Title: Flat LCD monitors??
Post by: Maverick on June 09, 2002, 01:45:41 PM
Anyone have any experiance with these?? I will be going to a much smaller house (full time RV) when the wife retires. My current 17" monitor is really too large to keep in the new digs. M concerns are piture quality and gaming capability. I know from my laptop experiances that the LCD isn't the clearest of fastest screen out there but it might have improved. I see quite a few 17" LCD monitors being advertised and the price is dropping.

Thanks.

I have an NEC LCD1700M+ (about same size as my 19" monitor).  I find the picture quality actually better than my Trinitron.  Warm up times are faster (almost instant) and it's much more maneagable.

I haven't found a real downside to the monitor yet... well... except the price.

I have the viewsonic va800,  it has its plusses and minusis.

the big drawback is the price, and the refresh rates.  for half the money i could have got a crt monitor with higher rez and almost double the refresh rates at the rez I'm running.

the big plus for me is you can get the image detail in in-game shadows and other dark areas without turning up the brightness so high as to wash out the colors.

also room lighting and open windows only give you a very slight glare.  instead of bright glare and clear reflections of windows and lightbulbs behind you like you get off the glass in a crt screen.
so you don't have to turn off the lights, close the shades and basicly live in the dark like a troll to play a game.
