Rant mode on:
K-mon ya geeks. Gimme a break. I just started this game a few days ago and the gang-banging won`t end. How the hell am I supposed to learn anything when as soon as I make a merge with a fellow opponent y`all swoop in like a pack of dogs. Least where I came from , some <not all mind ya> would circle or at leats have the courtesy to wait until there was a victor. Are perk points that great?? I got so disgusted yesterday that I went into the training arena just to try and get the feel of a P-51....there were no trainers around and 3 other flyers off over the water. I took off , pulled a few Immels and flew thru a hanger at 300k....started to circle the field and "CHECK SIX" BOOM! I`m down. Try and take off and BOOM! Vulched. Take off in a different direction and BOOM!
Do I have to go off in a corner and hide? What the hell is with this group anyway? It sure ain`t worth $15 a month to lurk in the corner of the arena....I could do that off-line for free.
Get a grip y`all.
There.....rant mode off!
<shakes head and goes for the tylenol.>

Hiyas Kdf :)
Let me know when you're up, and I'll see if I can "help" you .)
The only place you're certain of some one on one is the sadly underused duelling arena, there's a whole different ethos here, unfortunatley.
-
I could say it, but I won't :)
If your serious about learning the nuances of the 51 and the reality of the MA, then give me a call at 913-208-3807...I'de be glad to help.

KdF, welcome to AH.
Don't give up -- there are a lot of folks willing and able to help. I would try the training arena again. If you keep getting jumped (technically not supposed to happen without them asking first) move to a quiet field and tell them on the radio that you would like some 1 on 1. Even if no trainers are available, there is often someone who will be happy to help.
As far as the Main Arena, Rude wouldn't say it so I will, "Quit yer puling sailor, this is war." :)

Hiya KdF! Sorry for the frustration.
I would recommend initially only flying where the green bars are larger than the red bars for any given quad of grids (as seen on the clipboard). While flying in, or with, a squad does help with the gang-bang situation it does not eliminate it nor reduce it by a whole hell of a lot.
The only place I've ever seen any gentlemans rules use were H2H, dueling arenas here or in FT in AW. But gang banging happens here as it does in the MA in WB's as it did in AW. Not much you can do about it except try and not be the bangee by not flying defense or where out numbered till you're proficient in at least one plane.
All you can do it try and fly with as many or more friendlies around you than there are enemy. And never come into a fight lower than 15K :)

It's a team sport.
To quote my favorite Runstang weenies: "Wing up, get kills, be happy."
Drop me a line funkedup@raf303.org if you want some lessons or at least somebody to clear your six. :)

Kdf, the Training Arena is suposed to be for training, if you get shot down without you have anounced your pressence in a fight, ask the person(s) who did it to stop, if they don't stop, film it and send it to HTC.
Let me know if you wanna train or fly anything, come fly knights and we'll look after you :)
-
Hell no. Just dont' cruise about as a newby below 15K ;) I didn't say loiter at 35K and cherry pick those who are occupied or aren't looking up at the stratosphere :)
Course if the fight is less than a grid away and it's a perpetaul furball at 2k then just hit wep after wheels are up and make a bee line for the fight! :)

Just started my pay-for-play account last night.

it is a competitive arena and there are no breaks. it'll only make it all the sweeter when you can hold your own. ;)

Noticed it myself. To be fair, though, we heard about this before we came here, so, as newcomers, we shouldn't rant. Do you suppose its driven by the green stamps thing?

KDF, I am a trainer and I would be happy to help out on a 1-1 basis.

Dueling arena is for 1 v 1 fights. :) Anything goes in the MA, tho I won't blow my alt to dive in on a 2v1.
-
Kdf, they weren't trying to steal your kill, they just figured you came over from AW and that you probably needed help! :)
Welcome to AH.

KDF,
There is a bug that was reported about blowing up when you go to the field. Maybe that was the problem with getting vulched. I had that problem one night, is switched aircraft, then switched back and had no problem.
As far as the gang bang goes, I totaly agree with you. I have seen my own countrymen either swoop in and steal a kill, or just fly by when you are in trouble. You can't let it bother you, and it helps to fly with a squad who will look out for each other.
When I see a one on one, I stay high over the fight and only come in if my countryman gets into trouble. But then I started in AW DOS, and things were much different then :)
It is also best to look for areas with even fights, you see less gang banging. If there are few enemys, go someplace else, or jump on the pile.

