Title: Auto-Film
Post by: Heinkel on June 07, 2002, 08:25:39 PM
Quick suggestion:

How about everytime you up in a Plane/GV/Buff/Boat, as soon as the sortie start's, AH automatically start's filming. Then, when you end your sorite, you will recieve a message like

"Would you like to keep this film?"

Yes, would save it to your HD, no would delete it.

There are a lotta times where i wish i filmed somthing, but i didnt. Just an idea

Thanks and

no offense or anything..but alt-r is pretty easy to key up,, even mid fight. ANd what about those hour long alt grabbing sorties?  it is better to turn the recorder on when you get to the fight, rather than hunting through a long arsed film looking for that one cool moment.

i do, however, see the reason you would want this feature.  Many a time i have been in a great fight and once back in the tower (after dieing a pathectic death as usual) i wish i would have turned the recorder on.

just make the film recorder part of your SA.  Film goes on...film goes off.

This is a pretty good idea.

Anyone ever go on one of those forever alt-grabbing missions, turn the Film on then forget and turn it off in the middle of a fight?? lol

Auto-record options:

[ ] toggle auto-record on takeoff
[ ] toggle auto-takeoff (edit: that's auto-record, not auto-takeoff) on trigger (while trigger is pulled for guns, untill weapon hits or times out if rocket or bomb)
[ ]disable auto-record.

Guncams would be fun like this.

Would love to see a true guncam that photographs the sight picture when you pull the trigger, and puts all the trigger time for a sortie on one reel.

A good thing is good, but better is more than a single good thing.
Having the choice between more than one (even only two) guncam view (ammo's arado film for example) would please more players.
[tangent]
The option to record automaticaly to different folders would be useful too, 1000's of film to sort through once offline...

Try the Java Guncam (http://www.errthum.com/troy/warbirds/).  It will work with any DirectX game using DirectInput.  The program will take a series of screenshots only when you press the trigger on your joystick.  Afterwards, you only need a program that will convert the screenshot .jpg files into a .gif animation or an .avi movie clip.

I recommend Animagic GIF.  Fast, and free.

funked, I used to have a Joystick..  Gravis Firebird II I think it was.  You could program each button like you can most, but this is the only stick I've ever seen that you could also program the button to do something when you released the button.  I don't know if there's anything around that will do that anymore.

I have been doing this with my trigger since I purchased my Thrustmaster F22 Pro in late 1997.  You can do this with the Thrustmaster Cougar as well!

:D

Cool!  I'm gonna wait out the Cougar for awhile.  Price is bound to come down a little and I'm too stuck to FF right now anyway.. but I do miss that feature.

I think it's a good idea.  Moving back and forward in the film viewer causes strange things to happen so having a film per flight would make it more managable.

I was thinking of doing this with my Cougar.  If the film is on, when you start engines, the film would stop and start again.  If I get it to work, I will post the code if anyone is interested.

How an option to have the camera record when you fire your weapons like the real gun-cams in addition to the Alt-R?  Just a thought.

Or a gun-cam view of the film.  =)

Qnm, I started in the beta.  My original UBB login "funked" got corrupted last year.  Ronni kindly offered to reinstate it but I had already created a new account so I stuck with it.
