Had a Spit XIV HO my 110G-2 (4 20mm, 2 30mm, all in the nose). Naturally, he lost.
Before I had Nikis and La5 try it. I never accept HO except when I am in 110 - if a late war plane is co E with me, this is my only choice.
But it puzzles me why do THEY think it is their best option ???

Thinking of something else actually takes brains.
I'd figure it'd be actually easier to fight smarter people in Spitfires than dumb people. When both people are smart, they share the same logic, but when one person is dumb, two people have totally different logic dictating their flight patterns.
You go into this certain move, think to yourself "hmm.. he won't possibly try a HO.. it's ridiculous at this situation.. he might get me but he'd lose too much speed to survive the next fight. A smart guy won't do that...." and shortly after, to your own dismay, he does exactly what you thought he'd not attempt.
They attempt HOs, they spray at 700 yards, they follow vertical zooms ... when you thought they'd not HO, they'd figure it waste of ammo and stop spraying, or think they will not follow to a totally stupid zoom up when other enemies are around.
In the end, as you bail, and see that guy blowing up immediately after you've bailed, you wonder "what's the point of learning to fly when [flying to win AND survive] is not the purpose to those guys at all?" Ofcourse, thinking he won't HO and getting a surprise HO hit, thinking he won't spray and getting damaged from a sprayed Hizooka, or thinking he won't dare follow the zoom and ending up getting sniped by the Hizooka at the top of the climb.. is all your own mistake. But at least some part of those decisions were logical according to the rules of SA and ACM we know. We think everyone else would also follow that - we think people will not attempt a suicidal move, since air combat is about surviving the fight as a winner.
In the end, the 'gameyness' that defies logic happens to get you everytime ;)
The fact that we don't really die dictates a lot on how we fly. Try flying at H2H arenas, and you'll notice the people there also fly in a totally different manner when settings are all different from default conditions.
