIV and Ta152H-1 are a bit flawed.
Yes, a well flown Spit XIV is very, very deadly. Too bad they're too expensive to learn how to use. Its usage numbers, even augmented by those who accidently take it for base defense in place of a free Spit, are very low.
The Ta152H-1 may be used to kill bombers, but I beg to differ about the ease of getting a good K/D ratio against bombers. My K/D ratio against bombers is much higher than 1.5 to one and I'm not very good, nor am I motivated to keep the perks on a perk plane as I attained that in free planes. The Ta152H-1's K/D ratio and low usage numbers indicate to me that it is not worth the asking price.

Just as a side note to the discussion (which has been remarkably civil :) ):
Anyone wanting to practice the high perk planes without wiping out all their MA points should keep an eye on the CT setup.
Currently 262's & temp's are running at 2 points apiece & spit 14's & 152's are free. Just a suggestion, in case anybody didn't know. CT tends to have a bit of an advertising problem (I still see people pop in there all the time asking if they have to register for combat theater, sigh).

Here's my slant on this perk price thing...
Me262.........200 Perks
Tempest.......70 Perks
Spit14..........60 Perks
F4u4.............50 Perks
Ta152...........20 Perks
F4U-C...........10 Perks
This price scheme only applies if the perk tags are removed.
-
mine:
262 - 150 pts
Tempest - 50 pts
SpitXIV - 20 pts
F4U-4 - 50 pts
Ta152 - 20 pts
Ar234 - 40 pts
maybe:
P-51D - 5 pts
La-7 - 7 pts
Nik - 7 pts
Spit IX - 1-5 pts
Fw190D-9 - 5 pts

Remove the gangbang tags, and perk prices are okay.
la7, 5 perks (Could be re-iconed as la5...)
n1k2, 3 perks
spit9, 3 perks
p-51d, 3 perks
109g-10, 2 perks
I'm sure I could think of more... :D
if it were up to me, I'd take every 1944 or later plane, and perk em, just a couple of perks, 1-3, enough that as long as you were carefull you could earn the perks back flying it, but also enough to make it more difficult to fly them on constant suicide missions.

hehe strange... On constatn suicide missions I fly the C.202 but so far those suicide missions always somehow changed into homicide missions coz this tour I didn't lose a single 202... eee oh well...

I've only tried the 202 a couple of times in the MA. I noticed though, that the 202 tag almost always makes people look the other way and ignore you... Fun plane for that reason :D
The biggest problem IMO with the stats, and that shows something is wrong is that the kill ratio on the f4u4 and the f4u1c is virtually identical. Wether to fix this by reducing the perks on the f4u4, or removing the gangbang tags, I don't know. Am I the only one who sees whats wrong?
-
Agree with Karnak and Nifty.
Ta152 might even be free, most people would stay in the Dora or A5 anyway.
-
IF the 152 becomse free I would fly it a little more regularly but not much. I still love the Dora. And it might not hit as hard as 152 it still gets me home with blistering deck speed. If you drop the perks of the 152 you migth see mroe usage out of it but not much more. I think 10 is a fair asking price and free would be even better. Who the hell fights at 30k anyway?
-
If they make 152 free (which I honestly doubt) I would fly it a lot lot more... Right now I fly it on par with Tempest but for 'Higher' alt jobs the Ta-152 is the choice...
Although once I met some "dmd" guy in his 152 at 30k... I was very pissed because I was hunting a HQ raider and the dot was not a buff but a 152  I was in G10 with 30mm and gondies.... So I killed him :D
But now someone tell me why did I write the paragraph above? Oh well since I already did it I will leave it there... ;)
-
Yeah Mad, I wonder why you wrote it too :D
YOU JUST WANTED TO BRAG!!! :D

Have a one-week tour where all planes are free. Then for the next tour assign each plane a perk cost proportional to it's % of total kills achieved. All planes that kill less than 5% would be free. Every tour assign perk costs according to last tour's stats. That way no one can argue about what should or shouldn't be perked.

Right on.
There is no better way to regulate prices on anything in a game, than by adjusting it based on what the players do. That way there can be no squeaking about something being wrong, the prices are set to regulate usage to exactly what they want it to be. It might take a month or two for things to level out but once it happened, the values would definitly make sense.
I find it odd that, as relativly simple as these systems are to implement, few games actually use anything like it.

Dang Ra!!!
good idea!!! and base it from month to month.
