P47D-11 used to be underweight
P47D-25 has strange Brazilian markings
P47D-30 newbies ruin its score
P47M info is available in coloring books published by Ammobooks

LOL hristo, mostly true.

In respect to AH performance, there is really not alot of diffrence between the three P-47's we have in regards to performance.  In ordinace capability, the D30 shines, and IMO, is the ultimate JABO.

The D11 is a true razorback, and AH has modeled it slightly faster at all altiutdes, about 4 MPH. It has limited range due to its smaller tanks and ability to carry only a 75 gallon DT. In real life, in 1944, the D11 had 150 gallon DT's available.

The D25 is modeled in Brazilian colors. It used the same engine as the D11. It could carry more ordinance and fuel than the D11. It is also equiped with a hamilton Prop, which in real life significantly helped its climbrate.

The best reference that I know of for information on all P-47s is Warren Bodie's "THUNDERBOLT, FROM SEVERSKI TO VICTORY"

You can all read about the P-47 and its various versions by going to P-47: Aviation Darwinism (http://home.att.net/~historyzone/Seversky-Republic.html) .

This article was written by C.C. Jordan with Warren Bodie specifically for the Cradle of Aviation Museum. If you can't find Bodie's book, this is a good primer on the aircraft, with lots of photos and illustrations. It consists of about 17,000 words in 8 chapters, or about 5 times larger than a typical magazine article.

Picked up his book "The Lockheed P-38 Lightning" the other day which seems to be a good read so far although the story/history can get a bit slow/bland at times. Nonetheless, I recommend it if simply for the great pictures.

ISBN 0-9629359-5-6

$24.95

Warren is a good friend and occasional co-writer. The next time you guys want to buy his books, I'll see if Warren has any autographed copies at home. Those of you who wish to e-mail Mr. Bodie, drop me a line and I'll forward you his address. At 79 yrs old, he still loves to hear from his readers.

BTW, he's working on several new books as I write this.

My regards,

Widewing

Hey Widewing, on that website, quote:

"As the later half of the 1930’s crept by, the obvious increase in tensions in Europe and Japan’s war with China created a greater demand worldwide for combat aircraft. Seversky, feeling the severe pinch of the depression combined with American isolationism was quickly being overwhelmed by red ink. The Major began marketing his aircraft and design experience to several nations. Soon, orders began arriving from Japan, the Soviet Union, Columbia and Sweden. "

Columbia? or Colombia?

that "Jug" called P47.

Ok, it hold a few   negative properties like climbing like a stone or that damn thing shakes while high speed dives and compresses and the german Focke Wulf is the better choice for flying, but...

- nothing can hold so much damage and still flys
- the loadout is like an PJ and you have better internal view
- in high alt that "flying stone" is speed up
- lots of guns :D, when enemy is in sight press all gun buttons
and fill the air around the enemys flight path with bullets,
you have enough of it, anything should hit him. :D

Everybody knows that the FW190 was a pale attempt to copy the P47 blueprints ... and the Me109 was a cropduster converted in the heat of the uncoming war.:D

Heh..not an expert jug flyer, but P-47M came out in Jan. '45... almost all planes went to 56th..had tons engine problems, mostly due to incorrect storage procedures for shipping. That was all fixed by march---M went 470 mph level..was fastest prop job of war....but by march, 1945...wasnt much to do but shoot up trains.
