Title: C.205 tips?
Post by: gofaster on June 12, 2002, 10:35:24 AM
I started flying the C.205 last night, just shopping different planes to see what they can do.  I like the C.205 and learned some things about it last night:

(a) good speed, good climb, good turn.  Reminds me of the 109G2 in overall performance but doesn't seem to compress as bad and feels a little lighter in handling.  Seems to have bigger ammo load and fuel capacity.

(b) can outturn everything but the Spitfire (all marks), F6F, Yak, LaGGs, and Zeroes.  Might be able to outturn a N1K but I didn't get opportunity to fly against that model very often last night.

(c) guns seem to have low muzzle velocity - takes forever for bullet to travel the distance to a target, and that makes gunnery very tricky.

(d) visibility is limited because of the canopy framing and small cockpit.

Does anybody have any tips on flying this plane?

Gotta love that camo paint job! :)

Looks like you've pretty well got it figured out.

Doesn't do a sustained turn as well as spit or nik, but you can suprise them if you have E.

Good guns but like you said, slower rate of fire, and muzzle velocity. Lots of ammo, this is one of my fav things about this bird.

Come high to the fight, watch for easy kills.
Planes already engaged, planes limping home wounded, etc.

It dives much better than the 109's and turns a bit better. Watch out for the La's & yaks, they'll eat you.

205 is VERY popular in the CT for desert setups.
That desert camo maks it very hard to spot down low. Bit tougher to survive in the MA envoirment.

My most kills per single sortie was in a 205 vulching a small field. They just kept coming up. :)

When you get tired of the poor view try moving up to the yak.

couple things to add to 205 knowledge base for you. 1st...burn your wing tank fuel at start. This will greatly increase roll rate and handling. 2nd map your primary fire just to the 20mm. I dont use the mg's cept to herd goons etc. The 205 is a great ride till you run out of E. Just dont go more than a 1/2 circle with any of the knife fighters (zero, nikki, spit, hurricane). You can push harder on the 109,F6,Ki,yak and la-7 and hogs ponys tiffies etc cant turn with you (obviously pilot quality comes into play). Keep it at 20k or less and it's a sweet bird.

I like to always use both the 12.7mms and the 20mms, since on the 202 12.7s are your biggest weapon, so they can't hurt to use them on the 205. It does turn pretty well, but Spits can be a handful. I can't really tell how fast and how well it accelerates, but is pretty quick. If it had a ground attack capability I would use nothing besides the C.205, becuase it seems pretty tough. The Macci is always my backup when I don't know what to fly.

205 CAN be used to strafe vehicles, just come in as steep an angle as you can

Updating this thread.

I flew the C.205 in AH2 over the weekend and fell in love with it all over again.  I still hate the guns but now I know that I need to get in close to hit, and all it takes is a couple of hits to knock off a target's wing(s).  The C.205 is surprisingly fast and agile.  The MG's still suck but the cannons are effective inside d400, or even d600 if you can hit anything from that range.

If only someone would skin it with the markings for the Co-Belligerent forces (the usual Italian red-white-green roundels).

I am traditionally A Bf109 fanatic, I love it in all it's variants.  I have however looked into this Italian plane and it has it's merrits.:D

I agree with all the above. I would add that it seems slow to come over the top in a loop, or to transition in a stall. I love the 205!

Ever notice the gunsight is a little out of round?..Who can fix that. Doesn't matter which sight you use.

I like its acceleration.  Makes leaving a fight thats heading south quick and usually painless.

Niki turns the same as a Spit 8 without flaps. Turns better with. So careful around those guys.

why would u want to follow the idiot who's doing a spiraling dive, I would just simply either pull up and wait for him to finish then cherry pick  them or I would cut throttle and drop a notch of flaps and coast down behind them until I got a firing solution, in the MA that's not very smart, you do that dive and every LA7 and there brother are gonna follow u to the deck and make your life very miserable, deck is not the place to be in that ride unless your a very good stick. I think the 205 is a good ride, not great, but it's fun. It doesn't really excell at anything IMHO, but it can definately be a fun ride with all them cannons to spare
