Title: Despicable behavior in base capture...
Post by: Preon1 on September 22, 2001, 04:23:00 PM
Until a few days ago, I had always assumed that killshooter took affect if you shot ANY allied unit.  However, I came to witness a friendly plane over an enemy base strafing out our own paratroopers while they were under chute.
At first I thought this was just a fluke, but after asking around about it, I come to find that there are people who actually switch sides to strafe paratroopers before a base is captured.  There are also those who will strafe the troops carried by the goon that got there earlier so his later squadron mate can get the base capture.
This kind of behavior is fundamentally wrong and goes against the entire spirit of the game, especially seeing as how there is nothing we can do to prevent it.
HTC, is there anything that can be done to stop this?

If you shoot friendly troops, your plane should explode instantly.   :)

Agreed, also the killshooter should be turned off 1/2 an hour for the offender so his countrymen can put ventilate his plane  :D

Ofcourse John, but what about the guy who is on his last sortie of the night and decides to be the wolf in sheep's clothing?  He can switch sides, tear up troops, land, go to sleep, and be back in his native country the next afternoon.

Wotan,

Heh.  I know you were kidding.  I was just expressing my shared exasperation for that.

I hate flying Goons for these reasons:

1) The call goes out, you grab a Goon and fly over there only to find that either the field isn't even close to ready or there is a bunch of enemy aircraft over it with no friendlies in the area.

2) The call goes out and you say you'll Goon it, you communicate all the way in about your position and the status of the field only to find that somebody else got there first without saying a word.  The funny thing about this is that I wouldn't mind being a backup Goon, I just want to know that I'm the backup Goon.

Yes, many times it goes as planned, but it is too common for the other things to happen. It makes flying Goons frusterating.

There are people with multible accounts, as well as squad members in different countries and will use them to "spy"
Our squad realized sometime ago to keep info such as which base we're hitting and where our gooney is to squad channel comms only.

It makes goonin' frustrating for sure, but "LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS"

What I hate is when I fly a goon all the way to a base being vulched, and my countrymates actually expect me to drop my drunks on the base.

It's much more fun to throw my drunks out at any enemy planes trying to kill me.  :)

I can't believe this kind of thing is going on and I think it should stop immediately!  (http://www.freakygamers.com/smilies/s/cwm/3dlil/smirk.gif)

I know I've not answered the call a few times just because its a two handed 2 eyed afair flying nap-o-earth in a goon through canyons and over hill all the while watching for goon hunters. Typing "YES YES I'm OMW" for the 3rd time just seems about 4th on the list of important things to take care of. But hey, maybe thats just me  :D

Is there a feature like AW where you get a "persona non-grata" status for the next 24hrs or so and you don't get ammo?

This will force the guy like that to fly goons for the next day!!  :) A justified punishment <G>

Preon:

While I haven't witnessed that happening, I can believe it. I also believe that the killing of troops so that a squadmate can get the capture happens. From what I have seen, there is a woeful lack of teamwork among many.
In this game, everybody can get what they want out of it. Unfortunately team work takes a back seat to the "greater glory" of individuals and/or squads. Because of this, the parity in the MA can be affected also. Even though outnumbered, a country can effectively defend and go on the offensive. It aint gonna happen if the country you fly for couldn't cooperate their way out of a loose fitting flight suit. Few will fly goonies because they don't get help from fighters. Gets frustrating when you fly a gooney and get shot down each time, and you see yer countrymen all around you; sux bigtime.

Karnack, you hit it right on the head.

I've been asked to goon, told to land and wait.  And while waiting, see another goon overfly me, squeak in, land, and get the heroes welcome.

Its annoying.  And people wonder why more dont drop what they are doing to drive goon

Man, said nicely.  Love it when squads take credit for taking a base, when its MY Lancaster they've asked for help from.  I won't name squads since I dont want a flamefest, but just the other day, I leveled a base, they strafed the acks and brought in a goon.  They >loudly< took credit for it on Channel 2 and I just shook my head.  Yup, tackiness is in abundance lately   :)

Sorry if this happened to be our squad. Often one or more memembers say something on channel referencing a base capture to our squad. Often times I do realize there are others who have helped at the base. I am sure none of them mean to offend or minimize others help. I for one appreciate others who participate in team effort of taking a base. Maybe I will spread word around to squadies to be more thoughtful of countryman.

Most of these actions could be eliminated by banning the FDPs from the game.  The time has come for the community to stop accepting their blind refusal to play the game as expected.  I say we deport all of them to PR to live with Animal's dad.

