Title: Nforce Mobo w 98/XP dual boot ?
Post by: DAVENRINO on June 11, 2002, 01:43:21 PM
I am putting an A7N266-C in my Guam puter.  Would like to set up  a dual boot with 98/XP.  I have heard that this mobo doesn't really like 98 but have read bout many with 98SE installed on it.  I only have copies of 98 and ME (didn't like ME).  Is the original 98 with all updates essentially the same as 98SE?  Gonna try my first build for Hawaii puter below. Any suggestions?

2100 XP
A7N266-C
XP Home (or Pro)???
2 x 512 Crucial
Leadtech GF4 4400
2x Seagate 40GB
Plextor 40x12x40
Antec 1080B plus w 430 PSU
AX7 heatsink

Some folks have gotten 98se to run on nForce boards.  When I first put my box together I put 98se on it.  After 5-6 BSOD's while trying to install all the drivers (always on the shutdown or boot up) I started over, wiped it clean, and went with win2k.

But the nForce boards do not like anything before 2k

I wouldn't try win98.  Win2k (or probably XP) are what I would recommend.

OK I am convinced.  It is prolly not worth the hassle for a few 98 apps/games that I can prolly live without.
thanks for reply,
