The Swedes should never have scored...bad, bad defending...they let him walk the ball to the front of the goal and let him shoot unobstructed. But...that is football.
I guess there is a nil effect for our bet Hortund.
I was up at 6.30am to watch the game....on a Sunday....Boy, do I love the World Cup!:D

The Swedes were piss-poor in the first half and we should have buried them. Only Saudi Arabia have played that badly in this tournament.
But England in the second half were atrocious. The mid-field couldn't get a handle on the play - Sweden played averagely but made England look very ordinary. What's with the long-ball strategy when you've pace players as strikers?
Beckham was barely fit from what I saw and had a very quiet 60 mins. If only we had Gerrard to bolster that midfield.
Defensively we were solid for most of the game - which is good.
I think some major changes are coming for the Argentina game. Otherwise we might as well not turn up.
The only good thing is that we didn't lose. It ain't over til it's over. :)
England doesn't like it to be easy - we need adversity to excel and bring out the bulldog spirit. And besides it wouldn't be a world cup without England making it hard for themselves. :D
Also, we haven't beaten Sweden in a competitive game since 1968. And we always seem to play badly against them - I saw them at Wembley for the Euro 2000 qualifier and it was one of the worst games I've ever seen.

Pretty fair game imho, Sweden sucked bad in the first half and England sucked bad in the second half...

England stop playing that fu**ing long ball! It really annoys me that England will do about 3 passes and then hoof the ball 50yrds upfield and give away possesion. Why England don't play a passing game is beyond me, we have the players with the ability.
England really stank in the 2nd half, i wasn't too impressed in the 1st half either- we just play that long ball over and over.:(

First time we win the first match of a tournament since World Cup 1950(!!) And that year we were 4th!

Hm...at least I wont have to fly around in a Spit. IMO Sweden was closer to victory than England. But then again, England was the stronger team in the first half.
All in all I think it was a fair result.

Although we played S*it today, i recon England will put up a big fight against the argies and hopefully win the next two to go top, it won't be easy for em, but I recon they can do it.

Yes that's right, the worst team EVER to play in a world cup. They couldn't mark, tackle or track back and half time didn't know waht formation they were supposed to be playing.
Anyone looks good playing against poor opposition - and Saudi looked about as capable as a Sunday League side...

I had doubts that Germany could even get a tie vs. the Saudis.
We have one of the worst teams ever so i think it was a great work of our team and it gives me the trust that Germany could reach the quarter finals.

So what if it's 8-0? The point is that the opposition wasn't even of international standard - the Saudi team would have trouble competing in any of the 4 professional English leagues.
You should have won 8-0. Anything less would have been a scandal.

It was a given that Germany would advance out of their group. They'll smack Ireland and will be through without needing a result against Cameroon.
England has a tough time of it now, Argentina is clearly in the driver's seat for the Group of Death. If Argentina gets a good result against England, they can, and will, rest players against Sweden, especially if Nigeria wins or ties against Sweden. Hopefully, England can secure at least a tie against Argentina.

I think England is really in a tight spot now. We've always had poor openings to the world cup (particularly in '90) - but I don't think we've ever had a group as tough as this one.

U have to understand that Germany is not competible. Since 4 or 5 years we are only 2nd class compared to other european teams - we can't even beat England :D. So I'm really happy with that 8-0 cause we could also lose that game and there's a good possibility that this could be the only game we'll win.