You're lucky us pony pilots don't take offense easily ;) lol
KdF,
In the MA anything goes, there are no rules, gentleman's or otherwise. The only thing frowned upon is stealing a kill by swooping in and blasting a plane that is already dead. Follow the advice given above and you will enjoy the MA and no doubt learn the ropes quickly too.

I'm fairly new to AH and know what you mean about the ganging thing (caused me to log several times allready), but some of the reason I think I notice it here more is in AW I knew the spots on the map to intercept peep's on the way to and from the big furballs and I imagine the same will happen here eventually.

Think we have a winner for Rudes whine of the week, and its only monday? :p

this has no chance of rudes whine of the week. he's a newB and was in the TA...he has a point

KDF - the MA is full of gangbanging dweeb gotta get a kill message in the text buffer loser muther chucker try-hard kill stealing bastards!!!!
Other then that they're a good bunch o guys. You could try talking to them, something like "please big red wave on my 6 don't kill me" kinda thing but that wont work.
I think your main problem is the P51 dweebster plane you are flying, you see most P51 Runstank dweebs use the run-really-really-fast@28k ACM so they don't have the problem you are having.
Try this P51 dweeb code:
int main()
{
take_P51_28K();
fly_to_furball();
find_enemy_plane();
if(enemyplane() == damaged && enemyplane() == lower && no_threat_exists())
{
while(no_threat_exists() && enemy_plane_damaged())
{
dive_on_enemyplane();
spray_n_pray_from_1k();
zoom_to_28k();
}
}
else
run_to_base_ack();
return TO_BASE;
}
-
err yeah, code should be compiled with P51DweebHackPro Ver 1.33T and then linked into AH.EXE with the -D and -L switches.
Enjoy
-
I'll vouch for KdF as not the kind of person who would fly that algorithm ;) If anyone can fight a Pony like a Hellcat KdF is the one.
<S> and welcome to AH

Zygote.....
In uncovering the hidden meaning of your whiney P-51 post, I have come to the conclusion that you are unable to handle dying like a dweeb repeatedly to the guns of a properly flown Mustang.
You obviously are dealing with high levels of frustration and inadequacy regarding your pilot skills and that, my little misdirected friend, has begun to manifest itself on this board as the wimperings of not girlscouts, but rather along the lines of sounds perhaps heard at your local La Petite Academy just prior to nap time.
Just remember one thing, accept who you are...embrace this mediocrity and make it your friend...everything will be ok man...I promise.

LOL do they come properly flown rude? I'd be happy to go to the DA and show you my mediocre skills but i'm afraid with you in a P51 you'd just fly away screaming like a little girlie.
As it is, I have yet to be killed by a P51 in a 1 vs 1, mainly because I have'nt managed to persuade a P51 to stick around long enuff :D.
So I stick to my guns, as far as I can tell P51 pilots are runners, probably made up of a good portion of the Shiden Kai crowd now that they've lost their advantage.
So I'll prolly see ya running, somewhere in the MA then :D

Well the first half qualifys hands down, the second referring to the TA still does. 30 odd bases are available, to respawn at the one where people are fighting (no one is practicing patterns in the TA default spawn)
is asking for it. Moving to a corner to fly unmolested is exactly what one does if you wanna be left alone. As for being a newbie I feel his pain, I tried AW and for the hell of it spent an hour trying to get off the ground from different bases without success. So it cant be that shocking a surprise.
That said If ya need any help and see me online Kdf, be glad to assist. I suck at flying but am a good target drone.

KDF:
If you fly for Rooks gimme a yell when Im up. I'll go and spar with ya for a while. Some of these folks in here do that. They fly around like kids at an under 8 soccer game. There are those in every country that do that. Hehe, it even happened in AW :) Same rules apply tho, don't take off from a capped field; grab away from suspected incoming nme; don't do the alt monkee thing...they always come down if they want keels, then you keel them <EG>
