im fed up with the old piii 750 with the tnt2 card so here is what i can afford to get:
athlon xp1700+266mhz w/fan (266FSB)
asus a7v266m ddr with sound
256mb pc266 ddr
inno3d gf4 ti4200
40gb seagate barracuda
17" mag 770ffs monitor
altec lansing avs 500
~$730
now the only other cpus available here with 266fsb are the slower athlons and the p4 2.2ghz which is a ripoff so thats the major reason why im buying amd. would it be better if i get a faster athlon but with 133fsb only?
do you think that the cpu, mobo, ram suite would work ok?
is it better to immediately replace the cpus stock fan with a better one or can i just use the stock fan and add an intake and an exhaust fan to the set-up?
in the future ill get a 4channel sound card for the speakers but thats when i have more money.
need your advice soon, ill buy this pc in the next 24 hours:)
thanks all.

I dont know where you get your info from, but all athlons work on a 133Mhz FSB. Because it's coupled with DDR ram the effective clock is 266. Buy the fastest Athlon XP you can afford, it's 20% faster at same clock speed than the original athlon.
The biggest problems I could find in your new system is the monitor and ram. Ram is cheap to buy and easy to upgrade..
However you'll be screwed with the small monitor - it's the most expensive single component in your system and a small screen takes a lot of value away from your system. That means you'll most likely be forced to increase the size and pay yourself sick doing it.
But if you can't afford a 19" then you can't.. I'd save and buy at least 19" for a new computer, no options.

That system will run AH just fine!
The fan and heatsink included with the retail Athlon XP is more than sufficient.
I concur with Ripley about the monitor. If you already have a monitor, save your money and buy at least a 19" monitor sometime in the future.

That is a nice system that will AH just fine..expect 70ish frames with it.
I second what ripply said however.
Get yourself a Samsung 900nf monitor..400 US or so and you will really get the benifit of that system.
Biggest system mistake I have made is dragging along lame monitors...
