If HTC wanted to make some extra cash, they'd change their naming system to allow me to use my proper online name. Then I'd have some incentive to NOT cancel my account every time I go inactive.
Speaking of which....anyone have a suggestion for a handle to use THIS time?

they could pimp J_A_B.
-
Shoot them email and they will change it.

Russian +) u misunderstand, he wants the handle J_A_B which is not possible in AH as the _ character is not permitted

And I'd pay double to have my proper online name. It'd be worth it.

I will pay double for HTC to NOT allow pretentious 7338 H@XX0R handles with special characters!

Why not. Prince changed his name to a "symbol", why cant we have names like "@" in our AH community.
:D

If J_A_B gets his _, I want to change my handle to A|

I'll take |_33|V|Ur please
W00t! I r a l33t Hax0r! ph33r |V|3!
Bleh.
Acutally, it does seem sort of silly to not allow for ALL alphanumeric chars. Easier to do it than not.

I'd prefer to use a .wav file for a handle.

I know you weren't very serious there SW.....but really, what would be wrong with that?
Tougher to identify TOS-offending players? That's what server logs are for.
Name is just "stupid"? No worse than stuff like "nopoop" like there already is in the MA (no offense intended of course).
Personally I think names like SW's example are colorful and show a lot of imagination.
Plus if I were to get my ID I'd shut up about this forever :)

Nah, I wasn't serious... just seeing what it would look like really. I don't see anything wrong with special characters, but I just wonder if it isn't something that may somehow interfere with one of the various systems that run the online game. Account system? I dunno, it's all done on PC... so maybe somewhere those special characters fug up something. Or maybe make it somehow more accessible to hackers (server side or client side)... I dunno.
Just throwin' out guesses.

Actually I used to suspect the same sort of things....maybe their accounting software doesn't allow for it or something. Except for one thing.....nobody from HTC ever says that. All I get is a "we don't allow special characters" which to me implies they just disallow them for no particular reason.
HT once told me that they'd "never" allow such names as mine. That suggests that they don't want them, instead of not being able to have them. Of course, I'm persistent and realize that in the online world "never" seldom means never, so I continue lobbying them. And I will continue lobbying until such a time as either they let me have "J_A_B", a better product comes along that makes me forget AH ever existed, or AH dies.
Honestly, I suspect the problem is that they didn't think to make the game accept such characters when they programmed it (none of the HTC crew's ID's required such characters), and aren't going to change things to make ONE person happy.

precious!
I think they dont allow special characters because hitech would like a more adult enviroment instead of a Quake-style childish one
why not just use JAB ingame?
-
"Why not use JAB ingame?"
Good question.
Because that's not my online name. Would you change your real-life name just because someone didn't like it? I treat my online name as if it's one and the same as my RL name. Indeed, "J_A_B" is likely all most of you will ever know me as. I've used this name so long--in AW, in Quake, in CS, in AoK, in a dozen other games or more, on ICQ, in almost every newsgroup and forum I've ever been on, even in a lot of my Emails--that it really IS part of who I am. I'm not the kind of guy who constantly changes his internet ID just to anonomously trash people; I've never had a "shades" account in a game and never will. The fact that I essentially lose my "face" when I log into AH SERIOUSLY reduces the fun factor of the game for me.
If it didn't really matter to me, I wouldn't constantly bring it up.

What is your online name?

It would be nice to be able to use non-US characters.
It's quite hard to talk in any Scandanavian language without Å,Æ,Ø, å,æ,ø.
-
éàçè can be usefull too :)

Then I could have / or \

If they didn't let me put <=== ===> around The ASSASSINS I do believe I would go on a hunger strike!
