Title: MH-130 Crash in Afghanistan
Post by: Hortlund on June 12, 2002, 02:26:38 PM
Damn...

A U.S. military plane crashed in eastern Afghanistan on Wednesday, killing an unknown number of soldiers on board, military officials told NBC News. According to the officials, the MH-130 special forces plane had just taken off from an airfield at Gardez when it crashed into a nearby mountain.

THE OFFICIALS said there was no sign of hostile fire and that the cause of the crash was unknown. It’s not clear whether the crew on board radioed a mayday before the crash. The special forces plane carried 11 personnel from the Army and the Air Force.

What's MH mean? Is it a specialized armor/troop transport?

How incredibly sad. We lose the best and the brightest of our children when we have wars. My condolances for the mothers, fathers, wives and children of the victims of this terrible tragedy.

My guess is that the journalist doesnt really know how to write the correct name. It should probably be MC-130H not MH-130.

MC-130H: Primary Function Infiltration, exfiltration and resupply of special operations forces.

My brother's best friend is over there.. Bob Doty. Loadmaster on one of those. He's 49 years old.. 3 kids. Used to have a real job, but now, he has only one job. Air National Guard. I met him when he and his unit came up here to Long Island 5 years back to help put out a massive wildfire. He showed me how to make a Potato Gun, and we drank many beers....

Hope he's ok.

It ain't just 'children' in that fight.