To be honest, I believe this is all Creamo's fault.

I believe Mason is the one that turns tracers off in his M3, not me.

Cat Juggling, heh, Steve Martin is the man. I must leave you with some of "Cruel Shoes", maybe the greatest book ever written.

The Day the Dopes Came Over

I was sitting at home, peeking through the blinds at my neighbor's wife, minding my own business, when my doorbell rang. "Who's there?" I shouted. "We don't know," came the reply. I immediately knew the dopes had come over.

I opened the door and invited them in. I was happy to have company even if they were a bunch of dopes.

"Well, what brings you over this way?" I queried.

"Yup."

"Yup."

"Yup."

"Yup." they said.

"Would you like some coffee?" I asked.

"Gol," said one dope, "how long have we been here?"

"About two minutes."

"Gol, we should have left hours ago!" And they packed up some of my things and lumbered out.

"Goodbye Dopes!" I shouted.

They turned to me and shouted back, "Goodbye, you big diddlyin 'idiot!"

The Smokers

He lit the cigarette and smoked it down to the filter in one breath. He silently thanked the Winston Company for being thoughtful enough about his health to include a filter to protect him. So he lit up another. This time he didn't exhale the squeaky-clean filtered smoke, but just let it nestle in his lungs, filling his body with that good menthol flavor. Some more smokers knocked on his door and they came in and all started smoking with him.

"How wonderful it is that we're all smoking," he thought.

Everyone smoked and smoked and after they smoked they all talked about smoking and how nice it was that they were all smokers and then they smoked some more.

Smoke, smoke, smoke. They all sang "Smoke That Cigarette" and "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes." Then the smokers smoked one more cigarette and left him alone in his easy chair, about to relax and enjoy a nice quiet smoke. And then his lips fell off.

She Had The Jugs

Yes, she was witty; she was intelligent. She was born of high station. She spoke and walked proudly. She was the kind who displayed nobility, who showed style and class. But above all, she had the jugs.

Many people called her by her last name; some closer friends had a confidence with her and shared the intimacy of her first name. But to me, she was always "Lady jugs a-plenty."

It is true. She was clever and she was charming, but above all, she had the jugs.

---------------------------------

Truely outstanding work I must say.  :)

I happened to find out the hard way that friendly fire could kill troops.  Alongtime ago our squad took down a field and I ditched to grab a bus.  As soon as I spawned I saw another 'non-squad' player with an M3 in front about d1.0 or so the race was on! He gets to the base and starts unloading, swagger and the rest of the squad are already hollerin' wtg!  Still wishing it was a squad capture I innocently popped of a few rounds towards the other M3 not knowing of the consequences.  Next thing we know he's on country channel asking where 2 of his troopers went and why he didn't get the capture.  Over RW swagger and I came to the same conclusion almost immediately friendly fire could kill troops! we busted out laughing so hard we couldn't stop but it was now a squad capture  :)

I do feel pretty bad about the incident but didn't have the heart to tell the guy what happend.  Ever since then when I see troops on the field I stop shooting fearing I may hit one.

Strider...One thing to keep in mind is that nine times out of ten any amount of escort you have for a goon will be useless against one determined fighter.  For that reason, many fighters don't even think of escorting the goon pilots, as they'd probably be more useful getting to the base and supressing any upping fighters and/or ack.   :)

SOB:

I agree, its tough but not impossible to keep a gooney alive. I submit though, that its much easier to simply leave a gooney hi and dry to get in on a vulch fest.
Because of this I have seen on many nights the country I fly for lose their hard work by doing this; "get the kills" prevails, and the base never gets captured, folks get frustrated and move on, and the nme laughs it off and slaps themselves on the back.
To guard a gooney means to pay attention and coordinate, fiters hi and fiters low, some out ahead and out to either side sweeping ahead. Instead, I see many (as usual) chasing one lone nme fiter running for his life, and 1 lone fiter sneaks in and shoots down the gooney. Last night I saw one Kinigit about 500 yds off the tail of the gooney he was guarding, The gooney died but, the guy right behind him did the best he could; there were 4 or 5 fiters going after his gooney and he got one or two of them. My point is, he stayed close and committed to trying the capture; his countrymen screwed up by not sending more in to the capture.

I didn't say you were the one shooting the troops... I said it was your fault.

If I recall correctly, Mason's troop shooting exploits were usually an attempt to avoid hearing you whine like a little girl on Roger Wilco as you aproached the field in a goon.  At least... that's how the story goes.
