Title: F6F-5...what a killer!
Post by: MrLars on June 18, 2002, 05:15:40 PM
So I got tired of flying the La7 and decided to try a mg only armed plane. Took up the Hellcat for a spin and I think I've found the best all around plane for my taste. It has good jabo capibilities and is an excelent fighter. Buff killing is a bit weak but with good aim it can get one pass kills and it's tough as nails. That bird is so forgiving in it's handling it's amazing. When I flew the La7 exclusively I found that the F6F-5 was almost always my toughest opponent . After a few months I'm sure I'll move on to another ride but untill then the Hellcat will be my favorite plane in AH.

BTW, y'all can keep arping about perking the La7, I can see now that it's just barely mediocre with the exception of it's great acceleration.

In the right hands the kitty is one of the best planes around.  Just don't get low and slow in it or you're meat.  :)

The Hellcat is a great plane when flown properly. I have run into some guys that can really make it work. Aside from cannon planes, I target Hellcats first in order to avoid the danger of them getting guns on me.

I would like to know how dedicated Hellcat pilots feel about Niki's?

Niki's are a handful.  Kill them fast or you are in trouble.  Best to have a wingman around, too.

I flew the Hellcat in AW so much for so long I've sorta shy'd away from it in AH.  I do fly it some, and.. well the Kitty is still the Kitty.  In both games the Hellcat is simply a kick- butt aircraft.

FYI, as of Monday, the guy rated #1 in AH flew the following planes in 98% of his sorties in this order:

N1K
LA-7
Chog

See a pattern? ;)  Ironic part is, alot folks never heard of him.

Yeah, seriously shhhhhh. I started flying it just because Mathman's guide was so informative. Now I don't fly much of anything else in the MA.

Well, can't say I'm a totally dedicated kitty driver, but I do fly 'em a lot. The n1k is tricky, but certainly beatable. Overall... the n1k and f6 are probably two of the most closely matched planes in the game imho, I think most of the time it comes down to the skill of the players and maybe just a bit of luck. Oh, and don't forget (like I did), those things are armored, hold down that trigger... it takes a lot of .50 cal lead to put 'em in the water, the kitty has enough to sustain long bursts (ahhh the curse of the cannon lovers, we get in a MG armed bird and forget that the short bursts we are used to just wont cut it with them... try going from a serious yak/La driver to the hellcat, it took me forever to get used to those MG's, heh).

Agreed....the F6F is a great JABO and Air-2-Air bird.

Lately my wingman Abunabi and I have been going back and forth on flying the P-47D-30, Ar 234s (when the bombs have to be there yesterday!) and the F6F.  We've found the F6F is great in situations where you have to fight your way in to target, drop ordinance, and fight your way home too.

Jugs are great, IF you have the alt advantage.  :D

Everyone,
I fly the F6F in the MA 95% of my time. The other time are just learning different planes. I love killing nikis, I love killing them because I just hate jap planes hehe. Anyways, I usually will have the alt advantage so its easy to just sit back and B n Z the crap outta them. If I am lower than them, I dive to equalize the E than I will outroll him. If we are co alt, I will dogfight him and first and if I haven't gained anything, I will just dive away and than B n Z him again. If anyone ever needs help on Hellcat flying, just talk to me...my email is Blueicejr2004@aol.com

The Hellsplat lost its appeal to me after flying it in Hostile Shores last year... but it's had its FM tweaked since then, hasn't it?

Sounds like I may have to give it another chance. :)

Yup, Cuckoo is a good stick, and I'm always glad to see him nearby. Knits and Bish would disagree about the second part. ;)

Neat thing about Cuckoo is that I don't ever recall him using  channel 1. I've never heard him on the range radio either. He's a very low-profile guy, who stands out only in his skills. A quiet and highly efficient killer.

My regards,

Widewing

He'll have my respect if he can hold that #1 score with anything but the N1k, LA7 and Chog ;)

His bomber and GV rankings make him highly ranked overall.  Check out fighter stats and see what those ranked in front of him fly.

Yep, the Ostie is his primary GV. ;)

I'll give credit where credit is due:Personally, I could never even come that close in rank with his airplanes/GV's.. he's a damn good stick, so good that maybe its time he loses his crutches? ;)
