Since I didn't see any posts to this effect yet I thought I would add it as most people I was online with last night agreed the lag was very bad.
I'm assuming it is a different server that does the downloads for the update so I don't think that will stop once everyone has it downloaded.
In any case the lag to the enemy planes is simply too bad to even play anymore and I know many others had the same issue.
