Another well attended frame. At roll we had 35/43 [edit] in favour of Axis [/edit].
Due to some technical difficulties we had a problem with DAR being on when it should have been off.
I hope this did not cause too much of a problem for people.
This frame was a much closer event I think the logs will show that no target was totally destoryed.

As Axis CO I'll prolly post a more detailed AAR soon but with numbers at a 35 / 43 split, and 12 of our planes being bombers it was actually 23 / 43 in terms of fighters.
Pretty inevitably our defenders at A7 and P36 had a rough time, but they died hard and mounted one hell of an effort to prevent the targets being levelled. !
And 308's torpedo attack was a true thing of beauty :) Thanks to them and 418 for providing cover.

DAR being on was a mystery to me, sorry... :( It looked OK in the Arena Settings and indeed all I did after it was mentioned was go to Change it and then clicked OK without changing anything. Seems the DAR settings need a kick to take effect....

Thanks Vladd, I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.
The battle at A7 must have been a sight, there were 2 squadrons of hogs attacking it.
I can’t wait for frame 3 now.

I flew a Ki-67 and sunk a CV, and brained a hog with my 20 mm. :)
Hats off to CFIT for aiming our squadron so well and also to all the fighters who helped us out.

Well flying Allied i sure as hell saw no radar operating but i guess it probably explains why P36 had a KI61 and N1k squad cruising at alt just waiting for us when we arrived and got creamed.
I really expected to enjoy this TOD but so far its fast turning into a chore to attend.

Mag33 never even saw port 36, Heavy hogs getting bounced by Hi N1K's do not last very long.
And yea i am seriously pissed with the whole TOD thing at the moment.

The plan was to hit both P36 and A7 from the start, then defend P38 with one squadron and return the other 3 to the carrier for the second phase.
I was expecting the Axis to launch an attack on P38 from the south west, and cap A7 for the first phase. I didn’t expect an attack straight away on the carrier, so it was undefended for a while. At least I got something right :)
The attack on P36 went well to start with, WOD de-acked the field and took out a few targets in F6Fs. We had to drop our DTs when we got attacked by the Kis. That’s when I heard that Mag33 who were following us in got wiped out. I’m not sure if they managed to do any damage to the port. Only 3 of the WOD managed to get out of the fight at P36, they RTBd but 2 pranged their planes on the landing.
The attack on A7 lost a few pilots to the 10 min window, so it was not 2 full squadrons. I sent my two largest squadrons and gave them the 6 Chogs we had, in the hope of overcoming the defence. I think the 56th FG dropped their ordinance and started attacking your defensive force, while the 332nd attacked the field. Im not sure how accurate this is as I was at P36 getting by arse kicked by a few Kis.
In the second phase we were left with about 5 planes, 3 Chogs (56th FG), 1 F4U (332nd) and an F6 (WOD). I’m not sure how many you guys had left at this point but I guessed 15-20. I really wanted to finish off A7 but as we approached (I was an observer by this time) there was a large formation of bombers at high alt heading towards our CV. The 56th FG and Loddar dropped ordinance and gave chase, while Bozon attacked the field in his hog. Bozon managed to do some damage to A7 but there were still 2 hangars up I think. The fighters got stuck into the buff group, who were escorted by Zekes. I’m not sure how many they shot down but the fight was great to see.
Loddar then generally harassed the attacking buffs and zekes, while flying back to the CV guns for cover when he had a few on his tail. Bozon rearmed and did the same.
Well that was the frame from my point of view, I’m looking forward to hearing the other AAR reports.

I came to this frame with a mean intention to get a land base back so I could trade my f4u for a much more favorable ride like the jug or p-38.
when we got near to A7, the 56th, who took-off before us, were already furballing with the defenders.
so in my formation dived blasting through the cloud of bandits to drop on the target. one of my wingman softened a FH and I finished the job, extending low (going so fast that to the nik I passed, my blue f4u had shifted to red...).
on the rockets pass, I found another softened FH and killed it as well.
since my squadron has been wiped out, I joined with the 56th for the second phase. again at A7 we spotted a lot of dots. the 56th went A2A, and I who had the heady ord, sneaked alone to the base. killed one of the BH and strifed all the ammo and fuel on the field before RTB.
refueled again, I headed to A7 but met with ki67+escort otw our CV. I tried something experimental - killing ki67 with the rockets. but I missjuged their diraction, came on their 10 oc instead of planned HO, forced the rockets shot and splashed into the water at a near sonic speed (that was embarresing...:p ). thus ended the life of the last allied pilot up.
I really hope we got A7...

