if you ever had a WW2OL account and want to try out 1.6.4.....
Following the release of v1.5 we began a limited-time program titled 'Welcome Back Soldier' in which we welcomed all former account holders back to have a look at the improvements made to the game. With the successful release of v1.6 we are bringing it back.
Starting at approximately 1700ET Friday, June 14th and ending June 28th, all accounts which were closed prior to June 12th, 2002 will be re-activated for access to the game and forums. This does not apply to banned accounts.
We are announcing the program through our press relations and contacting closed account holders via E-mail to let them know about the free play time but we need your help. Some former players have changed their E-mail addresses and we cannot contact them. If you know of a player who has a closed account, we urge you to contact them and let them know about the program.
Feel free to post this information to your favorite forums, submit it to your most visited news sites or E-mail it directly to your buddies who no longer play the game.

Thanks for the heads up.
Out of curiosity (and also because I'm unable to post the question there as I'm not a WWIIO subscriber even though I have a working Playnet logon) what payment plans does CRS offer? Do they permity personal checks or money orders?

If you have a checking account, get a debit card. They cost nothing, and they work just like a credit card.
-
they work just like a credit card
Except for the small detail that they TAKE MONEY OUT OF YOUR CHECKING ACCOUNT. :)
-
CC that funked. But if you have no credit card, well its the next best thing. Just make sure you have 10 bucks in your acct when the bill date comes. :)
-
Better than a credit card, in that you aren't spending money you don't have. ;)

Welcome Back Soldier
Heh. Sounds like a sign over a potato house door.
Do you sell Amway too? :D

Funkedup hit the nail on the head :)
I do appreciate the reply though Blkmgc. I've had a debit card since 1985 and they are invaluable imo. I hardly ever use the credit cards now and rarely do I take any $$ out at an atm either.

CC same here K west. I have a lamo,no frills checking acct set up with a debit card which I use only for internet crap/online games. It rarely sees 75 bucks, so if someone wanted to go through the hastle of hacking it...they would'nt get much. I think there is something like a 4$/month service charge for it.
Also a great place to stick cash when i want to buy something...then explain it later to the resident CO. ;)

I pre-ordered the game last spring. I had a beta account back then, so the game box and CD numbers are still unopened and never been used. I would like to try it again. However, I only have 56k in my area. Is it possible to request and receive the current CD?

Looks like Westy and few other AH'ers want to give WW2OL a try. Maybe I'll shell out the money and finally give it a go. Being a loner in MMOG isnt always fun... if there are enough of us from AH testing this, maybe we could set up a time to get together during the free trial?

Rats will also be allowoing a 2 week freebie..with no need for an account. I dont know when that begins..but if like last time..you simply d/l a full install of the latest version, log in some generic CD key code and play. Will post when it comes up.

I'm so sorry, please disregard my question!
My first impressions were that you were part of CRS and here to help folks who bought the “40 Dollar Beta Gold CD” last year.
-
the advantage here is that if you have the unused CD key...you get a free month of play instead of 2 weeks. :) Just set up your acct using your Cd key....no?
-
CRS:
please, please, PLEASE! try us again! we suck less now! really!
-
and what exactly are they allegedly claiming is better in that version?

That’s so true, as well as only getting one chance to make a first impression.

This (http://www5.playnet.com/screens/1000/14862/wwiiol_018.jpg) screenie is from the current WWIIOnline and still shows one of my two main complaints with the game. In this screen shot we show some poor schmuck, who really should be able conceal himself quite well behind the bush, is quite exposed. Had the good soul with the MG not popped him, a panzer that was only visible as a dot to the poor schmuck no doubt would have. When I played the game (And I loved the tanks!) I never felt I could hide. This does not seem to have changed.
The other thing that, from day one I thought would be a fatal flaw for a combined arms sim, was that you can't get out of the d**m vehicles. For me the game would be far more fun if I could get a halftrack from the vehicle shed, load up a PAK, drive off somewhere until *I* find a place I like, unload the PAK, hide the halftrack, hoof it back to the PAK....
WWIIOnline is a noble effort and I plan to give it a try during my free two weeks (while waiting for 1.10). But I can't imagine that enough has changed for me to budget my time for it in the long term.

The inf guy is beyond where the bush enters the ground. Why should he be invisible.? I hope you dont think CRS should model each blade of grass(where did a put that damn Cray):)
As for vehicles..since about 1.30..there are two vehicles pools that can be drained. One is for Rank. Enought rank and you can get anything from that pool at any spawn point. The other is Mission Pool. To open that pool up you must take someones mission, that mission pool must have stuff left. You can "shop" missions. One will be empty of good stuff but another one can be full. If you have no rank, and do not take a mission, your selection can become the pure contested pool. Inf, one AT and one truck.
Hope this helps.

Debit cards shouldn't be used for online purchases. For the majority of debit cards there is no way to escape your liability if someone decides to use your debit account w/o your authorization. Your only recourse to recover lost funds is through the judicial system since your bank most likely will not cut you any slack at all.

It was the closest I could get to illustrate my point. Obviously I did not do it well... So let me tell you a story:
Once upon a time, when I was playing and enjoying a certain game (which was for various reasons was released far to early but I tried to make allowances for that) I was sitting around in a Panzer III. I happened to have the gun sight (which was modeled so as to have perfect optics) pointed in the direction of a bush something over 500 yards away. Suddenly I noticed a enemy infantry laying on the ground attempting to sneak a peek around the edge of a large bush. However, due to the rigid infantry model, the poor fellow had to expose over 1/2 of his body around the edge of the bush in order to get even a glance my tank. I watched him for a bit and he disappeared from sight, then he appeared again on the other side of the bush, again crawling on his belly, attempting to best of his ability to remain concealed, but again failing utterly. A quick burst from the coax mg ended his mission.
So no, I don't expect CRS to model every blade of grass, but I do expect some sort of visual attenuation over distance that allows infantry to have some hope of hiding. Nothing in the images available on their website, the linked one included, gives me any reason to believe that is now the case.
-
i always wanted the inf body to "break up" with distance..so that, mayve half a leg, an arm other part would be modeled but not a complete body to simulate inf lying in the grass, maybe no head..etc.

Sorry CRS software, dont think I can make it.
