Title: I've found the secret to the Spitfire popularity!

No, honest.. it really is. I haven't flown much for the past month or so, but I flew a really great sortie today in a Spit IX. The plane is just fun to fly.. that is all there is to it. So next time you start to want to squeak about it, just forget all the crap about how '1337' you are and how you are too good to fly a Spitfire and just fly one a few times. I can almost guarantee you'll come out happier at the end of the sortie than you were at the beginning. Well, at least if you get a good fight or two under your belt ( ~~Supongo :) )~~

I've started flying the 9 and 14 a bit, and there are times that they make me laugh right out loud. If ANY E plane, and most the other angle fighters decide to turn with you, or make even the slightest error, you're ALL over them.

A Spit 9 with 3000 feet on anything is a hell of a lot of fun I must admit.

Post by: Gixer on June 15, 2002, 08:27:10 PM: Spit 5 and 9's are the only plane I've ever really stuck with since I started and for the exact same reason.

I don't care about the spitdweeb coments etc as I'm getting kills and having fun in the process. I just find that they suit me best overall compared to any other aircraft. My prefrence though goes to the Spit5 and take the 9 for it's drop tanks on longer hops.

So you spit drivers better be real careful out there.

Remember, the ONLY legitimate, approved fun is carefully defined by some other player on his own personal webpage... or maybe it's just defined in his own head or something.

I prefer the Spit V for popping Hurricanes who think they can outturn any Spit. :D

Don't win a whole lot of those altercations but they sure are good fights.

And when you do win, you've created another spit hater

I always figured the reason they performed so well was due to the pilots being so light in their britches.

Any plane can be fun if you manage to win a few good fights and RTB.

I usually have fun in the Spitfire. I also like the Hurri IIC, in which I dispatch Spitfires without much trouble, if the pilot trys stallfighting instead of using his better speed and acceleration. The smart Spit pilots take the fight vertical where the Hurricane is a dog. The not-so-smart Spit pilots make level or descending turns and quickly die.

I'm not flying either type much this tour. Instead, I'm spending most of my time in the Yak-9U and P-51B. With the Yak, you can outrun anything you can't out-turn. It's a great platform for killing Mustangs, Typhoons, F4Us and all 190s.

Perhaps cause its guns? Perhaps cause its E retention? Perhaps cause its handling? Unperk the Tempest and all the people will find it very "fun" to fly also.

As well I could count only a very few 190s, 110s, F4Us, N1Ks, P47s, P38s... (eh, needles to name almost every plane in AH ) that didn't try to HO me ;)

I also like USN planes, but they don't fit my flying style much. Hellcats are fun though. Looking forward to the Wildcat and FM-2!
