Was just online and heard HT say that they are thinking about blocking the ability for squads to rotate, he said it causes an imbalance. To some point I agree but not completly. The past few rotations we, MOL, have waited for a few days after the new tour to see what the numbers are doing before switching . Forcing a squad to stay in one country month after month shouldn't be the solution IMO.
One of the pleasures of rotating is seeing, fighting and fighting with all the people in the MA, not just 1/3 or 2/3's of them. If HTC would give the rotating squads some direction and some options that are coordinated to help keep the MA in balance then the only problem would be the "path of least resistance" players who, IMO are the real problem.
-
oh my... good thing about it is that HTC does recognize that there is a problem. But disabling the option to change countries as a squad is not a solution.
-
A solution is to make a big organising day where squads are moved to appropriate slots in order to balance the arena and then freeze the situation untill the next organising day 1-2 months later.
A bit like doing scenarios, the scenario ops will choose who gets which slot in the game..
How does that sound?
-

You're kidding right Mrlars? That kind of thing might cause some squads to rotate right out of AH...
-
funkedup if you mean the squads that rotate in order to keep the 2:1 setup, I don't mind if they DO rotate out of the game.
-
The funny thing is that someone believes rotating squads cause this problem.
Seems to me.. the problem is more a result of squads not rotating.

Ewe, this would not be a good solution. Actually, there is no solution that can be "mandated". Happened in AW, happens here, and I'm sure it happened in WB. Eventually the worm turns, and somebody else is 'low man on the totem pole'. In the meantime, suck it up and enjoy the 'target rich' environment ;).

Dawwgus otherwise that's a good idea but this trend has continued now already for months save a day or two.
Again last night bishops had more players than knight and rooks combined. To make things worse, some retarded rook players wouldn't stop attacking knights even though they agreed to hit bish only with rooks. That played straight into bish hands, they could continue the old gangbang routine freely with our alliance broken in 2 minutes due to the ignorance of 5-6 rook players.

I dont think that prohibiting or punishing is a good way to cure the imbalance. It would be better if flying in the underdog country could be made more tempting with... perk earning modifier?... cheaper perk planes? ... score points modifier? ...what else?
What would make it more tempting?
-
I have thought of that too BlauK. Score multiplier would bring the most scorehungry (and often skilled) players to the smallest side.
It could cause unfairness at times if two small countries hit the largest one - BUT - unless the largest country has ridiculously larger playerbase than the others, the score multiplier wouldn't change that much to the other two's advantage.
It wouldn't stop two countries bullying the third but at least it would probably stop 100+50 vs 40 situations which are common in MA now. 70+50 vs 50 sounds a lot better than 150 vs 40 doesn't it? Well, it still sucks. That only shows the extent of the problem.
That would basically mean that nobody would care about scoremultiplier as long as one side doesn't have 20-150% more players than other. If they had, scoremongers would migrate to the side that gives fast points and arena would be automatically balanced again.
It wouldn't make any sense flying at 2:1 advantage anymore, quite the opposite.
That would reward the true skill, managing to get kills when odds are against you. Right now MA just goes by the numbers.

cheaper perk plane imo
it can end like the luftwaffe in 1944/45

I wasn't online to hear HiTech's statement and I imagine you are summarizing his remarks. I don't know how accurate your summary is ... not implying you are being dishonest ... maybe a honest misunderstanding.
I cannot imagine HTC doing anything which affects the "bread and butter" (read squads) ability to participate in the sim as they choose.
To Toad's signature, I might add "Fly where you want and when you want."

AKCurly he very clearly said he has been considering of blocking squad rotations. I was there.

I concur with what Lars said 100%.

HT was bombarded with questions yesterday but he did reply to me that the rotating squads do create an imballance. He MAY have ment that they are looking at thiungs to help the ballance some including restricting rotating squads but the imperssion I got was that it wasn't the only thing being looked at.
When HT's in blue it is rather hard to get indepth answers since he trys to answer just about all legitimate questions. I have faith in his ability to adjust game options to keep the MA an enjoyable experience but it takes time for problems to develop and even more time to find an acceptible solution. I'm positive he's seen the responses and will taylor his fix accordingly cause he's "gUd aT FliGhT SiMz". :D

Do squads really do that MrRipley? Sad if they do.
Back when I was a squadron leader I coordinated our rotations with some other big squads and we went out of our way to reduce any numbers imbalances.
-
Funkedup I dont know if they do :)
But from what I've seen lately it wouldn't surprise me.
If rotations cause the imbalance, someone must be making the wrong decisions.. logical isn't it?

I wouldn't be suprised that a very small minority of squads do rotate to the side with the numbers, however, I'll lay odds that the major amount of players that do switch strictly to be on the side with the numbers aren't in squads at all. The "path of least resistance" players, IMO, are the bulk of the problem.
-
I can see where it might be necessary at some point to limit the switching of sides. Perhaps some positive incentive instead of restriction.
However, whatever method is decided, it would be unwise of them to single out members of squadrons for special discrimination as opposed to applying any restriction across the player community as a whole.

AGREED!

The best solution that I have ever read about but has yet to be tried is the incentive plan. Give the score mongers a reason to go to the underdog and they will. For some reason its never been tried in the two Sims I have been involved in. Why I don't know, maybe they know something I don't.
Its like your job. If you know your going to get a nice incentive check at the end of the year if you and you fellow employee's do a great job then what do you do?:)
Same for going to an outnumbered country. :D
LLB OUTSKI!!!!!!!!!!!

We have to leave it to the hands of HT..
May our whines be heard.
-
Has anyone or HTC done analysis on the cause for the numbers imbalance? Rotating squads have been mentioned but are we certain that rotating squads is the major cause of the imbalance? Or is it as MrLars says, the individual players? Or is it both? I would be curious to see some data on this.

Again, Bish is the default subscription country...just change it.
-
Again Rude, you're wrong. HT has clearly said it's been random for some time already.
-
As someone who enjoys the variety that switching countries can bring now and then, I'd like to put my vote down for NOT disabling Squad Comms cross-country or having to withdraw from the squad to switch. There's gotta be a better way....and it's YOUR job to think of it HT, since I'm to lazy and unable to come up with any stupid ideas at the moment :)
