how bout a "limiter" of some sort in the game to keep any one side from having a more than 20% numerical advantage.

99 to 101....pretty close odds if you ask me......
If you don't get what I just said, then...nevermind......
-
Of course you wouldn't get it...my math is wrong...D'UH...
101 vs 100....still, you get the picture......
-
How about a "limiter" on arena numbers whines?
-- Todd/Leviathn
-
Or perhaps more judicious use of channel selection......

Just imagine how loud they'd whine if (when logging in) they saw the message:
"We're sorry. Your country has exceeded the maximum twenty-percent population advantage. Please logoff now, change to a different team, or try again later."
And, when trying to change countries.
"If, you switch sides, you will not be able to change again for twenty-four hours, and perk points awarded during a reset will not apply to you."
It seems to me Knights never whined when it was Bishops 79, Knights 158, Rooks 97. Nope, didn't hear a one.
-
Hap, back up slowly... don't look behind you and shut the door, quick ! :D
-
When I logged today nits outnumbered both sides combined, bishops were down to 8 fields, lost one of ports to rooks, and nits attacked bishops main island.
I use to log to MA different time during the day, and can say, that bishops advantage is now minimal, if exist. Rooks are still outnumbered.

So my idea isn't practical it seems. Okay. What are the merits of a battle when one side (be it rooks, knights, bishops) has as many pilots as the other two?
Airhap

It's fairly obvious that the Bishops have better benifits. I'm not privy to the Medical and Dental plans offered to the Bishops but I would say the Knights and Rooks should make it a point to find out..
That being said, I myself would fly for the Bishops..
But I'm not a tard.

In my ongoing studies of arena number variations, I've come to the conclusion that from 7am EST to 2pm EST, Bish on more occasions than not do indeed maintain at least a 15-20% advantage in numbers over the other two countries. From 2pm EST to appx 7pm EST, the number become much more balanced with some "spiking" taking place, usually in the favor of the Rooks and Knights. After 7pm EST, it's a toss up and any single country at any given time can be found having significant to insignificant advantages in numbers. Sundays seem to find the Rooks with the mostust. Fridays and Saturdays there's no telling. During the Weekdays you never can tell. This is fairly consistant through appx 1am EST... when numbers begin dropping on all sides, by 3am it doesn't make a difference then the cycle begins to start up again around 6am.
There
NO, I'm not going to post "proof".

Nah Voss, I whined... :(
This lopsided number deal is really getting to be a sad fad. I am no fan of it.

LOL! So you guys come in and whine about those whining about the numbers....hahahahahaha.
I'll put it this way.........many folks have been trying for a long time to get the likes of Howard Tern or the Grease Man off the radio and TV to no avail. The answer is really simple.....all radios and TV's (at least every one that I have ever seen) has a channel knob on it. Don't like what you hear? Change the channel and don't listen to it.....last I looked, this BBS has lots of thread topics and forums....and frankly most of the "whine" posts are blatantly obvious.....yet...you still...click...the...link... and then...procede to whine about others that are whining about something else. Sorry, I find this very humorous and it makes me laugh out loud (it really does)......
Oh, and while we're at it...just tonight, the ROOKS (of all teams...how dare they) outnumbered everyone by a significant amount!
It's funny too in that the Bish were half-arsed attempting to help them clear out the knits just so we could get off that bloody Mindanao map....
Next!

Here's the difference. Those who are sick and tired of seeing whines about an imbalanced arena don't keep posting inane topics about it ad nauseum. Call it a reactive as opposed to proactive whine, if you will. They also don't jump into the middle of threads unrelated to numbers imbalances to explain how much they disagree with those who whine about numbers imbalances. Nor do they berate people on Channel 1 for flying on a side with a numbers advantage.
"Whining" about those whining about numbers would not exist without the numbers whining in the first place. Numbers whining alone, however, could go on forever without a counterbalance.

Whenever I see these posts re player numbers I always think of this quote from an unknown officer in the US Civil War when notified that his forces were totally surrounded by the enemy.
"Good now we can shoot in all directions!"