We held for a fix on the CV. Intermittent reports, but not enough to go on. The Ki67s burned holes in the sky. Finally we were tasked an escort. Then the escort had to refuel -- at A7. So we overflew A7, but then we started having fuel concerns ourself. Fine, time to move towards the target. We turned E towards the suspected target location, then spotted a number of dots on our six. The escorts were still refueling -- fariz was our only cover. He bravely did what he could, but soon we had hawgs above and behind us.
It looked bad, real bad. I've got a dozen bombers about to get bounced by some fast air pirates. The nearest escorts are on the other side -- some zekes down low and the remnants of another group that are up a little higher. Everybody is yelling at me to drag low and reverse.
Have any of you ever tried even a minor altitude or heading change as a leader of a buff squadron in a scenario?
I gotta admit, I froze for a second there. If this guy would only dive in and kill himself, it'd make my choice a lot easier. It wasn't going to happen. Was he hounding us to his friends? Now there were two on us.
Okay, do nothing sudden. Call a descent to 15k, and resist the temptation to firewall the throttle.
They still hung up there.
Now call a turn LEFT from 090 to 270 in 30 seconds.
Orze1's repeating every command for me so there'll be no mixups.
I wait until the hawgs are out of position and from the 20mm cupola, stomp the rudder, yelling on the radio.
Guns blazing, the whole formation turns. 12 ships, and not a straggler. The hawgs are still tentative. We make contact with the zekes, now having climbed to our altitude. The lead calls "Turn 180". Another perfect formation turn, and we hand off the corsairs to the escorts.
We're still heading south 5 miles later when we get the call that the CV has been spotted -- heading for the spot we just came from. Idle throttle, reverse and dive to the deck heading 010; then 030. Now things get really interesting. Working on an intercept course, spreading the formation out, clipping whitecaps, I don't have time to worry about bandits. The line's looking pretty good, when someone calls a bandit in. The zekes have followed us down, and a corsair comes shooting through. We're all in the cupolas as it attacks. Hoses on -- I land hits, as does just about everyone else. Krotki buys it; I take some 50s, but the corsair loses most of its parts (that detroit 6 year/60,000 mile deal is only good for the powertrain), and smacks the waves, sending aluminum shrapnel in all directions. Back tot he front. Looking good, looking good.

Another corsair, but this guy gets cold feet and pulls off. Back to the front.
Crap, we're coming in too steep -- this is going to be close to a bow attack. I yell into RW for a hard turn and fire; orze1 repeats. YAnk, pickle, rudder turn away.
Then the ack comes up. First shot takes off my rudder. Time for me to ride this one out. I just hope nobody follows. Right when I think I'm going to make it, I explode.

I watched the second run from the gunner position of the lead ship. At one point, I heard the noise of a screaming fighter, saw tracers, but by the time I looked around, all I saw were a couple of rocket streaks.
So THAT's what happened.

Sorry cav but the ki-61s were tasked to CAP P36 and the Firebird nik2 were tasked with CAPing in the area you were jumped.
The DAR problem was not a factor in you being intercepted. We would have been there anyway.
If you like I can send you the Axis orders, it is pretty clear that Vladd had a good plan and you guys were unlucky to run straight into the Firebirds.

Vladd always has a good plan, thats why we got hammered in Frame 1 also.
Nice work Vladd, hope your luck runs out in frame 3 though :)

The Allies will be pleased to know that Vladd has been retired for this TOD and the next frames CO for Axis will be Dinger/CFIT.
Allies will be under the expert control of Swoop.

Well, if CFIT does a good a job as CO he's described as squad lead above, I think the Axis are in safe hands.
When I heard the Ki67s were in contact with enemy fighters I was practically tearing my hair our. I had horrendous mental images of our only anti-shipping unit, having spent the first hour doing nothing but wait patiently, getting massacred because I hadn't arranged proper cover for them whilst the main escort force refueled. It didn't help either that I had been over the CV and then lost contact, which was the main reason for the delay in the first place...
CFIT's leadership in keeping his force intact and delivering that attack actually got me out of jail. WTG and Thanks!

