It starts off great. Your roommate wakes you up early to see if ya want to hit the lake for a couple of hours of fishing. Yes you say as you hop out of your bed. You have your shorts, shirt, cap and shoes on in 30 seconds flat. You gas up the boat, buy ice and drinks. Get on the road and drive to the lake. As you get 1 mile away from the lake you see a cop w/ a detour sign. He tells you that the road is closed until 1:30 pm so you pull up to U-turn at the gas station there. You get out to move the baracade cones so your roommate can pull into the station lot. Then you have that wonderful realization. You remember hearing that the lake is closed until 1:00 for some STUPID IDIOT TRIATHALON!!!
Too late and too far away from any of the other area lakes so you go home after spending 1 hour and $20....

Udie,
About the only way to salvage that day is to stop at the gas station, get a piece of cardboard and a permanent marker and write "no peeing in the lake" on it. Then stand there at the start of the triathalon and flip everyone off while you drink a Pabst.

How about this:
I wake up in 8:00 o’clock in the morning by a phone call and some stupid squeak is trying to sell me diddlying news paper. That entire day went down the drain. I'm still pissed about it
Ps Usually I wake up at 11-12, not 8. May I add that conversation didn’t go very well for her.

How about you get up at 0700 and your 12-year-old Lab, a true friend and companion in the house, on walks, traveling and in the fields while hunting is simply dying of old age?
Can't walk anymore, can barely drink, won't eat even if you offer perfectly cooked steak (and I have), listless, eyes sunken, got the continual runs despite three prescriptons medications for the problem, lost 8 pounds in the last two weeks.
Her body is just shutting down and I think her time is measured in hours, possibly days and (very unlikely) at most a week.
Yes, I am sorrowful and yes this bothers me.
Although probably not as much as having unbalanced sides in an online video game.
She's a true friend and I will miss her deeply.
So, how was your day again?

I think Toad wins...or loses. :( At least she's had a long life, but still must be hard to see her go.

I’m very sorry to hear that Toad. :(
It’s not right, the life of a dog should not be so short.
-
Ya toad.. its rough to watch the dogs go. What amazes me is how you seem to wake up one day and realize the dog is really old. I have two that just turned 11... they'll be there soon too. :(

Toad:
I just walked around the house...I hugged the dog (age 3) and got licked in the face lovingly...I squeezed Mokey (1 yr old Tuxedo cat) and managed a purr....and did the same to Pugdy (6 month old cat) and he promptly ran for his life (hehe tard...)...its moments like these where you know someday you'll loose them, and wonder what you'll do without them. My fellas are such a part of my daily routine, and play a huge role as "comic relief".
Now...I'll tackle the litter box :D
Seriously, my heart goes out to you Toad.

She had a good life. I don't think she or I have any regrets over how we spent her time here.
I am saddened, yes. But none of us knows "for whom the bell tolls" or when "Man Above" will give a tug on our personal bell ropes.
I posted merely as a matter of supplying a little perspective while I am, admittedly, in a bit of a maudlin mood.
So, I encourage you to go out today and DO WHAT YOU REALLY WANT TO DO. Have Fun. Love the ones you're with. Smile at your kids and laugh with them. Pet your old dog.
Somebody may be about to tug your bell rope.
Carpe Diem...... and ENJOY it!
Best to all of you!

sry Toad
Couple more years and my Akida mix will be there.
A good dog is the best.
I believe you will see her again & she'll be 100%

:( ..Sorry to hear that Toad.

Well, all the tests are back.
A tumor the size of a soft ball attached either to the liver or the spleen. Operable and maybe benign because the "big ones usually are".
However, blood work shows that she is also pretty far into kidney failure and her liver is failing as well but slower.
Odds of surviving an operation for the tumor under these kidney and liver conditions are poor.
Odds of curing the liver problem: Poor. Could possibly extend her life if it wasn't for the tumor pressing in on her stomach and intestines to the point that she won't eat.
Odds of curing the kidney problem: None. They don't do kidney transplants in dogs anyway. Could possibly extend her life a few days up to a few months with intensive treatment. Of course, the tumor also works against this scenario.
Nothing to be done.
Tomorrow I will take her to the vet. I will lay her down under the same pine that sheltered her "aunt", my first Lab in her final moments. I will euthanize her the same way I did my first Lab, with the vet watching. I don't let anyone put down my dogs but me.
I can no longer type through my tears. I dread the sunrise for the first time in many years.
Cyas later.

Ouch, watching your friend die in front of you. :(
-
Ah sheeesh, Toad, now you got ME crying. I know how much you love that dog, and my heart goes out to you and your pooch.
<> Bud, may God Bless you and yours.

Toad, brother, I ain't got the words
Don't even know if the words exist
Yer on prayer list bro

In my younger years, no problem. Me and my (she was far out) x would have simply droped a hit of acid and enjoyed the country side. Maybe just watch the local news for an hour and trip.

If you remember hearing about it before Saturday, then I don't think it was the triathlon that was stupid that morning...
Best way to salvage the day would've been to grab a chair and spectate the lake exit near the bike transition zone. Ever see Sophia Loren in "Boy On A Dolphin", Bo Derek in "Tarzan" or Julie Warner in "Doc Hollywood"? Like water nymphs in the early morning mist, the female competitors emerge fresh and clean from the purifying lake waters. You could've ogled the lovely ladies who can run farther and faster than you. :)