What Airhap doesnt tell you is that when these numbers were present it was right before a Bishop reset during the middle of the day on Monday. Of course the Knits and Rooks have less players, cause we were pounding the Knits and the Rooks were jumping over to help us cause they thought they could get perk points too. :)
If you wanna post whines about numbers and being outnumbered, at least qualify your data by telling what the situation in the arena at the time was. To just simply come in here and post this withouth the qualifier that the reset was imminent is just moronic.

lol Gixer. So true :)

Last Night I ended up being one of two bish defending A5, When I looked and saw about 30+ nits vulching the field and came to the conclusion that 1 more pass would have me too deep in it to get out I turned for home. I looked behind me and no less than 17 of the dweebs were tailing me. I dodn't care they wernt gonna catch me. I actually laughed because the only way they were gonna get me is if I revved and of course there was no way I was gonna be that stupid. I went home, refuelled and went somewhere a bit quieter.
Point is numerical advantage is just a local thing, even when 1 country outnumbers the other by 2-1 your still gonna get into situations where you are heavily outnumbered, and you can always find an even numbers fight if you look.
I always laugh when I see the numbers whines. Problem is there will always be people who beleive that the game should be angled to give them maximum success at all times and anything else sucks.
Obviously ppl who don't rise to a challenge anyway.
IMHO Outnumbered means more lunch and the freedom to engage without 10 other friendlies chasin your badguy down too.

a whine eh? knew the "moronic" comment would be coming. forgedabout the whine. how bout all of you who have told me that my orignal comment was so stupid or whiney, how bout you tell us all the merits of the current system.
one i did see, lots of targets & none of your countrymen nailing them before you can. there's probably some more but i may have missed them.
so again, what are the merits . if you say i'm just whining w/no listing of the advantages, why the current system is swell, why it's the best , etc . . . well, then what you said previously dosen't carry much weight as far as some system to limit the lopsidedness that arises from time to time.
oh, regading the comment about what "i didn't tell you," i didn't know. simple as that.

Last night we Knights got our bases captured and carrier sunk. Rooks won the reset. Seems to happen to us every couple of days.

So let me get this straight....you were flying online to snap that shot, but you didnt notice that the Bish were about to reset the Knits?

Whine?
Maybe but for a good reason.
People play these games because they like 'em. You can be sure there are more frustrated players who just keep their mouths shut and hope situation changes someday.
When they run out of patience they have two possibilities: Change country or leave game.
First option is bad for gameplay and second one is bad for HTC. Which one you like more ?

You're right leviathn, but you just keep responding to them anyway and telling us all how inane it is and how you are sick of seeing it...so, who's whining about what? The real question is, does it really matter? is it really that important in life to worry about who is whining about what and then try to insert your own brand of how things should be?
I don't regularly come in here and whine about numbers...but ever now and again I get the urge to be antagonistic for no other reason than to be....well, antagonistic.
Frankly, I could care less about the numbers. If my country is being overwhelmed and I get frustrated, I just log off.
I only come in here and whine about those whining about the whiners, because it just makes you guys whine all the more.

It matters to me because it not only clutters up the forums, but it also pervades Channel 1. I don't want to hear some moron grousing about people hopping sides, or how unfair the numbers are. You won't hear people posting things like "I think the numbers are fair and balanced," nor will you hear people attack others for flying in a fair and balanced fashion, because those who believe that are already content. In that sense, whining about numbers takes on a far more antagonist tone than the counter to it.
The fact is also that very few good ideas have been offered to "fix" this supposed problem, so we have whining for its own sake.
I don't regularly come in here and whine about numbers...but ever now and again I get the urge to be antagonistic for no other reason than to be....well, antagonistic.

