Title: question for Pentium users
Post by: -ammo- on June 14, 2002, 04:07:24 PM
If I was going to build an intel based computer for general use (not  neccesarily a gaming machine), what Motherboards would be a good foundation to build on. I am only concerened with P4 processors, 1.7 Gh or so. Is there boards out there similar to AMD based Nforce force boards, with good sound and goodvideo incorperated in them?  What type of memory is would I use?

Thx in advance!

There are no integrated video chipsets for the P4 that are even in the same class as the nForce for Athlons (integrated GF 2 Mx 400).  Intel refused to allow nVidia to produce a P4 chipset, so don't expect one in the near future either.

As for integrated sound, there are a few boards out there with decent integrated sound.

Hmmm.....The ASUS P4B266 is a solid motherboard, but the onboard sound chip has problems under Win2000 when running DX based games.
If you are not running DX games, then it seems to be ok.

This motherboard will not use the newer 533Mhz P4's, only the 400Mhz Northwood P4's.
