HT, it ain't Microsoft Train Simulator!!
But, it looks like a moving target that needs strafing!! Roll that puppy over a high trestle so we can empty our B-17 bombs :)
Looks great!!! <S>
-
Typhoonlicious!!!
-
I am not sure but that train looks like it held to much E coming offa that flat turn. :D
-
So, what kind of ack will it be pulling :D??
Manable? AI? Both? Ya, trains are great!!
-
Yeah booooy! :D
Drano
-
HiTech, that is really nice, it flattened my penny on the track, so your weight of the train is dead on.
Ok, now what will these trains do? Any little tidbits you can throw our way on What role the trains will partake in the game?
NUTTZ
-
Hmmmmm... Typhoon tours are closing :D
-
minor flaw:
the tracks are not ligned up with the trains wheels.
if the rails could be made narrower they would align properly
-
Ordered the bribe wine, HiTech........so if I hand deliver it to ya, we gonna get the P-47M or N? :D ;)
Nice choo choo, BTW!

Don't that look good? :)
And the next discussion is:
What's the effective blast radius of a freshly rocketed choo choo?
Followed by:
What probability of damage would flying through the smokecloud/bits of train entail?
I can hardly wait :)
-
"I've been working on the rail road, all the live long day..."
Now, just need to practice with the rockets. :)

Neat. Looks nice, except what Fester noted.
Now, trains don't really mean a thing without some gameplay change attached to them. So, what is the effect of trains on AH's gameplay going to be?
-
Cool, trains :)
Thats great Scotch...yummy

Aces High needs to be renamed "Planes, Trains & Automobiles"

Yeah, sure.
I had to laugh.
Obviously, HT hasn't loaded up X-Train and given it a fair evaluation.
-
some of you people are amazing.
we get a glimpse of a new feature that neither competitor has, one which could add a little more historical realism to scenarios and regular MA play, and people just keep on bashing htc. If you don't like the additions, design and produce your own game with almost zero staff and from the ground up, but don't slam hitech for doing his job.
makes me wonder why the hell they don't join up with the whiners in the WWIIOL boards.
personally ht, i think that's a pretty damn good addon and can't wait to see it.
-
moose,
Well, you see, I pay $30.00 a month to play this game. If something is added that is just graphics, then it doesn't really make the game better for me. As it stands now, I have some serious issues with AH. There are things that would make it more enjoyable for me and I will advocate those things. I believe that HiTech and Pyro will make the best decisions they can for their business, but for my $30 I will give them my chunk of market reseach.
FWIW, I don't think the trains are just graphic, I think there will be a gameply feature associated with them, I am just curious what it is.
BTW, many things that HTC has given preview images of Fester, and other, have pointed out errors that HTC has fixed before releasing. It is a form of quality control that HTC has never expressed a desire to be halted.
-
Does this mean 1.08 will have export AH film to AVI? :D
-
If I lay a 1K egg on the tracks ahead of the train, will it be derailed?
Btw HT, I think it looks just fine even if the wheels don't line up. I doubt it will even be noticable during a 350-400mph pass. :D
-
I never reply to these things, but, I feel I must.
I have been considering canceling my account due to my lack of funds, but, seeing what HT has been doing has made me reconsider that decision.
I will be giving up my $1 a day habit at the petting zoo to continue flying.
Seriously, its not the 'train' that makes me stay. I feel that HTC is a rarity, it is a business that is constantly looking for ways to give its customers all that it possibly can.
In closing, PERK THE G'DAMNED NIKI OR UNPERK THE F-4UC.
Regards,
MrFly

I can see it now.....hangtime in a gingham dress laying on the tracks shouting 'HEYALP!!! HEYALP!!!' and proffate the dasterdly villain leaning out of the train: 'Mwahahahaha'
:D
looks cool HTC :)
-
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!
They don't even need to have an impact on the game immediately, as long as they can be strafed and go boom! ;) Though, I'm sure they'll have an impact on something, probably either availability of a resource at a field, or increasing rebuild times for downed facilities.

Go buy you a video card you freeloader!
:D

LOL Hazed!!! I can't wait to see the train in the game too! It will be cool having moving targets (Besides the armor) to attack.
Of course, it will be fun to grab a fighter and just follow the tracks and bounce those looking to attack the train ;) .
-
Now that was some news!!!! Thanks HiTech.

