LMAO!:D
Good old Queenie...here's hoping she sticks around another fifty...or at least long enough to prevent Charles from sitting on the "throne". Just can't see him as King.

The Russians had the right idea in 1917...
...hey, was that tasteless? :D

Fifty years and not one election for the Head of State.
Congratulations and the best of health to the Queen. :)

Was just wondering, what does the Queen and her Royal family actually do for England besides live the high life on the backs of her citizens?
Isn't she/they just a figure head or do they have real political clout? Just wondering, no offense intended...

Ah, thanks for the pic...I was wondering where Elian was after all this time :D

The Queen + the rest of the royal family are the Uk's Ambassadors to the rest of the world, they bring in quite a bit of money in our way. There's the tourism thing too- people come to the Uk to see the monarchy.
I would much rather have the Queen than President Blair anyday! She's a lot more respectable than any politician in the Uk and the Royal family isn't a bad Role model- I thought Prince Charles did well on the Dope scandal concerning Prince Harry.
I did start writing about how the monarchy came to be as weak as it is today, but then i realised how long and complicated it was and it would take forever to write.

LOL, thanks! :) Well, I managed to miss the party, but it seems while we were just over 100 miles away visiting family, there was none-stop torrential rain/thunder-storms - in fact we passed through one coming home. Not seen it rain so hard for years, so bad that even on double-speed the windscreen wipers weren't clearing it fast enough and we could barely see where we were going.... the roads were flooding rapidly.
A shame really, our neighbours had raised a lot of money over the last few months to have this party, and gone to a lot of trouble to get the road closed, with all the proper signs and diversions set up, as well as insurance cover. Saturday had been a glorious day while they had been setting up too. The one thing nobody could prevent was that awful weather.... :(

Congrats...
hey flo you didnt put those flags up did you?
that looks pretty dangerous climbing those poles :)

I think the Queen still has quite a lot of power officially (i.e able to dissolve parliament, sack a P.M e.t.c) (don't quote me tho :) ) however in practice they are next to useless, i only know of 1 time the Queen's powers were used to sack a PM was in Australia in the seventies, and it was done by the governor general (queen's rep in Australia) but not actually supported by her. Hope this helps Eagler.

I think you may be confusing Charles with Edward :D

When does Charles become Queen?
Maybe when he and Elton John get married?
BTW do you know whats the similarity with E.John and a fishing boat? Both have Mercury sticked up in their arse.. ;)

Nevermind, I thought this thread was to congratulate me on finishing my morning crossword session.
