Title: Suggestion to HTC: "Siege!"
Post by: Kweassa on June 24, 2002, 03:45:24 PM
Ok, another jiffy idea that is possible within current AH specifications.. I got this idea during spawn-point camping for enemy GVs. By pure chance, the terrain conditions were very realistic and it began emitting strange sensation of 'immersion' ;) !

There was a slight hill to one side, a resupply truck road nearby, and enemy spawn-point nearby. It so happened that as resupply trucks were passing by enemy GVs spawned, and what happened was a 'classic' GV battle in the small area with very immersive feeling.

 My suggestion is this:

1) Please add sound for the truck convoys. Currently, they seem to pass by silently.

2) Put in a concept for 'road block' for halting enemy logistics. When GVs block enemy supply truck roads, the trucks would halt instead of just ramming through them at 60 mph. It would be great to see use of GVs for passive tactics instead of the only option of barging on to enemy town.

This would emulate the aura of 'siege' in effect. GVs were not only used for aggressive tactics - namely "charge and capture", but they were also used as means to isolate strategic locations.

Therefore, if road convoys are forcibly stopped with enemy GVs(instead of having to knock out 9 x 60mph targets with a slow-firing 25mph Panzer), the attacking GV columns will have another option - passive tactics of isolating logistics and strategic siege.

Imagine a field is under attack by both air and ground. The air battle is on the side of the defenders, but they notice their base is not rebuilding itself for some time. They search out nearby the town and discover 3xPanzers, 2xOsties and 1xM3 blocking the road to the town and halting supplies! The base is informed of this, and this time, the defenders can't just wait in favorable positionsfor enemy GVs to come by in a suicide run. Instead, they will have to organize a GV column to break the siege! :)

This suggests the maps would have to be arranged so there is always an enemy spawn-point nearby resupply roads, and field VHs in relatively good postion so the defending GVs don't take too much time in just getting to the besieged area.

Halting resupplies is virtually impossible in current set-up if there are defending GVs nearby. It is nearly a suicide attempt to stop firing at enemy GVs, and aim at the truck convoy, which just casually passes by right in the middle of a battlefield. The 'road block' effect would help smaller number of GVs in effectively halting resupplies, whereas currently the trucks are insanely fast moving, don't care whether there is a battle nearby or not, and almost impossible to knock out with small number of GVs(unless it is something like an Ostwind palced right next to road). If the trucks are forcibly halted, the siege forces can concentrate their efforts on engaging siege breakers, instead of having to pull aim off enemy Panzer and shoot at trucks just passing by.

I admit it is not exactly a revolutionary change, but a small twist in current program coding might help bring out some new interesting factors for GV battles.
