Title: Base naming
Post by: 2Late4U on July 04, 2002, 12:37:02 PM
Ive never been a huge fan of bases being #1, #34 etc, but the new map really exasterbates the problem.  You can no longer just say "XXX Base, you now need to say sector xx,xx base xxx" because its imposible to see the whole map at once and my poor old brain had enough trouble with 40-50 bases.  I knew we had a problem when I saw people asking what HEMISPHERE base xxx was in......I almost fell outa my chair.

If the base names were NAMES, and had some relation to thier location, it may be less confusing.  maybe each hemisphere could have a color, and the letters could go from A-Z as you got closer to the center (or the edge whatever).

Red Binky, Blue Felix, Yellow Wagon etc

just one mans idea:D

that does nothing to solve the problem of locating a base in MANY situations, like your in the air, its an enemy base etc etc

Not to mention there is currently a bug in the move or goto command that locks you out of further moves.

For the most part, on this map,  bases are numbered left to right, top to bottom.  If that helps any.

I think HTC should do what nasa or whoever they are is doing.

You all know there are hundreds of thousands of stars out there in the universe. 99% of those stars have sexy names like MC-775623 or RT-88554...Well for a small amount of money you can name one of those stars. That star will forever have the name you have chosen for it. Name it after a girl...and it is the perfect legspreader...I can guarantee it (and if you dont know what a legspreader is, you need to get out more).

SO, my suggestion. For a small amount of money, HT lets us name a base of our choice.

I'll go first.
I pick A61 -new name Fort Madeleine
I choose "Fort Madeleine" because in Sweden (which is a monarchy) one of our princesses is called Madeleine (not only is she a princess, she is also the duchess of the area where I live), and this is what she looks like:

totally agree with names.
One of the things I really miss from the old Air warrior Big pacific map. When you could say meet me on the Ranger or lets defend Hickam etc ... it just adds to the immersion.

i think a letter in front of the base to split the map into four sections would be better like Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4, Quadrant 1 ..2..3..4. So if you say Q1 A34, you know that where your looking at.

*SLAP* you are talking about a royal princess here ;)

in my dreams...in my dreams..

Hey, maybe I should email the royal court and explain that I have named an important airfield in Aces High "Fort Madeleine", perhaps that will get me a date with her or something...

I brought the idea of base names some time ago, it wasn't very popular...

But now that we have the Pizmap (tm) we can actually do something about it!

"Help! Base Pepperoni is being attacked from the 3rd anchovy to the right!"

"Gee, I'd help you, but my mozzarella isn't in good shape either"

"Mission up! First, ze tomato, then... ze world! MUHAHAHAHHAA"

Man, I'm hungry now. :D

Ah, that would be Victoria, our crownprincess and future queen and supreme ruler.

Now do you guys realize why Sweden is the best country on the face of the earth? ;)
