What year and battle did a Hellcat shoot down and record the first and only victory of a Hellcat over a FW190?
-
Was it in 1944? and was it from the British Fleet air arm? They had 1,182 of the blighters and scored several hundred kills in them :)

Royal Navy Hellcat I's (F6F-3)involved in escorting attacks on Tirpitz. On May 8, 1944, the Luftwaffe came up to protect the battleship. Hellcats from 800 squadron HMS Emperor took on the German fighters and shot down 1 Fw-190 and two Bf-109G fighters. The Hellcats suffered one loss to the Luftwaffe and another to anti-aircraft fire.

Ok. Correct!
Now Part II. :)
How many Axis planes did the F6F's shoot down over France starting in June 1944 and after?
