Title: gunsight calibration
Post by: Trip01 on July 03, 2002, 05:00:39 PM
Practising offline, I've got the gunsight calibration procedure down. However, the eggs land exactly where the sight is *when they land*, not where the bombsight was when I released them.

Anyone else seeing this?

Sounds like maybe you actually don't have it down.

Not just being an ass...

...well, maybe a little bit. :)

Sounds like you didn't click the spot on the clipboard to set target elevation?

Ok, maybe. But if I'm doing it wrong so are plenty of other people cos

a) there's several posts in BW to the same effect and
b) nobody is hitting sh*t in the arena tonight ;)

Nope, definitely done that & everything shows green after leaving calibration mode.

Probably I am doing something wrong, but it isnt that ;)

Well, it's not true that no one is hitting crap--my first two sorties, I nailed both sets of targets I aimed at.

If you are missing, but still in line of flight, there may be an easy solution.  One thing I've noticed from talking with a couple of people is that they are rushing the moment WHEN they calibrate.  After you level, you have to wait until the plane is up to full speed (or whatever speed you are planning to bomb at).  If you don't wait until your airspeed is steady, you will miss.

Don't know if that's the problem, but hope it helps.

Taiaha...........So give us the run down..  #1  Go to Bomb site via  the F6 key.   Step #2 ..,,,Then Hold down the Y Key to calibrate for speed,  WHEN?.  Are we looking at the Target through the site at that time?.   Step #3. Click on the Clip Board Map to Calibrate for Target Alt.  A click in the general area of the target should do the trick,  no?  Like 1/8 inch on the Clip board map??  Next  release the bomb when the target is in the cross hairs??  Quit you Gloating and..  Talk to us man. :)

I was doing same thing on 1st runs .....make sure you get out of cal mode and info is in green text ...most likey u are doing all correct but not exiting cal mode

1 click "U" or what u have mapped....enter Cal mode

2 set alt of target (click on map)

3 use the stick and "M" key to mark a spot any spot does not have to be target for at least 2 seconds ...again may differ (think this sets speed)

4 open doors and set salvo/delay etc.

5 click "U" to exit cal mode

dont turn, speed up or deviate too much or you have to recal.

Hope Helps

Ahhh..No wonder I wasn't hitting anything!...I was chopping gas as I neared target.

Going back offline to practice!:)

Remember that now the bomb bay doors create drag when open, so better open them at a reasonable amount of time before calibrating the sight, allowing the speed to stabilize.
