It is FUN to fly. Imagine that!
No, honest.. it really is. I haven't flown much for the past month or so, but I flew a really great sortie today in a Spit IX. The plane is just fun to fly.. that is all there is to it. So next time you start to want to squeak about it, just forget all the crap about how '1337' you are and how you are too good to fly a Spitfire and just fly one a few times. I can almost guarantee you'll come out happier at the end of the sortie than you were at the beginning. Well, at least if you get a good fight or two under your belt ( Supongo :) )
-
Completely agree with the above.
I've started flying the 9 and 14 a bit, and there are times that they make me laugh right out loud. If ANY E plane, and most the other angle fighters decide to turn with you, or make even the slightest error, you're ALL over them.
A Spit 9 with 3000 feet on anything is a hell of a lot of fun I must admit.
-
i feel like that, but only with the spit1. i feel nauseus flying the easymode-like spitv/ix ;)
-
Spit 5 and 9's are the only plane I've ever really stuck with since I started and for the exact same reason.
I don't care about the spitdweeb coments etc as I'm getting kills and having fun in the process. I just find that they suit me best overall compared to any other aircraft. My prefrence though goes to the Spit5 and take the 9 for it's drop tanks on longer hops.

Here comes the next big dick contest...
-
Amen, Urchin. Fly what's fun for you, and for me the Spit V is the most fun of any plane bar none. It seems to fit the way I fly perfectly.

Do I win?!

LOL!

oh gawd. thats the dreaded knit cellullite bomb. Note the famished rook in the background *G* :D
-
Can you please define what's fun for you, spit drivers?
-
Yeah!
Those of you found having either unauthorized or unapproved fun in AH will have their account charges DOUBLED!
So you spit drivers better be real careful out there.
Remember, the ONLY legitimate, approved fun is carefully defined by some other player on his own personal webpage... or maybe it's just defined in his own head or something.

I prefer the Spit V for popping Hurricanes who think they can outturn any Spit. :D

Spits are fun. If the fields were closer together I would fly em... Oh wait, that's what happened in the war.. nevermind.

I've never met a spit that didn't try to HO me. Gee I wonder why.
-
Spits are fun. You can have a great fight with the high bouncers. Just stay around and make them work for it.
Don't win a whole lot of those altercations but they sure are good fights.
And when you do win, you've created another spit hater
;)

I have found the key to being succesful against spits. Find the "Training Wheel Facility" in any of the three countries........bomb the snot out of it. This reduces the Spits uberness by at least 20%
:D

The aircraft that I have had my most enjoyable flights/fights in are:
Bf109G-2
Mosquito Mk VI
P-38L
Spitfire Mk V
Spitfire Mk IX

Urchin, you are a genius. Spits rule. :)
Although I'm flying Hurricanes now. :)
-
i just cant get over the pink tutu flight suit you gotta wear in order to fly umm.
I always figured the reason they performed so well was due to the pilots being so light in their britches.
I find hard to believe a fellow as manly as Urchin would disobey one Tanks golden rules "Spitfires are for Sissies".
who da thunk.........
:)

Bomb the Pampers factories in Germany and the LW pilot readiness is cut in half. ;)
-
"P51D does for 6 hours what the spitfire does for 45 minutes" Chuck Yeager, Discovery Wings channel, program about dogfighting, and he had a Big grin when he said it.
Any plane can be fun if you manage to win a few good fights and RTB.
-
Of hundreds of Spits I met, I could count only few that didn't try to HO me ;).
-
Yeah, but Hristo, anything that isn't a dead 6 o'clock shot is an HO, at least if you read this board.;)

I usually have fun in the Spitfire. I also like the Hurri IIC, in which I dispatch Spitfires without much trouble, if the pilot trys stallfighting instead of using his better speed and acceleration. The smart Spit pilots take the fight vertical where the Hurricane is a dog. The not-so-smart Spit pilots make level or descending turns and quickly die.
I'm not flying either type much this tour. Instead, I'm spending most of my time in the Yak-9U and P-51B. With the Yak, you can outrun anything you can't out-turn. It's a great platform for killing Mustangs, Typhoons, F4Us and all 190s.
My regards,
Widewing

Hristo it's a good (and historical) tactic when the LW has 5k alt advantage. :)
-
outrunning is an overrated tactic.

Now ask yourself why is "fun" to fly while hurries, C202, C205, La5, 109F, F4U1A, Ki61, P51B, etc seem to be "boring" planes.
Perhaps cause its guns? Perhaps cause its E retention? Perhaps cause its handling? Unperk the Tempest and all the people will find it very "fun" to fly also.

As well I could count only a very few 190s, 110s, F4Us, N1Ks, P47s, P38s... (eh, needles to name almost every plane in AH ) that didn't try to HO me ;)
That`s not about the plane ...

The Spoits are very fun, especially the V.
-
But the most fun of all is taking me fat bastard JUG down into a swirling melee of spit drivers and opening up with eight 50 cal. garden hoses as ya punch your way through. Ya kinda feel like your flying a combine..... No I take that back, the most fun is listening to them whine and call ya a vulching dweeb afterwards :D
Avid - The Vulching Dweeb

Even more fun than that is to go tearing through a spit/nik furball in a Tiffy, taking snap shots and watching tails and wings pop off with one hit :D Cherry picking is fun too ya know ;)
-
I like flying Spitfires in Aces high because, omg, I liked Spitfires before I even knew what Aces High was!!! imagine that... :)
I also like USN planes, but they don't fit my flying style much. Hellcats are fun though. Looking forward to the Wildcat and FM-2!
-
I'm with you Nifty... I liked Spitfires long before there were home computers.
I sure am lucky to have so many elite aces/real men here to inform me of my wrongful ways.
-
Spitfires are the best, natch! Though Hurri's are fun also.