The 18°Gruppo and Airmageddon with their Ki61 has taken off from A7 and they were destroyed over P36 excetp 1, MechW2 from 18°Gruppo whom, remained alone, he was returning to base on fuel shortage but, having enough ammo, he thought to support 9GIAP's on A7 and........that was his end too.
My radiator was hitted over P36 after I have smoked 3 F6F without having seen any explosion or kill message, so I managed my plane heading it to A7 but my engine thought that it was better to turn itself off so I was forced to land slaloming between the trees till to stop, and at finish I was ditched.
The 3rd 18°Gruppo's pilot (Tempest4), was shoot down over P36 and till now I have not report about his kills if any, while Rotty and his wingman on Ki61 were shoot down too.
Another thx to all the CM group and Vladd/Rotty for their collaboration.
And last but not least...........NO MORE GIVE US Ki61 PLZ :p :D

An all out Allied attack from the start was the one circumstance I knew would cause us problems. Both Allied targets could be hit simultaneously and we would be outnumbered in the skies at both of them. Nevertheless I decided to concentrate on defense from the start, even though I knew our buffs would be left with a long, tedious wait until we could locate the CV and arrange escort. Sorry guys...
We had 18 gruppo 3 Stormo and Airmaggeddon Squadrons' Ki61s defending P36 right from the start. 9GIAP had A7 to defend, with 6 N1ks under Skyman patrolling between the two objectives.
As the Allied attacks began, 418 Sqn's Zeros attacked P38 and I ordered them to rush to P36 to help counter the attack there. Unfortunately the Allies had withdrawn by the time they arrived, leaving 4 of the 5 original defenders shot down or ditched. The N1Ks intercepted an F4U flight as related by Cav, but did not get embroiled in the low combat: Perhaps if they had the result at P36 would have been more conclusive there in our favour. OTOH this may also have prevented their effective intervention at A7 shortly afterwards. Certainly the A7 battle was about the bloodiest I've seen in a TOD and the N1Ks were desperately needed there.
After the initial onslaught, we had only 1 Ki61 (Fariz) and 1 N1K (JoGee) over A7. P36 was left without cover, so our outnumbered fighters had been decimated. I am just impressed to hell with the way they fought in adverse circumstances! But they had done enough I hope to prevent the loss of either base, our secondary target had been damaged, and I still had 418 and 308 squadrons intact for a counter strike.

while this is not an official 56th FG AAR post, I will say this :
56th FG were tasked to attack A7. Getting into the vicinity, we noticed hi cons capping, and dropped our ord. We were at 10K at this point. We climbed staying just within dot range of the enemy till we were co alt, then attacked using hi alt advantages of the F4U. (Btw, as a P47 pilot, I really suck in the F4U :D)
Our squadron did a splendid job of forcing the enemy to give up their alt, atleast I thought so. Once the enemy was on the deck, we began to bounce them from higher altitudes, aswell as continue our attacks into the acks. Getting the enemy low I think was crucial to the 332nd coming in and doing the damage that they did to the field. We saw Ki61's, and I think a zeke initially, but sometime in the middle of the fight some N1k2's showed up. It was a very vicious fight at A7, the cons mixing it up hard with us. I personally was trying to exit the area, with a Ki61 on my tail, when a N1K and I went HO. Took both of us out.

332nd Vikings took off from CV 39 and lost over half of there pilot in the water:o
(with F4u 100% fuel + 2x1000lbs and Rockets=Trying to take off with a TANK from CV!,... and Andy!.... wait awhile before you visit the Viking bar again:D).
A bit unorginized we IB A-7 at 8k with only a 1/2 sqaud, rest in the water:D.
We had to du zig zag between the cons above and lurked us in on SW side of the base, and went for the VH.
Spoted by 2 enemy on our rear Ogun bravely broke formation and draged them away;), and 3 of us dived on VH, I first getting outthe Guns, and Swap and Rompa took out the VH.
Then hell broke out:eek:, enemy come from every were, and we droped our loads, and fought a brave fight !
We cud have turn away and got out, but we stayed fighting and joined our brothers in arms who was in the battle;)
Then Bozon come alonge with his Blue flight and took out 1 or 2 FH .
Was fun as always;)

You flatter me, Vladd. THe only reason we survived that was because every single pilot following me in the squadron was disciplined enough to follow my gyratin' prettythang. It's easy to lead when the guys you're leading know how to follow. Oh yeah, and having an XO repeat every command, and fill in the blanks really helps. Without Orze1 keeping folks in line, it would have been ugly.
That's the plain truth folks -- I ain't bein' modest.

That was a tough day for us, we lost many with few kills. We prevented destruction of a7 though with forcing f4us to stop their attack and ditch their load.
We had fun, looking ahead for a next frame :)

You know the Mongrels have an award we call the "Fat Dog". Anyone who can take off and land three times in a row in a F4UD with 100% fuel, 2-1000lb and rockets earns it. Not easy, and it does take practice, but about 6 of us have it. :)
Of course we drop the ord before we land again. ;)
Wish I had time to fly with you guys GA. Just have too many puppies running around on Saturday. :D
