The homebuilt Cockpit project is underway!
I spent a good 2 hours yesterday trying to remember the metric system.
I've got my Circular Saw. I got my Jigsaw. I even had the word "Rasp" defined for me. Bought one of those too!
So 2 pieces have been cut and notched....13 to go! The we move onto painting.
(By the way, can anyone tell me off hand what shades of Blue and Gray were used on the F6F in WWII?)
Personally, I think it would be easier to build a real plane, but thats me.
As if I did not have enough to do in my life.

I've used "Blue Angels Blue" for the upper and "Intermediate Blue" for the sides. Can't remember what the bottom color was - I think "Light Grey" or "Light Gull Grey".

May I be sworn into the club to? Mine will be done shorty in 110g colors , hopefully it will be at the con if they give me the ok soon.

The thanks should be going to the designers, perhaps drop them a mail. When I sent them a mail a while ago about the cockpit they said they'd love to see pics of their design being used.
Just please please please take all the neccessary safety steps and keep your digits safe, I've already had one thread where I've been accussed of causing trouble in a marriage through posting links to this cockpit I don't want to be the subject of any lawsuits for endangering AH players :D

Tell ya what Rev. I'll make you a deal. I will hold you harmless in the event of any accidental amputation, or marital discourse, if you can point me in the direct of the colors of the F6F HellCat.
Seriously, if anyone can get me the names of the F6F colors, I would appreciate it. I've bene scouring the net and can't seem to find it. I'm guessing Navy blue...but that seems too obvious.

Well if paint names are as rediculous in America as they are in the UK you could be looking for some stupid colour named 'midnight sienna' or 'misty brook' or some other stupid name :)
BTW I mailed the guys responsible for the cockpit design just to let them know how popular it is here and send him some links.

I'm starting mine this weekend. Already picked up the foam for the seat, and will be cutting the parts out this weekend. (wasn't able to do it at work).
My xp2200+ system is ordered so I'll have a nice home for it once the chips start shipping.

One tool I've found invaluable so far is a L-shaped ruler looking thing. (Go ahead, make your jokes...)
Forget the tape measure. It's too hard to get a very accurate measurement while keeping a straight line. The L-Shaped thing works great for measuring, and as a straight edge.
I spent a little extra for Double Side Sanded 5 Ply wood (Bought 6 4' by4' pieces at Home Depot for $160.00.)
I doubt I'll need this much, but I can always return what I don't use. I still need to get out and get some seat cushion's etc.
I just hope this thing will hold my monitor correctly, and I'll still be able to use the computer for other purposes besides AH.
What the hell, I'm sure I'll figure it out, once this whing is assembled.

My ABC took 3 1/2 4x4 ft sheets. By the way, it holds my 17" monitor without problems. Very sturdy. As for using this for other computer work, Jarbo set a turntable under his monitor, allowing him to turn the monitor 90 degrees to face his computer desk. The desk and cockpit are adjacent, so he just picks up the mouse and keyboard and moves them to the desk, and pivots the montor on it's turntable. I'm eventually going to go for a more elegant engineering solution...a second computer:D. Maybe then I won't have to fight my kids for it in the evenings.

Forget about justifying it to the wife. I think I have the most understanding wife in the world.
Her exact words: "You can have a girlfriend, but don't ever let me find out about it, and don't catch any diseases."
Now that's understanding. Not that I believe that line of stuff, but she tries to sell it.
Meanwhile, when I showed her what I was going to build, her exact words were, "You're a freak, you know that right?"
So let me see if I understand women. I can go to bed with another woman, and that's cool. If I build a computer desk that is ergonomically designed for playing a flight sim, I'm a freak.
Flossy...Comment? We need a ruling here.
If all else fails, blame Revvin. That what I do.

I showed & mentioned the plans to my wife last night. To qoute her she said, "You are crazy" LOL
Little does she know I am dead serious. As soon as I get some traveling out of the way in the next few weeks, off to the lumber store for me.
