Title: Tech question for Cougar Owners...
Post by: Sabre on June 13, 2002, 10:42:41 AM: I had my first on-line sortie in the new cockpit/cougar set up last night. Two kills and rtb’d safely. While soaking my right arm in ice water afterwards to reduce the pain and swelling (Man! Those springs are stiff!:D), I thought up a couple questions. First, thanks to Slap-shot, Revvin, and banana for their unwitting help – I drew from their config files or comments in my initial set up. Now to my questions. First, is anyone else experiencing any problems with the T-9/T-10 slider switch on the throttle? It seems…weird. When I push it in the T-10 direction, it is very hard to move and locks in the T-10 position until I pull it back to the center position. When I pull it to the T-9 position on the other hand it pulls easier (perhaps too easy, as there’s no feeling of moving past a detent like when going to the T-10 position), but doesn’t “stick” there. Instead if returns on it’s own to the neutral position. Is this how it’s supposed to operate?

Second, anyone know how to program the throttle function to engage WEP when moving past the upper detent to the full forward position? Thanks in advance.

That T9-T10 switch is the one that has "spd brake on/off", right?

If it was like mine, I had to push and pull very hard on it to get it to engage in either direction, but now it's getting smoother. Maybe you're just not pulling hard enough on it. At first I thought my slider was broken, but then I realized I was not applying great enough pressure. It's a weird slider, for sure. I use mine to open and close my bomb bay doors.

I've used the same number of programmed functions on my controls since I started with AH, which are relatively few. I have all the functions I need without using the /I and /O function for each button, nor do I even use the /U/M/D on that button on the throttle. So my profile is not nearly as complex as most people's.

I'm going to remove my detents from the throttle over the weekend. I prefer a smooth throttle action, and I use a button for WEP as I have for years.

I have it on very good authority (Zeb is a beta tester for the software) that the SpdBrk button only holds when pressed in.... if pulled out, it is supposed to go back to the central position when released. :)

banana: let me know how the "operation" goes. I may just go that route myself. I've been using a button for WEP and afterburner on my sims for years as well. Just want to try it this way first to see if I like it or not. There must be a way besides reprograming the throttle axis for digital operation.

NP :D Actually, I use that button to go to the bombsight - it opens the doors, looks through the bombsight and turns on the zoom as I push it in.... reversing the process as I pull it back out. ;)

Post by: Reschke on June 14, 2002, 12:34:20 PM: I don't have my WEP programmed into the upper throttle detent but instead am working on revising Revvin's profile that I have. I will be moving the WEP function to a different hat switch than what it is currently on. That is the easiest thing and it has always been that way for me. I am working on the different views for AH and IL-2 and hopefully will be able to use the same view profile in both games.

Post by: Revvin on June 14, 2002, 12:54:13 PM: Yes the T-10 should lock and the T9 not, I use it for WEP and also for bombing controls in my profile, I have it set up so you have to press T9 and then lock T10 to give you a norden view after pressing T6 to go to bombardier view (don't have them both tied to the same switch as I often like to sight the target out of the bombardier view on approach)

I used to have WEP on the throttle (one of the cooler features IMHO of being able to program an axis as analogue and digital at the same time) I took it off in the end because of what I was used to with other stick setups I had but if you want WEP on throttle then try this:

THR 5 1 (97 100) (/P WEP /R WEP)

This enables WEP at 97% of the throttle travel so you can either move your detent physically in the throttle or change the (97 100) part of the statement to move it further back down the throttle travel for instance (85 100)

Post by: SlapShot on June 14, 2002, 03:59:43 PM: I use the T10 and T9 for 1 notch of flaps down (T10) and 1 notch of flaps up (T9) ... used during Air-to-Air when I need that 1 notch to come over the top or during low speed knife fighting. I don't like tha action of T10 either ... seems to need way too much force to engage.

This is my throttle setting ... a little more involved than Revvins but works for me.
