According to this, Florida, New Mexico and Wyoming are the only states left that need to clean up their act.
-
hehe, no way! If we do, then Cuba really will own South Florida! ;)
-
maybe you should read the florida constitution
excerpt>>SECTION 2. Basic rights.--All natural persons, female and male alike, are equal before the law and have inalienable rights, among which are the right to enjoy and defend life and liberty, to pursue happiness, to be rewarded for industry, and to acquire, possess and protect property; except that the ownership, inheritance, disposition and possession of real property by aliens ineligible for citizenship may be regulated or prohibited by law. No person shall be deprived of any right because of race, religion, national origin, or physical disability<<
its says "aliens ineligible for citizenship "..."MAY BE REGULATED"
-
When the constitution was written, "alien ineligible for citizenship" meant Asian.
-
and what does it mean now?
-
Afghan?
-
we should send a ferry to cuba so castros criminals don't get their feet wet during the next inner tube invasion
-
Afghans are ineligible for US citizenship?
-
Appearantly those three states still have very old laws on the books that were meant to keep chinese railroad laborers and their japanese foremen from becoming americans .

Actually, according to this:
"Only three states - Kansas, New Mexico and Florida - still have what are known as "alien land laws." Kansas is about to repeal its version; New Mexico voters will decide in November and Florida has taken no action."
And...
"Last year, the Wyoming Legislature repealed its 1943 alien land law, which had been enacted in response to placement of Japanese aliens in an internment camp in the state."
Stop giving my hometown a bad rap! :)
The article IS funny though, considering Kansas is the 'Freestate' and Wyoming the 'Equality State'.
