My fiancée is attending this year's Summer Session Program of the International Space University, to be held this year in Pomona, CA.
We are not sure about the Voltage for the household appliances: Is it 220V/50Hz or 125V/60Hz?

everything in the US is 110 or 220 as far as I know....

Don't even bother bringing electric appliances to California. President Bush and his fat cat energy trading Texas buddies from Enron have ripped us off in the sacred cow conservative names of "deregulation" and "free enterprise."
Now most Californians can no longer afford luxuries like television, electric lights and blenders. Have you ever tried to blend a Pina Colada without electricity?
BTW, you might want to buy your fiancee a motorcycle helmet and a Kevlar vest if she's attending a summertime conference in Pomona. The vest for protection against drive-by shooters, and the motorcycle helmet for protection against falling debris due to the frequent earthquakes.

Aren't you glad you went Solar back in the 70's Elf? I was never able to get my blueprints from Mother Jones though.

Yes Udie, the question is if it's in the 110-125 range or the 220-240 range.
In Spain we only have 220V, so the doubt is if she has to buy some dual voltage appliances or if she can use the ones she already has.
Elfenwolf, luckily they won't be stepping out of CalPoly Pomona but for a trip to JPL :) The Summer Session Program is quite intensive.

Most of the U.S uses 110vac for regular appliances such as a hair dryer, kitchen blender, toaster, microwave, cat torturer, a stereo, tv or vcr, etc etc (and the TV's here recieve the NTSC signal. Not PAL!)
The LARGER home applicance such as large dish washers, refrigerators, clothes dryer or stove can (and usually do) use 220vac.

I think 110 (117) is the standard everywhere in the U.S. for most household appliances. There are a few states I haven't been to so I can't say for 100% sure though I can for California.

US standard is 60 Hz
220 for major apliances (stove, clothes dryer)
110 for lighting, and virtually everything else

LOL Sikboy, in 1978 I quit my job in San Francisco, sold my home in Marin County, bought a 4x4 and moved into an old cabin in the middle of the redwoods in northern Mendocino County. All we had was 12-volt power, and between the constant rainfall in the winter and our inability to grasp simple electronics we sat around in the dark, mostly.
It was early during the second winter while I was trying to find a space big enough for me to lay down in without getting dripped on from the leaky roof, stomach growling because the roads were impassable during heavy rains, not having had a hot shower in a month that I vowed to never ever again live more than three blocks from a 7-11.
That back-to-the-land stuff is highly overrated, IMO.

I found that you have to import your cat torturer from central Europe if you want a real effective one. And then you have to get the adaptor for it to work at 110.

Oh please :( 220Volts has much more "varumMm.." as well as it usually gives much more in the way of savory results ! ;)

I tried that, but it was just too much. I was going through 5 cats an hour. The local pound was getting suspicious, so I had to go back to 110.

I'd like to say that I'd kill you for trying to put my cat in one of those!!!
But he'd probably rather do it himself! It takes him aproximately 3 seconds to de-skin a human arm and another 5 seconds to de-flesh the bone :D

60hz is most important number.
but most everything is 110. all wall jacks will be 110 except for you dryer/stove etc..........
