Post by: Ripsnort on June 26, 2002, 08:54:15 AM
Very pleased for 2 years now with my current X36 stick, anyone here a user of both?  X45 worth the money?

Rip

only if your X36 is wore out

replaced my X36 with X45 because it had gotten loose in the center and main hat was flaky

X45 very stiff as external center spring gives different feel

not built any better as I just replaced first X45 ($10 replacement plan) with another, was about 10 months old and trigger button had wore out/gone flaky. Didn't realize how broke in the old X45 was until I started wrestling with stiff new one :)

CompUSA does have them on sale for $69.95 this week

hmm

that mod wouldn't look so bad if he'd clipped the tie wraps flush

no need for all that unless you have woman forearms, alittle powdered graphite under ring & a few reverse curls does the trick :)

edit:
folowed link and saw he did trim the ties :)

X45   is only $80.00.  Get one and try it.  You will eventually need to buy one anyway, right?

Can you use the X36 profiles on the X45? Or do they have new buttons/more buttons/new rotaries/whatever...

Is it any weaker than the X36? One hat wore out 8 months after purchase. Been using the other hat since, but it's starting to go too. Both springs already broke, and had to replace them by clipping some other springs.

It's basically getting to replacement time for it... too bad the throttle is fine, I wish they just sold the X36 by itself because no one has needed to replace the X35 (throttle).

I love my X45 It's a year old and I've never had a problem other then wearing that plastic ring on the base under the uber spring..I took a piece of stainless steel (fabricated) and put it under the ring and base to give it a smoother surface. It's worked perfect. Prolly why the thing is still in working condition.

Best stick I've bought..

SW

I've had the original X36 analog, two X36 USB and just got my second X45 - all in about 4 years.

For the money, I don't think it can be beat. Once you get used to the center springy thing on the X45, I found I liked the feel better than the X36.. It has a couple of lights on it, the top middle "launch" button has a cap on it and the pinkie switch has this grip thing for ppl with woman hands, but it ain't any tougher than the X36 as far as the buttons, hats go. I removed the pinkie trigger thingy so my hand fit better in it and popped off the "launch" cover so I could get to the button easier.
You have to make a new profile for the X45 as I don't think it'll convert a 36 over.
If you go that route, I'd be happy to send you or Rip a copy of mine to get you started

If you throttle still works , like mine does , go buy youself a real AH treat .

Microsoft's ForceFeed Back 2 , the one with USB . I have to test the forces before using it in AH but other than that , this with the Saitek throttle and ch pedals is the nicest combo that I have ever used in Ace's High .

Try one , if you buy from Walmart they have 14 day back with no worries if you don't like it . Lost a few buttons but the feel is excellent .

airguard is the one that told me about it , he had one he wasn't using when his hat on the x36 went to toejam .

I'll check that one out too spro- thanks!

Btw, are you saying that you can program the X35 throttle, and use it as you programed it with the SGE software, and run the Sidewinder, also programmed using it's software?

Rip

I went from an MS twisty stick to the X45...I love all the programmable buttons.  And, I seem to be the exception...the CD drivers that came with the stick worked fabulously with Windows 2000 Pro.

Only gripe, rather stiff stick, squeaky....doesnt seem to like to center but a few of the guys mentioned tossing some graphite down there, which I just havent gotten to yet.  As I said, its still a new stick to me (2 months).

For $80, you can't go wrong.

I wore my x45 out in 6 months.  The handle is quite loose on the rod its attached to, and no tightening of the screws helps.

While I had it, and before it wore out, it was pretty much same as x36, and worked fine.

Yes you can , I use alot of directx commands so that I can have muiti ah stick sets also . But my mode 2 on throttle is set up for gv , moving head around , up and down etc . The mode three is for bombers .

The only bad thing is that you only get four really reachable buttons on the Microsoft stick but I got my setup with most everything I had before , just had to use my head a little more ,

The good thing is the Microsoft hats don't wear out , plus the feel as I stated before is great , the center is the sweatest spot , quite the oppisite of the couger that I sent back to Amazon .

AKSWulfe : Do u make use of "cycle" actions in the SGE software ? This helps some for loss of buttons commands on the joystick .

I got to tell you's all , you'll throw rocks at your x and y control after you try a ffb2 with Hitech's great force feed back programing .

I used a siatek cyborg stick with a X36 throttle btwn my first X45 and 2nd one. Worked very well but missed the 2nd hat the X stick has ( use it for zoom - on/off, in/out)

tried the ms ffb with the throttle when the 2nd X36 wore out b4 I got the 1st X45. it was different but i didnt fly as well with it and the effects werent what I thought they'd be so I took it back.

Rip, I got mine at Christmas.  Still works great!  No problems!

I fly average of 30 hours a month.

Good Luck!

Hmmm, so if I am used to the feel of the X36, and really like it... then the X45 would be a better choice for me?

Maybe pick 'em both up, try out the MS FFB and take it back if it ain't up to par.

Thanks for the input guys, think I'll pick 'em both up.

I found the ffb didnt have enough program options - my bet is you'll end up with the X45 :)

Get it before Sunday from CompUSA and you'll save $10 - the cost of the year in store replacement warranty. I suggest you get that, just in case. Though not as long as Best Buys replacement warranty which is 2 years for $10, much more convenient. Best Buys requires you to pack up your stick, ship it to them (they do send you postage) then wait for them to mail you a gift certificate which you then go and pick up the replacement. 3 to 4 week turn around best. CompUSA is walk in with old broke one, walk out with new one.

Title: rudder pedals with X45?
Post by: DblTrubl on June 28, 2002, 03:57:19 PM
I just got an X45 to replace my MS FFB that was wigging out on me. I really like the stick and throttle but the rocker rudder drives me insane. Can pedals be used with the X45? I seem to recall hearing that they can't. Anyone know for sure? Any suggestions on a set of pedals?
