Title: Armour Collection
Post by: Monk on June 16, 2002, 02:00:58 PM
Anybody have, or seen 1/48 Armour Collection Plane models. I'm thinking about buying some, and wondering about the quality.
Thx.

Armour Collection aint the same anymore.  They sold out to Franklin Mint.  Any new pieces have the Franklin Mint price tag on them and any of the old Armour pieces that you find are jacked up on price because of the fact they now belong to Franklin Mint.  I have 3 of the Armour Collection aircraft myself....B-25, P-38, and F6F-5.  I also have 2 off brand aircraft (P-51 and P-47), and you can really tell the difference between them and the Armour stuff.  The detail on the Armour stuff is incredible compared to the others that I have.

If you are finding Armour Collection 1:48 scale stuff for 50-60 dollars, go for it!!!  And send me the link also!  :)  That is about the going rate that I was getting them for last year but now that Franklin took over they start at around a hundred bucks a piece.  I believe the first one they released this year is an F4U in Pappy Boyington's colors for like $90 on the Franklin Mint website.  I paid right around $60 for my F6F-5 and I paid $140 for the B25 and P38 together in a package deal.

Too bad :( It was an italian company with excellent mold designers. AFAIK models were then assembled in China. I own a Ju87B with Regia Aeronautica colors.

Quality of old models (prior or up to the F6F I guess) was excellent for the most part. You should take in your hands a "Zemke Wolfpack" P-47D or a "Skull and Bones" F4U to understand it.

I have a 1/48 Bf 109F from Armour that is really well done.
I was going to get a 190 but unfortunately all of their 190s have incorrect loadouts.  They seem to have mistaken 190G for 190A.

Nomde collects TONS of those. When Franlin took over, u could still got $50 1:48 in Europe, when in USA the prices were doubled to tripled.

Nomde offered me my famous Gabby D25, last time I checked, worth $400 on Ebay :D

Though not perfect in fit or finish, they are very high quality and very sturdily built.  I purchased the F-18 with VFC-13 Aggressor markings over xmas.  Well worth even the $110 cost at the time.

I saw some original Armour aircraft over the June 15-16 weekend at an airshow (Olympia, WA) and the 1:48 jets are $120-$160 each.  The 1:48 prop a/c are $90-$120.

If you are budget conscious try the Matchbox Collectors series 1:72 scale planes. I have an F6 that is very nice, and they sell for $15 new in the box.

WWII aviation display is "behind" the carrier, and naval aviation display is in front of the carrier... or the opposite direction of the second picture... and there's a Spitfire nose you can make out in the first picture towards the middle/top of the display case.

And towards the right of where these pictures were taken, where the banister is... there use to be an Ar234 on display on the ground level, and a P40 hanging there shortly after the 234 was moved.