I'm sure he loves you doubly so now.
Something along that pot, kettle, black thing...........
I wish I had a nickel for every time someone used this cliched old analogy to inaccurately describe something. When I start abusing people on Channel 1 for flying AH in the manner of their choosing, for whichever side they prefer, regardless of the numbers, then we'll talk. Until then, numbers whining shares the primary characteristic of most proactive whines... it cares what I'm doing with my $15, and it wants to change things.
Pointing this out is hardly "whining about whining," the classic comeback of the unclever troll or the proactive whiner without merits to his own argument.

So what about the changes HTC makes? Not trying to fan any flames here (or single you out Lev) but I don't get why it's so bad for people to make a suggestion about balancing the arena, or perking planes or WHATEVER. I've never seen HTC make even a passing comment on trying to balance the arena's... therefore I don't think it's worth getting upset about.

We have folks from all time zones participating in Aces High. Check the MA arena around 8am CST [GMT-6, maybe 2 pm there?] and you'll see lots of Europeans and Asians. It is a rare morning when the Bishops are outnumbered. Therefore, anyone who regularly flies at this time will feel there are too many Bishop.
Except for a two week period, the Bishop have been consistently outnumbered around 8 pm CST for the past 3 months. Most of the time, Knights have more than either Bishop or Rook and occasionally will match the Bishop and Rook numbers. Occasionally, Rook numbers will exceed Knight numbers.
We are all participating in an on-line war game. Targets are good! If you are Bishop and see: 70 Bishop, 140 Knights, 120 Rooks, that means the Bishops got lucky! We have 260 guys to shoot at. while the Knights and Rooks will only have 70. Of course, the outnumbered side (be it bish, rook or nit) will be jumped on by the other two in an attempt to reset the map.
I honestly believe that anyone who complains about numbers should take up croquet instead of Aces High. Think of the advantages of croquet: 1) You get big balls to use and 2) you can whack your opponent over the head with a mallet. :)

Hi airhap, judging by your 7 posts, I guess you haven't flown Aces High that long.
I myself am also a newbie with about two months of online flying under my belt.
I fly for Knights at Euro Times and usually experience the same 101 Bishops, 49 Knights and 51 Rooks deal night after night.
Before I put up my own suggestions to fix the unbalancing, I'd like to thank the seasoned "1000+ posts" guys on this forum for simply calling airhap a whiner and leaving it at that.
That really helped...
Now for my suggestions:
1.) Those who log on to Aces High for the first time, are put into the team with the fewest numbers at that time.
2.) When you log on, you will be asked to join the team with the fewest numbers. Should you agree to do so, you will recieve some sort of reward (perk points, or a free ride in a perk plane etc).
Those are things HTC can do, now on to something that is way harder...
Things YOU can do:
1.) If your Country constantly has the numbers advantage when you log on (time-zone specific), simply switch sides to the team with the fewest numbers.
Note: concerning "friends" and the "I fly for country X because I've always flown for them/the others suck" argument
a.) all countries are the same
b.) you'll find new friends in any country
c.) ask your friends to come along with you and help change the imbalance together
2.) Squads: Analyze the Arena-numbers when your squad, or most of them, usually fly - if your squad is on the team which has the numbers more often than not when online - switch sides.
3.) Countries: if your combined numbers are equal/lower than those of the third country stop fightig each other and fight the other country together.

Leviathn, my post has obviously flown right over your head.....
I squelch channel 1 immediately upon entering the game. I do not initiate whines in this forum about numbers. I respond to some, as I feel like it, simply to show the poster the error in their ways (i.e. it is not always one team out numbering another).
Clutter the forums? LOL! ok. There's so many posts in here that I haven't, nor will I ever read them all, regardless of topic.
Suggestions to "balance" the numbers. I have posted possible solutions, and I've even spoken 1 on 1 with HT about them as well. Response on this BBS to my idea was about 50/50. HT flat out said no. So yes, I have actively pursued the issue and I have offered solutions (not whines).
$15, you bet, I pay mine too.
Sorry my "style" doesn't fit your mold of how it should be. I have no problem with whine posts in here at all. People can whine away all they want. I have absolute control over which posts I choose to read or not read. Who knows, I may never open this thread again.......
