Just an information question. Why is it that we don't have any ordinance options for the 262? I had thought the A version could carry bombs, and I've got photos of 262As armed with rockets. And I think I remember (although I could be wrong) that they could carry external fuel as well.
Since I've only been here about 8 months, I just wondered if there was some history to this of which I wasn't aware. I'm not sure I'd be inclined to use it as a JABO (pretty bloody expensive one!) but I'm thinking those rockets might be useful come 1.10!

The 262 had 24 rockets that fired all at the same time, these rockets were for bomber formations.
Even the 109's had rockets as well they woudl fire onto bomber formations, amybe something HT will think about with the new bomber formations he is having.

how'd you like to put this on your 262?
We need some system so we can spend extra perks for gun configurations like this.
The 262 below is armed with a 50mm.

Ordnance - weapons and such
Ordinance - something zoning boards worry about.
It's a common error you even hear it on vox.

We have these air to air rockets on 109's now.

i'd definetely want that 50mm cannon for me 262. I mean, WOW, you can actually kill with one shot. Both fighters, bombers AND vehicles. WOOT!
Wonder how much ammo it will have? 50 rnds?

Youre being sarcastic, right?
Anyways. You dont need aerial rockets when you have 4x 30mm
And who in his right mind will do JABO in the 262?

From what I read, 22 round capacity

Sounds fun... too bad the price is too high. :D

I want the Me 262 of Heinz Bar with 6x30mm :)

I thought I've read somewhere that the 50mm cannon installation on the Me262 was abandoned because the muzzle flash was so great it would blind the pilot.
-
I think R4M rockets should be included in the armament options...

The 50mm was abondoned (afaik) because the difficulty to hit with it. Even though it had a high velocity and pretty straight trajectory and one hell of a range (this was a former anti tank gun ya know) the low firing speed made it hard to aim with.
The main deal with it was, just like in the Me410, to take out bombers from very far away, around 1000 yards. In reality, this doesn't work. Had the pilots of WW2 had icons like we do in AH however, it would be a whole other thing. In AH this thing could waste buffs from 1.5 without much trouble (I think).
Besides, why would you need a 50mm when you have 4x30mm guns in your nose? :D
Edit: Only 2 262's were fitted with the 50mm gun, they were tested in combat. The "Watson Wizzers" test fired the 50mm on the ground and noticed that the recoil system was very effective as the plane hardly moved at all (which was also noticed by pilots who flew it). Same thing with the 30mm's.

Thanks Turbot for pointing out my terminology error--I guess the lack of sleep due to World Cup addiction is starting to tell! :D
That 50mm is only one of the big gun options that were tried, ranging from 40mm to a 75mm (ground-tested, never flown, I believe--that idea obviously moved over to the Henschel 129). Wilbus is right about the effectiveness of the recoil suppression on the 50mm, but also right about the reasons why it was abandoned.
I'd still like to see the R4Ms. I agree that 4 30mm are fine--when you are only attacking one or two planes. But with the larger formations we'll see in 1.10, you're going to want to try and break them up from a distance. Not that rockets will be any more effective in the MA than they were in real life, but they did kill, they were an option, and they also had (have?) a nice psychological effect on crews.

no im serious animal.
a 50mm has long range, thus you should be able to shoot from 2k distance (I hope). Now wouldnt that be grand? :D
