Title: New Bomber Code
Post by: Hun-Hunter on July 05, 2002, 09:08:19 PM
I noticed that when I shoot down the lead buff in a 3 plane group, the other computer controlled buffs fly perfect formation with it--straight into the groud.

Would it not be better to have the human controller automatically assume control of one of the surviving planes? The one with the leas damage would be ideal. The way it is right now is just silly..

My 2 Cents

I think it's giving him the option to try to keep the lead under control.  He has to bail out to swap to the following bomber(s).

I think that there needs to be a limit on how much the lead plane can have fall off before the drones stop playing follow-the-leader, particularly when you're in a gunner position shooting at the Fokker who's blowing pieces off your plane. Losing a wing, bailing, and finding yourself in the next plane in an 80-degree nose-down attitude because it's slavishly following the out-of-control lead plane is not a viable solution, particularly when you've got the formation locked into straight-and-level on a bomb run.

It could be something as simple as locking out the 'follow the leader' code for more than minor course corrections (i.e., drift) when the pilot turns on the autopilot and not unlock it until the pilot does something that would take the formation off autopilot.
