I am gradually getting to grips with Aces high, for now I am concentrating on the Fughters. I think it is best to get as much practice as possible with a single plane rather than jumping around on different ones.
Can anyone advise which is the best plane to use - I.e Speed, Weapons, Tolerence when Flying ?
Thanks for you help
Al.

DONT MENTION WHAT HTE BEST PLANE IS YOU WILL GET A HOLE BUNCH OF ANSWERS AND IT WILL BECOME A FLAME WAR...

I'll be the first to say, try the spit or the N1K2 :)

I guess everyone will have a different opinion. Probably not a simple answer, all depends what you like.
I've only been playing Aces High for a few days, so I'm still getting to grips.
Perhaps a better question, is what statistic should I look for ( if it exists) that indicates how easy a plane is to fly - i.e is less likely to stall, get in a spin and so on. I assume some planes are more tolerant than others.

The LA7 is like a Millenium Falcon here! A subtle sleeper, almost invincible and hardly anyone flies one!

Spoit IX is a good plane to learn the game with. Does everything well, except Jabo.

Jabo ??
Apologies as a newbie for not knowing the terminology.

Jabo=Ground Attack
Its from the German word Jagdbuffoon, which means "The 190F8 is really porked" or something like that. Anyhow, Jabo=Ground Attack

I've been with AH for over a year and just started venturing into fighters. I started with Goons, worked over to bombers and so forth.
I've flown some training missions with my squads top pilots, and we seem to find the F6F Hellcat is a good all around fighter. Poor acceleration, good roll rate, can keep up with most of the better turn fighters for the first 2 loops, etc. Plus 6 50's with a ton of ammo is great for those of us who's gunnery needs work.
From my experience, the Hellcat can take alot of damage too. Downside is you won't be able to keep up with the faster planes unless you have an e-advantage. So if your gonna fly the kitty, be sure to start a fight with some alt to play with.

if you fly any other plane than a 190a8 w/ quad 20mm you surely must be a dweeb :D

I never flew a flight sim before i came here in feb. of this year...
my CO convinced me to join up and i couldn't be happier :D
when i asked him what to learn flying in he said 205...
it's not an easy ride to learn on but you'll be glad that you learned to control a more difficult plane from the start instead of learning in something easy to fly.

I might be going against the grain with this one, but....
I'd suggest starting with an 'E' fighter, rather than an 'A' fighter.
Getting proficient in E management will pay larger dividends down the road.
My Suggestions:
P-51D
F4u-1D
Fw190-a8 or Fw190-d9
P-47D30
These I chose for thier good overall speed, high speed handling, decent zoom and good views.

If its learning you're after, fly the C205 and P-51; they are great planes to learn in. If you're after just having fun, do fly n1k and spits.

I use to think this too, but actuelly I find flying allot of different planes help, you get a feel for what your opponent is flying as well.

Mosquito Mk VI.
It can do everything, handles well at high speed and has tremendous firepower.
It lacks some in the flat out speed and turn and climbs poorly. It accelerates well, and like a bat out of hell in a dive.
Its not too easy to use without thought, but it is good enough to be competitive.
P-38L is a bit the same, but climbs much better and lacks the heavy firepower.
The Bf110G-2 is a third all round good choice.

I recommend staying with one "main ride" at 1st such as a
spit 5 or 9 its a well balanced plane for all dogfighting use, its very forgiving to mistakes you will make at first.
a a6m or nik would be my choice for a turn fighter
La7 , 190d ,F6F ,any 109e /g, and P 51 for a Bnz fighter and learning throttle control /energy tactics
the mossie,bf110,and p 38 are all great handling twins use bnz tactics with them.
I myself started in the F4u and stuck with it dying repeatly til i mastered it . then i went into a spitfire.I became a ace overnight in a spit.
i think my learning curve was twice as long as anyone elses because i picked one of the hardest planes to master in the game.
So pick one plane and learn it well and try all the others at times to start getting the feel for their differences . But always go back to your main ride when you get discuraged /or just having a bad day.
To get better at ACM start having duels and filming do alot of 1 vs 1 work .
Im sorry I cant recommend the P51 as a great "starter plane because it isnt,
it take alot of practice to master a p 51 to its full potental .( i see more p 51's cartwheeling in the air then any ther plane )
my best advice it to try to avoid head ons and learn to out manuver your opponent. extend and run away when you lose the advantage .
