I just want to set the record straight so that there will be no confusion regarding what I fly and how I choose to fly it.
I have flown multiplayer online flight sims for some eleven years....started in AWDOS....then WB's....now AH.
I have almost exclusively flown the P-51D...most likely 90% of that total time.
I ALWAYS seek the advantage in a fight....I do my best to stay hot at all times....If for any reason I do not feel that I have the upper hand, I regroup and re-engage.
I prefer the bounce due to how it makes my opponent feel....Big tough fighter pilot guy one minute....pretty sunset from the tower the next!
I will never change my MO....especially because someone calls me a runstang or tries to tell me how to fly my $30.00 a month.
I would like to apologise for my outburst last night regarding LLB and Kwan....after all these years, I just can't get over how some feel the need to tell others how to fly this sim.....I simply forgot how crappy the two of them must have felt to be killed and to watch their friends get sacked and then not be able to do anything about it other than to whine on channel one. Sorry guys....my oversight.
The 51 kills with inpunity as does the FW or the Spit or perhaps some others offered here that I have no seat time in.
If the Knifefight is your bag...so be it...just remember that when I come screamin down from the heavens at 400ias and bounce your highly skilled rear end, I'll be laughin all the way out of Dodge!

Personally, I enjoy fighting from a disadvantage because of the way it makes the opponent feel. Lot's of altitude and E one minute, pretty sunset in the tower the next minute. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
(Of course, when the other guy knows what he is doing, I often die like a dog. Hehe.)
I (almost) never waste the energy to complain about the way another guy flies, unless I think it will goad him into a stoopid mistake. Gotta agree with ya; fight on your own premises and what you think is fun/worthwhile, not how someone else wants you to fight.
Two tours ago, I flew extremely conservative for a while. K/D of 14.0 for a bit, then I got bored.
Now I'm placed around 3.6, and the flying is a combination of some sorties carefully, some sorties no care at all (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif).
But, ya gotta admit, when you reverse and kill the kill is so much sweeter.
And some of my BEST sorties have been when I have not fired a single round, but constantly been on the defensive, dodging left and right and making it home.

But I am frustrated when people run - sure I am. YThen again, if the con had an e advantage, and disengages, I consider it a half victory. All depends on perspective. I'll ask the guy to turn back, but won't whine about it if I don't get an answer.

I love people that complain about the way I killed them. It cracks me up every time I hear it.
I pity the person that gets on private coms and tries to tell me how I should have engaged them. They will be privy to some not-so-nice words.
I don't criticize the enemy for the way they fly. Why should I? I do notice what does and doesn't work.. and try to impliment it myself if I can.
So.. when I dive for ack... or when I turn to HO you as you are gaining on me 3k back... or as I bounce you while you are already engaged... or as I respawn 100 times... or as I straff you OTR... or as I launch AP rounds at your panzer as you respawn in the vh... or as I ignore you and go for the low c47/m3... or as I run from a fight... or whatever. Sit back and say what you want. Just don't try to tell me how to do it differently.

Call me crazy but I like to win engagements because I outflew and outshot my opponent, not because I climbed a lot more before engaging. A trained chimp can do that.

Its not about being higher....its about flying smarter...the 51 has its strengths...it rates a turn better than most other aircraft in the game if flown correctly. You seem to think that seeking the advantage means not engaging...my point is that if someone is in a spit and I dont have cornering velocity, well, I'm not going to offer myself for sacrifice just to make my opponent feel good (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I like the nik and P47 here. and the ki84 in WB, because they BnZ, and if need be, can turn fight with the best of them. I would guess it suits my nature.
I have flown some sorti,s the way you describe above. Its just to easy to get kills and go home. IMHO its just another form of vulching. For me it got boering quick. However its your game also. And I say play it any way you want.

I agree with about everything you say ICE.
If you fly the 51, you need to fly it smart. It isnt the first choice for turnfighthing. Anyone who has done any research about real WWII dogfighting knows that real turnfights were avoided. Pilots of WWII prefered to hit and run, boom and zoom. They had more at stake than a K/D ratio, they had their lives at stake.
In AH, neither you or anyone else pays his money so he can be a target, or play how someone else wants him to. You pay to play your way. As long as you arent ackstarring (and you are obviously not), I say play your own way.
When someone belittles a 51 or 190 driver for only fighting from an advantage, I figure they are either poor losers, or dont understand much about smart flying in the game and an airplanes strengths and weaknesses.

After you guys left (I think), I engaged LLB and raked him across the top. Didn't draw blood though and lost the E advantage I had. I decided discretion the part and was headed home with him trying to catch me.
I had already lost one gun and LLB lit up the radio with his incessant "run chickenshit" goading.
After all the crap I had put up with from RAM, I decided to see about shutting this guy up. Bad decision. I turned on him and he went for alt. I tried to get one shot in but just couldn't hold the aim that I needed to kill him.
Next thing I knew, he was diving down - guns blazing. I lost parts and ended up dying.
So that's it for me. I will always play to the strengths of the plane I am flying and will not let the losers try to goad a response. It got me killed. They can call me chickenshit all they want for exiting the fight.
I played into his hand and lost. Lesson learned. My advice to anyone on the receiving end of jerks who like to berate over the open channel is to ignore them. Fly it your way and realize that they are only trying to sucker you in.
Basically these guys vent as a tactic. Pay it no attention and don't take it personal. Just hunt them down and show them no mercy. It's another case of I can't kill you while you fly smart so I'll get you to fly dumb.
The crap about "runstangs" and "alt monkeys" is only because they are at a disadvantage. Exploit it.

You didnt turn so whats the problem? If you had you would have got to check out the sunset from the tower.
Look at it from my POV. I'm at a base with about 20 cons with alt from both countries. Most of my ROOK brethern were 5k or lower. I used whatever advantage I can to turn the tables. You didnt turn and Renfield did. Was outnumbered 9-2 by allies while flying KI-84 last night in WB Historical Arena (no enemy icons till D17). Up against F6F's, F4U's, P40's and Spit 5's. Following this rule with great discipline and avoiding temptation to fur ball or be drawn into engagement by channel 100 whiners, managed 3 sorties with all safe landings, resulting in 7 kills and 3 assists.

LLB, you should realize that whatever your tactics, calling people names and goading like you do does a disservice to the sim and to the community. It isn't a question of PC or not.
I got tired of hearing it and turned. Ice was smarter and didn't. I won't in the future and will be making more use of the squelch command.
I only posted here so that others would know that it is more than OK to not respond to the kind of whining crap that you and a few others are resorting to.
You guys that whine and squeak and expect your opponents to hold still for you to kill them or give you the advantage when you entered combat without it are hurting the sim.
I tried it your way and it was obvious, and you now admit, that all you were doing was trying to provoke the stupid move. But it is a lame way to do it.
The squeaking in the arena is way over the top these days. The guys that whine about the HO's, whine about leaving a fight after losing advantage, etc. are driving the good players away.
If you could enter a fight with advantage (i.e. not launch from a capped field, choose your target, and use good strategy and ACM) then you wouldn't need to squeak, complain, and call names.
If you think calling someone names to get them to give you a kill is good ACM, you are sadly mistaken. Go play Quake - it suits your attitude much better.

I had 3 tail numbers as i had an account with Delphi, Geni and Concentric trying for the best connect and rate. As back then you had to pay by the hour for ISP & hourly for AW DOS.
