Cool game. Level 15 in the original is a real brain twister (it was for me anyway). You gotta think unconventionally for that one.

The new version is cool, but I finished all those pretty fast once I figured out how to use the off center anchors. Thats ok cause its actually more fun to build weak bridges and watch them fold up when the train crosses :D

This bridge engineering game is pretty neat.  How do you guys get the screenshots?

I'm using Hypersnap DX from Hyperionics (http://www.hyperionics.com/). AFAIK it's only screencapture proggie which can grab pics from 3D games etc.

Chaos you have to select COMPLEX at the top of the screen. That lets you hit the Forward and Back buttons on the right to move the grid forward and back. Move it until the riverbed anchor is white and then you can select it. To connect it to something in a different vertical plane you select it then move the grid until the "something" is white.

Or, you can build just the deck and drop a heavy steel beam straight down as far as it will go right in the middle. Test it and you get the wacky funhouse road. Alot of it breaks but it hangs together and the train can make it (not sure about the passengers though).

Mine falls into place and continues to move as the train travels on it.

I tried to make a swingset bridge but I didn't have the money

The train does make it 4 times and could keep going =)

I used alt+printscreen to capture my image then pasted it into paint shop pro to save it.

Nuttin fancy.

Brain twister? is a damned torture!

Please, gimme a tip on how to solve it, because I have no clue on how to make the train climb the step it needs to to pass sucessfully :(

The train only drives on links placed horizontally from the anchor, so no step will work. This rule applies when you're in the edit screen. The "road" can move during the test and the train will still drive on it.

What you have to do is pitch the road up (dunring the test) to make a ramp, then the train can jump across. Gravity is your friend here.

Ozark, are you using the riverbend anchors off to one side of the bridge? You have to be in complex mode with symettry turned off to make this one.

i still cant get the bottom anchors to apear white. what am i doing wrong?

You need to use forward and back commands in complex mode. It moves the grid and at one point those anchors become more white than gray.

Yes i know, it turns whiter but then i cant conect it to anything or make the 'preset' line apear.

use the fwd/back control, sometimes you may have to move it fwd twice to get to the anchors and back twice to get to (for example cables) orther portions of the upper bridge.

Also,  Sometimes you have to pick your material and pick the begining anchor,

then while the material is still selected and trying to attach it self to something, click the "fwd" or "back"

then when your attach point lights up go ahead and attach the second end of the still selected material to the point that is now in play.

Yah, I thought about that, too, but I can't get the bridge not to break before the train can be "Launched" (lol).

I guess I'll have to figure a way to bend the "rail" but not letting it reach the breaking point. I tried it but failed miserabley :D

back to the drawing board (lol)

I tried to be clear but the main idea is to

Select first point

go directly to fwd or back and get your second point to become white

move your mouse over the map and attach your second point.

Also make sure these are points that can be attached to each other.

For example don't attach a steel beam into the middle of a cable ( I don't believe it will allow that attachment) altho you an attach cables to both ends of a steel beam.

How do you guys get more than 7 levels in the first version?
Title: Wanna be a bridge engineer ?
Post by: RRAM on June 30, 2002, 06:53:21 PM
do them all and, after completing level 7, you can select level 8 ;).

BTW I already did the 15th...the bridge broke in several points (in fact it fell down :D) but the train made it thru...barely...but enough. :D

Now I'm messing with the new one. Lets see what I can do with it :D

You dont even need the offset supports in the final level of the demo.