Steam train, black smoke??????????
Fidd (been on many steam trains)
-
Might be chance to bring out whole new meaning to the word "logistics" in MA ! :) If the total supply of materials and goods of a field are drastically affected by whether the train gets to the station or not, there will be players (either organized or disorganized) out hunting it.
And the pure strategic "need" would bring some new definition to where and how the fight is located and fought. Might bring something to appease strato-players effectively.
Of course, it's a big "if" there. "IF", the train affects a certain field enough(drastically and quickly).
ps) Maybe we might be able to move GVs quicker?

Most steam trains burned coal, hence black smoke. The steam trains you've been riding on wasn't one of these dweeby theme park gas fired jobs was it?
;)

I have always had the deepest sympathy towards those fully grown adult men who had a fascination with trains....toot toot ;)

a train with black smoke - never seen before!!!
An early early early early view of the thing.

Actually that looks like an oiler. The majority of steamers in the late '30s and '40s were oilers. Coal engines put out a lot of black smoke compaired to a wood fired one, but the ones that cloud the skies are generally oilers. Just as coal vs oil fired war ships.
-
No they don't, beleive me. Most of the "smoke" from a moving steam-train is in fact steam, and should be a light grey colour. I've travelled on real steam trains many times at the Bluebell Railway here in the UK (a private steam-railway) as I used to live very close to it. This black "smoke" looks all wrong to me.

LOL Fidd...you ever burn a hunk of coal? Say in a Bar-B-Q? Coal smoke is black! Black as night!
I had my first ride on a Coal Burning Steam train in 1979 in Canada. That SOB turned everything on the front 2 cars black with soot!
Now that thing you rode in the UK is probably a modernized low polution gas burner. Very few places on this planet still alow someone to burn coal as the Steam Engines of the 1940's did.
Oh, when they didn't burn coal, it was whatever wood they could find (War area trains especialy), and this would be dark grey, but hardly white like the steam.
Now, as for the steam...you might see white steam as well but only if there is too much steam for the pistons to use and had to be vented to keep pressure from reaching dangerous levels, or if they were trying to stop and wanted to dump all the pressure.
Personally, all of this is muted by the fact that we now have a beautiful new eddition to the AH family of vehicles.
Sure would like to see some game play ideas on this issue in stead of "Track size" and "Smoke Color" gripes.
Would be cool if we could rebuild HQ's faster by getting a train in safe, or Add 10 perkies to every player of the country who has a train make it to it's destination.
Maybe even a 2-3 train system that can be routed by players (such as the cv can) along different track destinations: HQ, City, Ammo, Training. That would be nice!

Look... this train is only going to add to the already problematic emissions of greenhouse gasses in the MA.
You'll note that in beta, the skies of the MA were clear to the horizon. Shortly after, the horizon began to show the warning signs of our burning of fossil fuels. As this trend continued, there was a marked increase in cloud cover. It all points to the deteriorating atmospheric conditions in the MA. I can not support this train thing. Not one bit.
Sorry... been reading to much... :)
Thanks HTC
Salute!
IC
p.s. Could we add smoke to the chimneys at factories and cities? It would help them look "alive". :)
-
"Smoke" on a steam train is mainly steam...any way you cut it.
Now, that steam can be very heavily influenced by fireing, load and fuel type, but it's stil mostly steam; to the point that GWR terminology for what you and I probably call the smoke stack is the steam exhaust.
Fuel is probably the strongest influence - in England most trains were run on low sulpher welsh coal, Germany used oil bearing shale, and who knows what the French used?
Here's a link to a picture of one of Englands most famous trains trailing a lovely white cloud behind it: http://www.flyingscotsman.com/gallery/img/history/his_15s.jpg (http://www.flyingscotsman.com/gallery/img/history/his_15s.jpg)
Yankees are bound to be confused...a lot of thier imagery is of Western (cowboy) trains...these were sometimes wood fired and subsequently had those enormous spark arresters fitted and I'd imagine they were burning bullchips a good deal of the time, the smell certainly lingers.... :)
