There's a lot of ways to get into trouble with this bird, but I've discovered it to a wondrous machine when used right (in this case I mean in close field support). It's become my second favorite hands down!

I really like the Typhoon, but there are 2 major things that keep me out of it most of the time.
1] The fuel load
2] The first thing to go damage wise always seems to be the radiator.
Other than that, it's a monster.

Didn't You know, EvilDingo??
The original design was by Kurt Tank.
All of Tanks planes have the radiator near the rudder. :D:D:D:D:p

That explains alot Dingo, well done. I also found the Dora has a magnetic wire antena that funnels bullets right to the canopy radiator.

I loooove the tiffie!:D

JUST SAY NO TO RADIATORS!

The Typhoon has become my favorite ride after some instruction from my squadmate Bohica. I like the way it dives like a sack of hammers and I love watching wings pop right off after a light drizzling of 20mm cannon to the wing root. I haven't had the shot-up rad probs. I tend to lose wings from 6 fire
-
what's the typhoon? It's a retarded Tempest.
And you're right about the radiator...same thing with the temp. hat big freaking radiator must be magnetic or something in order to draw all the bullets.
-
Like I said, the Typhoon is awesome at close field support. With GV's inbound you just launch heavy and B&Z anything moving. It only take a 3k agl slot. I'm prone to pilot wounds in the thing, as well as radiator hits, but in c.f.s. it's pretty easy to get it back on the ground. Though, it's best to head that way as soon as you're hit.

I've spent the last week exclusivly flying the Tiffie, and I've got to say its real real sweet. Know what u guys r sayin bout the radiator, even a couple of bird droppings(.303s) seem to break it!
Keep it fast and let those hispanos do their work and its an absolutely killer. I've noticed that I'm not too worried over those the spit/n1k/la7 set as I used to be, cause as long as u got the speed they can't touch ya.
Great in the buff killing role.

get an spare engine

I don't see 4 hispanos on that pee38. The thing i love most about the tiffie is it's 4 hispaons and when combined with it's speed makes it lethal. :)
I wouldn't call the tiffie a retarded tempest either- maybe it's older slightly less nimble brother. ;) I've shotdown 2 temps in a tiffie (only ever met 3)and both times i suckered them into a high speed scissors. Just because the tempest is better than the tiffie overall, it doesn't mean the tiffie isn't better at one thing against it.
got a film of me in tiffie v temp, i'll look for it and post it somewhere.
-
Another trick is to use only two guns at a time, unless you're hitting a toughr plane (you really only need two even then). You stay lethal a lot longer! :D
-
In reality RAF aircraft with homogenous armaments could not fire half the guns, they were all or nothing deals. Spitfire Mk Is, Hurricane Mk Is and Mk IICs, Typhoons and Tempests fired all of their guns when the trigger was pressed. RAF fighters with mixed armaments, such as the cannon and machine gun Spitfires and Mosquito FB.VIs, could fire thier cannon, their machine guns, or all guns.

That's interesting, but this ain't reality! :D

You mean to tell me that I didn't have to swim back to base after bailing out?
And I bet if those Brits had duct-tape, and WD-40, they would be able to rig up the tiffie so that it could fire one set of cannons at a time!
-
Hmmm...i'm not really fond of firing 2 guns at a time. I much prefer to get as much lead onto the target in the shortest time possible. IMO firing 2 cannons at a time is throwing away one of the tiffie's greatest strengths- it's snapshot capability.
-
thrila.. even firin just 2 hispanos is better snapshot capability that 6 .50's +)
SKurj

Damnit Skurj...now you done it. Now all those .50 whiners are gonna be hijacking the thread saying how overmodelled the .50 calibers are ;)
-
Thrila, you better get the tiffie out of that puddle before it gets stuck.:D

I began to appreciate the Typhoon after watching Vulcan destroy everything in his path in one. I've flown it as my attack bird of choice for many months now and I love it. It's a plane that in gentle hands can put on a wonderful show but you need to keep aware that if you treat it poorly it can be quite unforgiving.
Excellent plane, I love it.

Havent seen anyone mention turn fighting in the Tiffy. Come on guys, this ride is just so much fun turn fighting. I have more fun tangling with low Spits and N1K2s in low furball than a B&Z. Ive had some of the most unforgetable fight lately in low furballs in MA.
Need more of you Tiffy jocks to get into it.
Dog out............

I used to turnfight the Typhoon all the time when I flew it. There's nothing quite like using an expectedly awesome instant turn and four 20mm Hispano shapshot love to ruin a Spitfire's day. It was also the perfect counterbalance to the F4U-1C back before it was perked... I loved turnfighting them.

Typhoids actually out-turn the 109G-2 in the long run.

The only plane I've ever killed with the four .303s on the Spitfire Mk IX was a Typhoon. Took awhile, but I sawed his tail off.
