The anchovies are stinkin the place up.

LOL! I don't have a problem with it. Okay it's damn mighty big and easy to get lost and even hard to coordinate a decent sized attack. However it is still a very young terrain and because of that I'm finding it a much needed challenge in AH. Of course we may all be sick and tired of it in a month or two but we have to give it a chance. I'd sooner fly this than the awful Mindanao terrain anyday! :)
Cyas up!

Time to change the broken record Vulcan? We heard you the first 134 times.

And I'm pushing for more change... accept and continue bug
Honestly, logged on tonight, 120 people on. Of the two fights I managed to find, one was to far, the other ended up being 5 of us circling waiting for some poor dweeb to up. In the end I got bored and did the field ack, logged and played WC3.
The rest of the arena seemed to be spread out milkrunning bases or hopelessly lost looking for fights.
I'm not the only one that feels this way. I just want HTC to say "mmm yeah maybe it ain't working" - and look into it.
When have I ever grumbled about a map before?

Yesterday? The day before? All of the above?
Last night it was the 4th, we're all out drinking.

The map is 2 days old, and we still have about the same amount of players in the arena at any given time as we normally have.
To me, the large map and the revised strat system are an indicator of how BIG this game is gonna get.
Sure, it's hard to locate one another on it, cause we aren't used to it yet. (Was giving my squaddies grief the other night with my "Where the hell is AXXX at anyway?" on VOX)
But at the same time, you can still find a furrball if that is what turns you on, you can organize small raids and take bases if that is what you want to do, or you have much better odds of finding a one vs one or maybe one vs two fight if that is what floats yer boat.
This map has ROOM for it all, and it's gonna take a while for all of us AH lovers to get familiar with it.
-
sure it's a big map and right now it's boring as hell to fly around and do nothing but if we just be patient .....in a couple of years we will have enough players to fill it up and make it every bit as fun to fly in as the old maps. or close anyway.

Ladies and Gentlemen (you too Lazs :D) of the jury;
Do you think that, just maybe, we have the same amount of players in the arena because there is a new update? And perhaps, the number of players in the arena should be HIGHER than normal because of this new update. Thus, concluding that because the number of players in the arena is NOT as high as it should be after an update that there could be a problem with the map? Are people logging on to fly the new planes, get frustrated with this map then log off with plans to return in a few days in hopes of finding a different map?
I rest my case :p

I don't like the shape of the map or the colour... make it abit more realistic like one big island with coastline, rivers, desert and green countryside not just desert. Or maybe 3 big island with the same things and some smaller islands surrounding the 3 big islands.
have heard from HiTech that they are gonna do something about the colour and alt differences between bases.
This is an ugly map, but only a "beta" map, so I hope it gets better. The gentleman who designed it must have been working very long to get it finished but it needs some fixing.
Thank god we have the .move command or id never find any bases.
Hmmm me sa think dis is gonna take a loong time to reset
-
Please, get rid off this map ASAP, or reedit it with half the bases or even less than half.

Nilsen2, we certainly have a yellow moon map.

Do not be so thinned skinned here Iron. I always respected the AK's... going way back to their original days when we played Red Baron on TSN/INN. You and your mates voluntarily put your heads on the chopping block by creating a map, especially with this crowd. That’s the way it goes. Your squads map is an awesome attempt and I imagine an even more awesome undertaking, its just with a maximum of 500 players allowed in the arena (and I've played the map with only 390), it doesn't work.
Good try though :)
-
I can take criticism Sky, maybe not as well as some. The whining about the big map started a month before anyone tried it. Now it's been in use for not even 3 days and some have done nothing but complain. It's just gotten tiresome.
BTW Sky, I've respected the AK's long time too though I didn't fly with them on TSN/INN, was a WingWalker back then.
-
Is there another map to take it's place?
Well, no... you're stuck with this one until they redo other maps or release other ones they are working on. The old terrains don't support the new zone area and thusly can not be used by the server.
Be patient... I remember playing the game with 30-60 people online on the beta maps with large flight times between the bases. It's only a matter of time before the bandwidth and hardware can support 800+ players to fill this map... what do you think the point of larger maps are?

Ahhh yes, WWIron. I remember you. Didn’t you come in towards the end of RB ? Not many of us RB'rs left flying. I remember creating four new SW tourneys for RB, two of which were duds and I also remember the criticism Hagen and I took for those duds…it helped us to make a better tourney as I am sure all the criticism the AK’s have taken on this map will help them to create a better one. It’s all trial and error.
-
SkyVon, I was a TSN subscriber before RB was available so no, I was there at the beginning. In fact, I was the first member of the WingWalkers, well, actually there were two of us that created the squad, me and Lukster, but he never was very active.
-
Ok, yes...its coming back to me. I was thinking Ace created the WW's; my mistake. You ever hear from him? He was a good guy :)
-
I left TSN in early '93, duty called, tour in Korea. INN was dying by the time I returned. WW's became active again in Flying Circus and I participated for a while. Then we moved on to RBII. Tried to generate interest for Aces High when it went beta. No takers so I joined the AK's who were active in AH.
I remember Ace but have had very little contact with any of the WW's in the last couple of years.

Iron, don't listen to the idiots. It's a GREAT map. Lots of interesting tactics you can use to do base captures etc.
Hats off Iron.
