Title: Is this the time...
Post by: hblair on June 24, 2002, 10:30:09 AM
for the ME163? The idea was first brought up over a year ago. Picture yourself in that lil cockpit B&Zing the buff formations. Make it cost a little less than the 262 (you can only fly for what? 3 minutes?) Available  only from your HQ and strat targets and only after you've been in the country 12 hours (to keep people from changing sides soley to shoot down raids). Oh yeah, and give them a 5-10% chance of just exploding for no good reason at all. Make it risky. Imagine the whines when somebody loses 150 perks simply because they chose to fly a dangerous bird. :D

It would be a pure joy to have in the game. :) Good idea presented by Rip a year or two ago. Maybe in the next version if not this one? :)

Be careful with the H-stoff! (or whatever they called it)

Thks for bringing this topic up again!

I think it would be a "WOW!" factor for HTC and their business.  Considering that the ME163 would be no threat except to buff formations near HQ areas, I can't see how they could deny us such a great thing! :)

It's got 7 minutes of fuel, but with the fuel modifier the way it is in the MA.... you prolly only got like 70 seconds of fuel.

I think it was C-Stoff and T-Stoff, one would cause any bio material to be eaten away if it came into contact with it.. leak in the cockpit, pilot won't be there when it hits the ground. They were both unstable I think.

Either way, it shouldn't cost anything.. but maybe have a limit. Can only launch 8 every 15 minutes... and only from specialized fields.

I like this idea.. but as for boom AND zoom.. I think they just boomed..I've read that they only had the power for one pass at the passing formations and had to set down (being fat juicy targets for Allied fighters) could someone with more knowledge on the Komet set me straight?

it would be a neat counter to the new 3 ship formations that will surely darken the skies.

However it's done, you gotta agree if done right, there is potential for great fun here. :D

That's the 263 right there Hb... that one never made it past prototype stage.

The 163 can only carry 2x30mm (60rpg I think), had 7 minutes of fuel (263 had provisions for 15+ min), and the 163 had the lil power generator prop at the front.

Can we also have the acid burning effects that many of the pilots faced when fuel leaks etc occcured.

Mitsu could get some good Komet "agony sounds" going...but HTC will have to provide the visual effects.  We could have a spraying effect followed by lots of arm waving, followed by the pilot pulling chunks of acid burned flesh from their faces....

yea..that would be cool.

T-Stoff was hydrogen peroxide and C-Stoff was a mixture of hydrazine hydrate, methanol and water.

There are a lot of popular myths that surround the 163 that are untrue or blown way out of proportion.  If you want to learn about which are true and which are false, I would suggest looking at this book (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1903223121/qid=1024933765/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_3/104-1707614-4399905).  Though Amazon lists it as not being published yet, I havfe a copy sitting here on my lap.  It is a very good book and full of developmental details and its introduction into service with Erprobungskommando 16 and JG 400.  Volume 2 will be coming out in the near future and will probably detail its further testing, development and operations through the ensd of the war and beyond.

It is very interesting reading and highly recommended if you can find it or have any interest in this plane.

Eh :)    Now there is a ride I would purposely save perk points to use on.  I (and many others) have been waiting for that one for quite a while. Bring it on HTC!!!!

You wont see many of them at this cost, and the chances to get a kill with it will be soo low that only joy to ride it will be the feelling of being launched straight up with a rocket in the *ss just to glide back as dead meat to the ground, followed by ordes of P51 atracted by the flashing Me163 icon, if you are lucky and dont get caught, you will loss your 150 perks with a nice "You have ditched" from the host.

No, find a better way.
And if we have unlimited La7, N1K, D9...why to limit other birds?

You're right, 150 is too much. Perhaps have them free as SW said, since they are so limited in where they are based, and can only fly a few minutes. Good call.

Allow each country to have 1 in the air at any given time. Once that ones down another can go up.
With a checkbox to put yourself on the waiting list.

Or perk it at 100 points a blast.

Agree that 1/4 of the time it should go wild, blow, leak corrisive fuel on pilot etc.

With the Caveat that the thing would have a contrial for its entire powered accent..so the escorts and bombers see it coming....

Would be cool, but I'd rather have a Stuka first, complete with dive siren!  ;)

think someone mentioned that HT said he liked the HQ defense idea. HTC should put it in the same patch as the other guy's buzzbomb idea :)

I think we'll see it soon (relatively). It seems that perks would have to depend on how easily this bird is dispatched. If you have to glide in every sortie then it seems perks, if any, should be low, maybe  20-50.

yep... have allways asked for these.   My intention was for them to take off from fields where good furballs were being ruined by some lone fluff at 15-20k who's only target was the fighter hangers.   I thought it would be cool to kill the attention starved wuss before he could spoil the game for so many so easily.

with the fluff formations of 1.10 I don't know how things will shake out.    If the fluffs are more anoying then we need the 163 more.   If they are less anoying then we need the 163 less.

Off the top of my head one of the fuel tanks was between the pilots feet, during late war Germany had problems manufacturing high purity metals. Both fuels being highly volitile and corrosive to certain things the impurities were eaten away causing the fuel tanks to leak. I think this got scary when you got leaks in both tanks and the fuels started mixing outside the motor or the fuel started leaking onto the pilots feet.

1 question. If you only allowed the thing to be launched from the HQ where would you land it safely.  There being no runway at the Hq...

The HQ would have a grass strip, for launching and landing. It would take about 5 min. to edit the current terrains.

I hope we'll get the ME163B. This 163 had special weapon on its back called SG500. its a 50mm shell mortar that is triggered by a shadow of a bomber. This weapon system was used once in the very late stages of the war.

I believe that fired straight up or almost straight up, didn't it?  You'd flight under the bomber, the shadow when then trigger the mortar, firing it upward...

Well I did mix up some C-Stoff today.....Its siting in the bathroom under the sink. Wateing for its other somponet to put in that metal rocket I made. I digress if we get it it should have a good chance of poping when it lands. Seems they poped for no real reason.

Does your use of the verb 'poped' suggest a connection between rockets and Catholocism?

To power the electrical systems.  It drove a power generator using airflow over the prop.

Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe from LucasArts in 19 ... um a hell of a long time ago :D

Here's a snip of info for you from The SWOTL Web Site Home Page (http://swotl.home.attbi.com/home.htm):
Quote

The latest version of SWOTL is contained in the Air Combat Classics set listed above. This is an "updated" (in 1993 for faster CPUs) set of ALL 3 of their fine WWII combat flight sims on floppy disk. The cost is $19.95 (plus shipping). Air Combat Classics (item number: IBM# 01-015) can be ordered direct from LA by calling 1-888-LEC-GAMES (1-888-532-4263) or by visiting The Company Store (http://www.lucasarts.com/companystore/)  at LucasArts' Web site. For those of you outside the US and Canada, Lucas Arts has a web page listing their International Contacts (http://www.lucasarts.com/international/) . NOTE: Be sure to ask for Air Combat Classics, not just for SWOTL!!
Also, older copies may often be found on various Internet "Auction sites" (such as eBay.com (http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&query=Secret+Weapons+Luftwaffe&ht=1&st=2&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&BasicSearch=++)) and other software clearing sites. One other good way to obtain a "used" copy of SWOTL is to post a message in one of the various internet News Groups such as comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.flight-sim or rec.aviation.simulators.

Also of note is that SWOTL2 is supposedly under development with Larry Holland at the helm.
