Title: Your skin cancer and you....
Post by: Udie on June 24, 2002, 10:20:32 AM
Wish me luck fellows.  Fixing to go get a chunk of my shoulder cut out.  With a larger "surgery" that will happen hopefuly before the con depending upon finances (gotta hate that detuctable).

I've had a week to think about it and here am 1 hr away and now I start getting nervous    I sure hope it's not melanoma.....

Don't sweat it Udie.  These types of operations are common practice and in the old days, they would have diagnosed them "too late"...your very fortunate to be living in times like today regarding medicine....

Good luck!

funny part is that I'm not worried about the big "C" word. I'm scared at how bad losing a chunk of shoulder will hurt after lunch, when the numbing stops....

tell them you're a big wuss and need mucho pain killers for after the fact.  Mepregin Fortis (spelling?) is my favorite.  It's basically the same stuff that's in morphine, yet in pill form.  :D   Tho it does have the side effect of slowing down your body's systems...

How much of a "chunk" are we talking here?

I had a chunck taken off my back a few months ago - and it wasn't cancerous btw - and I was back to work a few minutes later.  Not only did they cut...but the doc also cauterised it, which hurt even though I was all numbed up.  But, honestly it didn't hurt that much once all the numbing went away.

zactly what his snort-ness said..had you been born in any other time, things would be much bleaker.. but med science today is amazing and things that we think are scary and freaky are pretty routine.

good luck and quick recovery!

hehe well here I am back at work waiting for the pain.  They didn't take a big chunk but it was a cool little cross section of my Dermis :)   On it you can see skin surrounding that big black mass of a mole the rest is red meat

The cool part : I got some stitches :D

The worst part:  was the sound!  That sounded freakin gross man!  I could hear her twisting the little "punch biopsy" tool through my skin!!!  Then I could hear her cut it out! Then I could hear her put the stitches in.  All of it!

Now the worry of wether or not it's melanoma, God please don't let it be!!!! Then they have to go take a BIG chunk out if it is.....

Funny fealing knowing a little part of me is floating in a jar of phameldahide (sp?)  Let's just hope and pray that it's a LOOONG time before the rest of me is full of embalming fluid ;)

How come they didn't remove the mole man?

I would have told them to take the whole friggin thing off - and be done with it.  Assuming that it isn't melonoma (which I very much doubt it is) have they left you with half a mole?  That sucks!

Udie, screw the deductible, it's your life you are working on.  Let em reposess you. Why you waited a week,  you should have you bellybutton kicked. Percocets and Dimerol, and pilled Morphine are always good:-) The hardest part is waiting the 3 days for the biopsy report. Once you know either way, you can act and control of ones life is always good. Not being religious, I still find myself saying a little, ..."let the good guys win this one" . Medicine has come soooo far, you will not believe it. Keep me/us posted. Chemo kicked my bellybutton this weekend, but one more session then I get a 15 days break.

Big chunk of sholder..big chunk of Colon..trade with ya;-)

Hard,

Well I'm not gonna say where my next surgery is!!!!  Got your bellybutton beat though  ;)  This was too small a cut for me to justify asking for pilled morphine, but I'm thinkin of any excuse I can to get some of that stuff!!! :D  Glad to see that you're pulling through Hard :)

 Curval,

She took the whole mole :)  But she said that if it is cancer that they always go back and take alot more tissue out :(  I looked at the biopsy though and could see a thin ring of good skin around the mole.

Got my fingers crossed on all the rest.

Actually Udie only a tiny chunk of your mole is saved for testing. The rest is dumped down a storm drain somewhere where it will empty into a lake and make a nice meal for a hungry bass. Man I love the irony :)

BTW, good luck on your test.

Everything is kewl.  I don't think it's melenoma but ya never know.  If you guys knew what I had looming in front of me you'd be scared for me.  But it's a bit too private to talk about here ;)  Not much of a chance of "it" being malignant, it's just the location that bites!  That should be enough to figure it out, but I don't want to talk about that one.  I just hope I can do it before the con.....

that stuff is heinous.

Vicadin..is OxyCodone Hydro Chloride...same as Percocets..both contain Acetomenophene. Percodans contain aspirin. Vicadin come in 5 and 7.5 mg Percs stanadard is 5 mg

What was so bad for you on Vicadin? Oxycodone will constipate you tho. It slows down the digestive process.

OxyCotin is Oxycondone HCL in 40mg dose..one pill per day time released...amazinhunk teens crush em and snort em and get the equivalent of 8 percocets.

Please don't mention Percodan...my stomach turns at the mere mention.

This results from a teenage incident in which I took a few too many...resulting in a few friends referring to me as "The Percodan Kid"

Whatever you do...don't drink or smoke anything when on these things.

Well I've had that worthless crap of a "pain killer" Vicodine a couple of times.  I tell them now don't even bother I'll take Ibuprophen works like a charm! but no buzz! :(

My favorite would be the "cocktail" they gave me when I had and upper gastroendoscope thingy a few years ago.  I.V.  demerol, they let that "simmer" for about 20 minutes ;) then they hit me with valium in the same I.V.        wowzers!  they said I wouldn't remember a thing, but they were wrong.

Imagine this :)  The old udster laying on the gerny (sp?) naked under the bed spread, nervous as all get up.  Then they (the 2 HOT nurses) hit me with the drugs.  Then my big mouth enters the picture!  Those poor ladies, but I sware up and down it was funny to me at the time!  Well that is untill they stuck that damned camera down my throat all the way to my stomach!  I wish I didn't remember that one.  (Note to self ask for more valium next time!)

:D

Surgical procedures can be fun to talk about :)

HEHE becareful there old timer!  You don't need that kind of addiction!  When I was 21 I had surgery on my left wrist.  They used dimerol on me then too, only the nurse called it "happy medicine" ;)   Well 10 seconds after shaking I was so scared I started asking the doctor if I could watch the procedure! I was serious too I could have handled it!  He finaly got tired of me pestering him during his "pre-op" so he motioned to the dude at my I.V.  They told me to count backwards from 100,  at 96 or 95 everything went wiggley :D

The first words out of my mouth when they woke me up?

"May I have some more happy medicine please?" :D :D :D they said no

Vicadin makes me extremely naseous, even the smell of food can be extremely uncomfortable.

Didn't take the damn pain away either.

I've spoken to a few other people who've been given vicadin with the same response, extreme nasea.
