Title: In a Corsair, which guns are my primaries?
Post by: gofaster on June 13, 2002, 08:45:26 AM
Corsair has 6 guns in pairs: inboard, middle, and outboard.  Which ones are my primary guns and which are my secondary?  What I'd like to do is have the primaries set at a farther convergence for "spotting" my lead and then have the secondaries set closer to drill the target.  But which guns are which?

Go to the TA, go on the runway, external view.
Fire primarys only, see which ones are primary.

Ok, next question: how do I get to the external view?

F3, Then F8 to go into Pan & use view keys to adjust your viewing angle. (F1 to return to internal view).

(Only works offline and in TA, Bombers only in MA)

Now that you already figured it out probably...
F4u has primarys outboard opposite of the Mustang where the inboard are the primary guns.

Yep, I learned that last night about the Corsair, but didn't know it was different for the Mustang.  Thanks for telling me - I figured all 6x.50 cal gun arrangements were set up the same.

Nope they're different. I wonder if it is a Navy , Air Force [Or AAF back then] thing.  Navy planes have the primary outboard, F4u and F6f, while the 51 has primary inboard. I believe the P47 has its inboards as primary also but I don't have enough Jug time to remember [confirmed, P47's primary are inboard also].
There is a 'Select Primary' weapon like secondary but when I tried that , the results I got were sooooo waacky I never do it ingame.

How do you 'Select Primary'?

No, it's an AH thing, considering that real P-51D's only have but a single trigger on the control stick and have their guns charged prior to taking off (in other words they lacked the ability to fire individual sets of guns).

AH's gun set system is designed for player convienience, not for realism.  I'd venture to suggest that the F4U's and P-51 have different setups because they have different ammo loads.

Per The AH manual [I know.. the 'what'??] :
SELECT PRIMARY WEAPON [\]

I didn't want to answer this too fast, as it was easy to figure out.

On the cockpit instrument panel, you'll see two readouts in the upper left (I think that's where it is) that shows "MG" and then "450" or whatever in one square, and "MG" and "750" or whatever below that.  Your primaries are the upper display and the secondary/alternate load is the lower display.

My joystick is set up so that the trigger fires only the primary weapon, the 2nd joystick button fires only the secondary weapon (useful for dropping bombs and firing rockets) and the 3rd joystick button shoots both.
