FWIW, I find a joystick to be key for immersion with turrent slew, etc. Check out Steel Beasts to see the best modern tank sim (the Falcon 4 of tank sims) on the market.

I went to the link, is that a new Panzer Elite? or the original from 99?  I wouldnt mind playing an immersive WWII tank simulator, is it any good?

Any thoughts / comments are greatly appreciated

I have both old and new CDs for the game, advantage the new version has is it comes with the mega download mods.  Something  like Lars&Lenhorts Panzer Pack 2 can run upto 120 MB.   But make sure you look for spyware after DL'ing stuff from CD of new version.

Game play is great, most on kali server 46 which to my knowledge is still offered at no charge.  Only complaint I got is bullet travel is porked.  You could spot mickey mouse 1500 yards away travelling at 20 MPH and there is no need to lead it.  If you have the range down you'll hit it.  Though a serious issue for the hardcore tankers I believe it still takes a backseat to MP and offline campaign action those are just too good.

With the Mods you have almost all the heavies to choose from, king tiger, T34/85, patton.  Brits on the other hand have nothin to offer against these monsters but gameplay with brits armor is a blast in North Africa.

Fester, i bought the game, and i love it.

Pro's
-Small community, not much whining
-User add on's - Some user add on's add 50+ tanks
-Tiger II :)
-Tons of senario's
-Ton's of single missions
-A group called "Ostpack" (i think) releases Seanrio's and tanks all the time
-With user add on's all theather's included - N. Africa, German, Russia, U.S.

Con's
-If you don't downlaod the user add on's (The User add on's are included on the Bonus CD BTW) the game is just OK
-Gun modeling isn't the best
-I have P700 256 MB Ram, and Voodoo 5 and get 20 FPS constant (probally the voodoo)
-Has multiplayer, but not too many use it

All and all it was worth the 30$, and if i had to make the decision over again, i would buy it. I will take some screen shots and post them later

-Edit- Have a lotta HD space, with the user add on's the game takes up 2.5 Gig

How is the offline play?  Are you controlling a single tank or a number of them, is it immersive or just a hardcore sim for people who love tanks?

Hitech wouldn't ask such a stupid question. It's the equivalent of someone asking if they're better of buyin shoes that tie up with velcro or laces.

For offline you have the option of controlling 1 tank, a pair of tanks, or you can command a unit (4 or 6 tanks i think). The game includes options for realistic ballistics or Reduced realism. So it could be for hardcore fans, or it could be for people who love tanks.

Forgot to mention. The scenario's are what i really like. You choose from:

-Short senario (30 mins to 1hr)
-Medium Senario (2 hours)
-Long senario (3+ hours)

For example a senario:

N. Africa: (Axis Senario) The germans are retreating, but the American's stop chasing you North after some time. You and other Unit's decide to launch an offenive.

Then a map come's up, it shows enemy positions, and it show's where ther other German tank unit's are, and there line of attack.

-Edit- there was a lot more of a story to this senario, but i am just posting what I remember.
